  • There are many videos out there on the Bissell. You may have a bad pump, clogged hoses or a clogged heater. I checked for all of those and this turned out to be my problem.

This works! Thanks. I made the mistake of using too hot of water (can't be over 140 degrees oops from an instant hot water faucet was around 190) and the tank plastic softened while on a counter mixing the water/detergent! I didn't realize the valve at bottom of tank had actually moved-as it was one of the 3 points of contact with the counter. The 1/8" inch or so extra from a screw allowed the pump to get water to spray again. I realize that I used water that was too hot, but also Bissell cmon, why in the world would you use plastic that got soft with hot water in a HOT WATER TANK? I used to use same temp water in it and it was a hard plastic that was not temperature sensitive. Bad manufacturing choice.

My Bissell is over 10 years old, and I had many problems, I changed the belts, cleaned out the water heater (filthy) and it would still not spray. I was ready to toss it. I put the screw in and voila - it now works! Thank you for the tip!

Dude, you rock! With 2 dogs, 3 cats, and 3 teens, I need my noisy little Bissel. I used a #8 X 1/2" pan head self tapping screw, but an #8-32 X 1/2" screw with either a flat, pan, or round head screw would work just as well.
Bissel should buy commercial time on your video. They've made millions selling these machines. Time for them to fire their engineers and pay you!

Brilliant. When Bissell told me that there were no spares available for model 7901-J I almost gave up, but thanks to your video and another couple on UA-cam, I have got it working. I spent a lot of time looking at the pump end of the Bissell but then realised that if the accessory hose is pumping the problem must lie at the handle end - either the fluid switch or a blocked heater. My problem was the heater which I cleaned. Then it only pumped for a second or so and stopped. You have pointed me to the solution. Thank you Cecil. Thank you UA-cam!

I unscrewed one of the screws at the portable spray handle to see if that would work. It was the perfect size. Thanks Mr. Argue. You saved me a lot of travel time to find someone who would work on a Bissell and money for a repair! I had already ordered and replaced the cap and hose to the clean water tank and it worked about twice and then back to no spray.

Sir you are absolutely a god send. I like you did everything trying to fix mine. I was searching for every video I could find and came up on yours. With it being a short video I thought it would be like the rest with no results. However, I took your suggestion and tried it and it works. I am so excited that I can clean my floors again. I was just about to give up. Thank you so much for sharing this video. You have not only saved me money but lots of time because I was about to start taking my lines apart cause I thought there had to be a clog. All the other videos out there are just repeats of the same stuff you’ve already tried. Who would have thought that the tank wasn’t getting enough pressure on that valve to let the water out. Thanks so much again for this video and helping me to save my money with a 15 cent fix. Hope you have a blessed day.

We have the Bissell Lift Off Deep Cleaner
Same sort of problem over the years, it would spray and then no spray, and now thanks to such a minor discrepancy which who would believe it would be that simple. I knew it had to be a water suction problem down the line as per say with the pump, but who would think it was the water outlet valve on the water tank.
    Keep up the good work.
    Thank you

Cecil you are still saving machines in 2024! Hauled the proclean out of the garage and it wouldnt spray even though it had been used three months before. Much cursing and cleaning of hoses later (and endless youtube videos) I tried one more search, stumbled on this and ten seconds later everything aok - I had looked at the tank valve and took it off to see if it was sticking, but didnt consider it was the 'plunger' not doing its job. Another great tip is in the comments - use one of the screws from the handle first as I found it to be the perfect size and you can just replace that one later. I'll assume you are American because of the machine in the video so if true you probably have some of the same genetic material that got Apollo 13 safely back. Heartfelt thanks from the UK.

  • @Jimbo171000
    @Jimbo171000 6 років тому +1

I had same problem that you had and the screw trick worked!
I also had another problem which was at first it had no suction but one thing I noticed when I took the cover of the Bissell was the clear plastic hoses had hard ends on them where you push them on the fittings. I took a knife and cut off about 1/4" off the end of each hose and pushed them back on and that fixed the suction problem.
The pump is not very big so if the hose ends are old and hard they will suck in air instead of water. Once you have cut the end off all the hoses even the black rubber ones simply pour a little water in the hole under the tank and turn the unit on and the water got sucked right and it started spraying water out again while it was on my work bench.
The next problem I found was that once I installed the full water tank it was again would not spray water.
Since I already had it spraying water without the tank in place by just pouring a little water into the hole under the tank that is when I realized I needed to install that small screw into the little hole to life the float value on the bottom of the water tank higher and it started spraying again.
You will have to try adjusting that little screw because if the screw is sticking out to far it is holding open the float value on the bottom of the water tank and you will see a puddle of water under the Bessell Carpet Cleaner.
Hope this help out. These Bissell are prone to these types of problems but they are also easy to fix.
    Jim

WOW! This worked! I found a screw maybe an inch long with a rounded head that I just dropped in-no need to screw it in. That tiny little bit of extra height did the trick. Thank you! Now I need to check your other videos to see what else I can fix.

Thank you so much for your tip. I inserted a screw and it immediately fixed my problem. I have tried several repair shops where I live and none of them could fix it so thank you again.

I AM SO THANKFUL! I walked over to my machine, poured a cup of water in, and said "I'll be damned." Sure enough. You're AWESOME.

I narrowed down our problem to that area of the tank too. The gasket has this funny kink in it and when I inspected the bottom of tank seat I noticed that the plastic molding that surrounds the part you inserted the screw in was actually raised up in this buckled plastic arch that didn't let the tank sit all the way in the seat. I was going to study how to lower that buckled plastic or even to shim the part you put a screw in to raise the height, but if I can just use a screw to bring things closer together then that's a great solution!

OMG!! I've spent countless hours watching videos, reading manuals and taking the unit apart a dozen times and then I saw your video. You my friend are a freaking genius. Spent a few minutes finding the right size screw but after 5 minutes it was working perfectly. THANK YOU!!!!

Fine job with the help. I tried everything. I took the whole damn thing apart, only to find a screw in the tank. Made all the difference. Thanks you.

It worked!! I took the whole thing a part put it back together. Didn't work, stuck it in the closet and forgot about it. Then I pulled it out again and saw your video! It was immediate. I didn't have a small enough screw so I used an eye hook. Thank you so much!!
