Actually this is great advice. Never been a better time to buy new from an AD. Never been a better time to buy used from the grey market. Prices are down and availability is up. So if you ain’t buying now you never will. Also hold your stock and keep your powder dry. Sit out the drought. Enjoy your collection.
It will be better in the next months.
This market will crash as most market do after a bubble, there are countless Rolex on the market, prices will come back to be lower tham AD prices in the coming 5 years…the number of Rolex available these says is just crazy…So, no, this is not the best time to buy…this is a dead end investment…
@@mscformeditation investment. Who said anything about making money? My point was to buy a watch you’ll keep. The ‘investment’ guys have all run away. There’s enthusiasts who buy to wear and scalpers in it for a buck.

When they’re making over a million watches a year I’m surprised it took this long.

Actual enthusiasts should be happy about the crash. It means we can get the watches we want for cheaper. I didn’t lose. I sold at the peak. I cashed out $13.5-14k for my 5 digit Pepsi and my gen 1 JC. I thought the prices were getting absurd and I sold.
I remember telling everyone at the time that my Pepsi was a $4k watch that was overinflated beyond belief. I put my money where my mouth was and sold it.
I bought a Cookie Monster and a Celebration during this down market. In the hyped up market I couldn’t have gotten either.
Also, the market isn’t even close to the pre-hype times. Anyone who has been in the hobby long enough knows that pretty much every watch aside from the Daytona was selling under retail until about 2017. I still remember someone paying 4k over list for a Daytona and people on the Rolexforums ridiculing that person.
Yeah, we are way down from the panda Daytona selling for 50k but still we are far off a used Sub selling 2k under retail.
A white face Daytona is a very unimpressive watch in person.
I thought the same about my pre ceramic so I sold it. I have a better feeling for the ceramic panda which I enjoy much more. It’s one of those IYKYK watches.
Can't get desired watches from an AD. I buy to wear them. Got a new Hulk when it came out for 20% under retail. From an AD. Got a new Bluesy from a great grey seller for 35% off retail. Those days are gone. Sadly. Live to by a new Air King and 41 Celebration. Can't. Sucks.
The market is correcting itself and will continue to go down. Bad if you're buying watches to flip or because of the perceived value, good for Watch lovers that appreciate the timepiece and can now get one for a reasonable price and/or at an AD.
The social media influencers that made flipping shows caused the hype. Now those shows are boring and the hype bubble is bursting. The Rolex brand will become what it once was, just a good watch to wear
20-21 bubble was just ridiculous. ADs still won’t sell even 126234 with jubilee bracelet with blue/green/wimbledon dials. Still tough to get in demand models at ADs.
when you aren't worried about making a profit on a watch, things become a lot more enjoyable.

People who buy a Rolex to keep in a box as an “investment” is like a car collector who buys a beautiful car only to leave it sitting. Wear your watch. Drive your car. This is a great time for a “regular” person to get a Rolex.
The tide is finally turning for us regular persons, soon we could buy a Rolex just walking into an AD
Secondary prices are still high except for 5 digit explorers. Not much value out there.

I gave up on buying Rolex a while ago, no dealer would sell me one. Honestly I'm grateful they wouldn't, I found that silly material things like a watch were completely superfluous to my happiness. I took that money and invested it instead.

I love the Rolex Explorer 40. It's a great watch. It's a borderline stupid purchase at $7800 (USD) retail. It's insane at above retail prices without paperwork. I can afford $10K for a watch but the Explorer looks much less nice when compared to the competition in the >$10K range.
A Rolex Explorer on the grey market costs 2 times the price of an Omega Aqua Terra on the grey market. Objectively, the Rolex is not twice as good, in fact, I’m not even sure if it’s at all better. The only way it can be seen as better is if you need to sell it later, as it will likely retain its value better.
Well some of us who didn’t intend to flip are getting depreciation from retail. The 2024 Sea Dweller I bought for 13,275 retail at AD down to 12,278 used since March. I agree with you I will just wear it to enjoy it. What was the name of a reasonable insurer?
Not a constant stream of buyers for a Daytona used, it’s still got a lot of room to drop and you buy retail. Drop Drop Drop Dropping and DROPPING some more.

I was just in an AD a week ago in Princeton, NJ and they were totally wiped out still. I don't know if it's fair to say it's a good time to buy from an AD when they have no inventory lol.
All I want is a 36mm OP rhodium dial and nobody has one in stock.
Patience grasshopper. Visit occasionally and form a relationship. Or just buy it second hand and be done with it. Great time to do that now.

i think prices are still way too high. not too many years ago dealers were offering to pay around 4,500 for a rolex gmt. all these for profit minor league watch channels will be gone within the next 5-10 years. middle class people should not spend thousands on luxury watches. some of you are delusional with your watch collection. i just see people who are status symbol driven and will move on to another hyped toy next.

Rolex AD's are now welcoming customers back? That's quite something but I know at least one person who won't be walking into their store.
I recently bought a 63g Tiffany rose gold bracelet from ebay with authenticity for £3550, Tiffany retail £11300. I still think watches are not a bad long term investment.
Rolex crash? Or just return to normality. Ads are now friendly again, two tone or solid gold watches are immediately available. Secondary prices for all but Daytona and Gmt2 models are similar to list. Personally, happy days. Just picked up my 5 digit sub at a reasonable price, thousands cheaper than just 12 months ago. ( I dare say in a further 12 months maybe cheaper still, but if you find a good example that you plan to keep, kinda doesn't matter)

What crash ? Its just the watch market returning to sane levels, that existed before covid.
The desirable Rolex Sports models, are still impossible to obtain from your AD, and even if the prices have fallen, the majority are still trading well above retail, on the Grey market.
So what crash ?

That whole thing about Rolex making 1M watches a year, yeah sure. Someone broke this down: 200k are Tudor. Half of the 800k are Ladies models. 65% are non-sport models. 140k men’s watches left. 70k are precious metal and 70k Professional models in steel. 8 lines in 34 variations. US gets half of global inventory, so 35k men’s sport models. Or 10 a month.
Rolex has always been a store of value. If you’re broke, passing through Vegas, and looking to play some Black Jack, you can roll into any pawn shop and trade said Rolex for “some” money. Maybe you’re more likely to find yourself in a Tijuana jail. Well said Rolex will be helpful there too.

When did the economy ever feel certain? He is very confused. I wish he would just go back to mowing grass or whatever.
All boats rise and fall together, before the hype it was normal for many brands to have resale values around 50%, thus usually a 30% discount at retail is what I start with at the ADs and I have purchased many watches with that discount. So, if you’re selling to a reseller, then 30%-40% of retail makes sense. This is nothing new and anyone that remembers those days (really only about 10 years ago) will look at the market today will be astonished at the growth so it really depends on what kind of picture you want to paint, its doom and gloom if you start at the peak but you zoom out then it’s has still grown tremendously. To be fair, people who got screwed over by the decline would likely fail in other businesses too because they lack basic business acumen without any regard to inventory and risk management. Money came easy, so they jumped on and lost their shirts. Now only the truly legit folks remain so I am also glad this has cleaned house.

Perfect time to walk into the AD with that watch. Many of them are Rolex certified service providers.
I just bought a Rolex Milgauss from a fellow in Chicago, he did not want to wear it in Chicago. money was transferred and I met him in person. Much easier than doing the AD Dance. I am sure Rolex is a nightmare of a giant company to deal with for the AD.

Marc, I like your advices. Wear your watches! There are loads of mint safe queen Rolex watches out there people have squirreled away for "Investment". Look for people who missed the hype peak this last time to start selling and cashing out as soon as prices start increasing again.
