Oh... my ... god... When I opened this video I was so skeptical, I though "Pfff, come on, Chardash on contrabass? That's impossible! you gotta have fingers of titanium to do it". I've never been so wrong! And the second part! ON ONE STRING! I bet Paganini himself would applaud you - at least his violin was not 30 kg heavy! Lev, you are a true master. Thank you!
Vladimir Kornev Thank you Vladimir. Спасибо! I'm not the only one who is playing this piece on the double bass. There are other beautiful recordings of this music made by Roman Patkolo, Lauren Pierce and others. And you don’t need “to have a titanium fingers” to play this. Now there are light weight metal strings allowing to develop fast playing technique on the double bass.
Lev I wish I was kidding when I tell you I’ve been watching this video since 2018!! I can’t get enough of it, you are a true master! A salute from this Violinist and Pianist!!
Oh man, I played bass in high school (was gonna continue in college but I had back surgery), and the number of people who don't realize just how versatile a bass is blew ( and continues to blow) my mind. This is incredible. Once I get a steady job I might join an orchestra again, this has totally rekindled my desire to play!
@@TothTimea32 Ever heard of rubato? Ever heard of playing with feeling? Ever heard that artists have their own interpretations? Did you bother listening to the full piece? Ever heard that you're an absolute dumbass?
Unbelievable! Only 75k views? It should be in the millions. But don't worry sir, people just haven't found you yet. And when they do, you would be regarded as the master because you sir are amazing!
I really don't see why someone would mark this as fake, I mean, why would he go out of his way to learn the fingerlings for such a hard piece and play them out on camera and then just not make real sound? C'mon now, that just doesn't make sense, it's a genuine video that took effort to make, don't throw out someone's hard work like that.
he filmed it. and recorded it two different times. what you're seeing is a video, with a seperate audio track dubbed. The reason is simply audio quality.
Greg Prymicz I'm glad that there are people like you, who understand that for a musician the main priority is the quality of the sound recording and to create possible great piece of music, but not an attempt to impress anyone.
Lev Weksler you did an outstanding job and i now have something to accomplish. I want to be just as good as you. I look ip to you. Right now i would say i am a good bass player but still need to improve on so much more. I am about to become a college freshman and i would love to get better throughout the years
Oh man that is some beautiful music he is playing. Wow I love how it sounds so smooth and so good. I like that it has some type of deep sound. It's so beautiful
I accidentally came across this video you for me now that after 41 years of playing electric fretless Bass I am really dedicating myself to my upright bass playing you have become a Mentor I will make it my business to follow you thank you
Charles Lambiase Thank you Charles! You'll be one of the first to whom I will send (as a gift) my arrangements with fingering indicated and some explanations of the technical features of my execution methods.
I've just listened to this track for the umpteenth time. I doubt that many bassists could play Czardas at this pace and on a single string without ending up in a fracture ward. Lev Weksler is a stunning musician and a very entertaining one. His runs alone are jaw-dropping and his passion and musical depth are a rare experience. It's nice that his twin brother helps out with the right hand! It would be almost scary to hear Lev team up with Vittorio Monti; what a double act. Thank you, Maestro.
It seems like the recording and the camera are off. Try clapping, then when editing the video, just like up the peaks of the two channels (camera microphone and proper microphone) It will help make it line up more I guess if that's how you would like to call it.
The thing is that he did two different recordings of this piece however when the audio and live recording is actually played without the edits the coordination between the two audios would be out of sync because the one you see in the video is Lev doing a second recording of the Czardas, which is why it was edited to make sure to sync both recordings together. I mean there could have been a better job in editing it, but he gave it a lot of effort to do, and I respect him for that
This is truly astounding. I have just found your page and it really makes me excited and uplifted to want to continue double bass. This is not only the best rendition of the piece, but an outstanding reminder of hard work and dedication with a musical instrument can get you.
+Nikolaj Petronijevic Thank you very much. I am glad that I can be an inspiration to you and keep you motivated and on the right track, never stop playing:)
I am a violinist, and people always say the violin is hard to master, but looking at this makes me think the double bass is much harder to master. I mean look at the aglity you must have to shift that quickly, and I have tried to play one and the strength you must have just to hold down on a string without it hurting and giving you calluses, is truly remarkable.
Sir Lev Weksler, you're such a brilliant musician. I loved this so much! I just subscribed! I love double bass a lot and I hope to at least get to play one someday, even if only a little. Thank you for posting this video! I hope you're in good health and still playing. Take care!
I’ve attempted those harmonics and yeesh they’re hard to get right you have to have amazing skill to play them properly but he’s just casually speeding on through this man is amazinh
Watch from 0:50 either this video is just poorly edited or it is fake. I play the double bass and guitar and this sounds very strange. The tones you hear just instantly cut off after he releases the string. That doesn't work like that. The string still swings a bit and he didn't even mute his strings so... And at 0:50 you obviously see that something is off. As I said, either the editing or its fake.
He recorders the video after making the audio recording. So there is your answer. Stop saying that it's fake, please For professional musician is an injury I'm a musician too.
@@xxLukaMegurimneXxx Then tell me why the sound of his instrument changed mid-piece (1:53)? That normally doesn't happen. And also you obviously hear how some tones were cut off. Not damped. Cut off. As I said, I am not quite sure if it really is faked or just poorly edited.
@@xxLukaMegurimneXxx And also, as a very popular person once said, facts don't care about your feelings. If it's fake, it's fake. If it's poorly edited, then it's poorly edited. You can't say that you don't hear the unnatural dampings and the sound.
This guy is quite confusing, the audio sounds fake, but at the same time he is also playing the notes. Why would you play it only to edit it and put MIDI audio over it? I don't know.
I can explain since I once made a video and had this same issue, it is because the sound was pre-recorded and then he tried to play along with the track to match the recording. He had to do that since he recorded himself twice. So it is a matter of poor editing and filming skills, but he is definitely playing correctly.
Well, I am a violinist, not a bassist or cellist, but I can certainly see that your bowing technique is very real and very fluid. Vibrato, also real, and very nice technique as well as all the fingering and shifting. So, you have put in your hours and got your reward, a combination of admiration from the sane and bitter jealousy from the usual internet "I need to get a life brigade." You may have, for all I know, patched some of this together using technology. Anyone who doubts that this happens in classical music recording should watch the movie Pianomania and pay particular attention to the recording of the Bach Art of Fugue. The fact that some people seem to feel that nobody should be allowed to play or record classical music if they are not Leonid Kogin or Rostropovich or Arthur Rubinstein is just sort of pathetic. You can guess how far they got with their instrument, so they quit and live vicariously through the top of the top musicians and invest their time in bitter commentary rather than practice. Anyone who puts in huge love and effort and achieves a high level of musicianship is the winner, they get the thrill of felling the music go through them instead of being a mere listener. Bravo!
I stitch together multiple takes of sessions recordings for the perfect result. Unless it's a live concert, it's all about the end result imo. I'd be surprised if Lev had to do much if any cutting from multiple takes, though. He's quite something.
+Lev Weksler as long as the violists don't poke fun. i have heard the true range of sounds fom a double bass-from noise to beauty, and i say, thank you, good sir. have you released any albums to date?

Cameron Conley You are a very talented and refined musical critic, but, hopefully, your future critical research is different. Here is a little tip: This piece of music was written for violin and piano, but I, as an exception, play both parts on double bass using my own arrangement. I created this arrangement through trial and error at the audio recording session itself, by experimenting numerous times, recording and re-recording different parts of music, so this is not a "Live performance” in a musical competition, and I don't need to cover any “cuts and editing”. The professionals do it better, but I don't care.

Paganini also had a disease that made his tendons looser than average, which contributes to how fast one could play.
