- I learned this several hundred year-old Appalachian song when I was 12 years old. It speaks of the story of early European immigrants coming to the United States.
paypal.me/saya... if you would like to support my music :) Thank you!
This is my favorite song and I have spent close to 15 years searching for someone to sing it just like my mawmaw.... you are that person. ❤
Hello Tiffany, Wow, thank you so much for your message, it made me tear up. It’s the reason I sing, for it to find people like you. Where was your mawmaw from? Much love❤️
I never tire hearing this ballad.
Glad to hear you come back to listen :)
my granny used to sing this to me every night. miss her so much
Wow, really? That’s so beautiful. Where was she from? Thank you for sharing.
@@SayaNovinger born and raised in cold mountain NC. Thank you for posting this.
That’s so amazing!! I really appreciate that history. I try to honor it in my music. You’re so welcome. Are there other songs she sang that you remember that I could possibly sing?
@@SayaNovinger your voice would go along beautifully with wish my baby was born
@@Chrismeadefbi I'll definitely check it out. Thank you so much!
Dear Saya, Thank you for sharing your beautiful singing and your story. I too, hail from those who brave enough to become strangers in a strange land. Tell your story, sing your song. This broken world needs your voice!
Thank you for taking the time to write me this message. I come back to it every now and then. It makes me very happy! I hope you are well!
Beautifully sung. This is one of the songs brought with the Scots and irish who came to the Appalachians but it goes way back in time.
Thank you so much. Yes I love the historical songs 🩷
It's English. Still sung in the English tradition.
Knocked my socks off! What a voice.
Thank you Michelle :)
My T FINE young lady. My grandpa used to sing this song, haven't heard it since he passed. You just brought back a fine memory,a smile and a tear to an old mountain boy's eye. Thank you and God bless you.
Thank you for sharing, so beautiful. Iris Dement also did a beautiful version of this in The Song Catcher.
Thank you very much Brent! :)
Just beautiful. I came here via Bob Dylan's version. Your singing reminds me of Ishbell MacAskill. Also Hamlet Gonashvilli. Something about the silence it seems to come out of and the silence it leaves me with when it ends. Like a deep rest in the heart.
Perfect. It brought tears to my eyes.
Thank you Harry :)
Thank you Saya
My pleasure!
I felt my soul shiver. Thank you for this...

Awe my, I felt this down in my bones! Hoooweee! Your a beautiful soul... thank you
Thank you Joseph! That makes me happy to hear! :)
I wish you'd upload more like this. Accapella covers of old Irish, Native American, and Yankee American ballads, hymns or other tunes. You seem to understand the lost art of capturing in song the old American Hurt.
Hi there. Thank you for this comment. I love how you said that. I do feel it in my bones… I love this country and all the stories it has… many that I want to keep alive, keep us from forgetting, the pain that a lot of us came from.. and still feel. It reminds us where we come from. I am working on building a small home studio at the moment, and I want to record more of those songs. What song recommendations do you have? :) thanks again.
@@SayaNovinger I'll gradually make a list and add to it over time! There's a lot of good ones I think you would do great justice:
•American Tune (Paul Simon)
•Rye Whiskey/My Horses Ain't Hungry
•Across the Western Ocean
•The Parting Glass
•Renee And Georgette Magritte With Their Dog After The War
Thank you so much! I will look into these songs. please message me on instagram so we can chat properly on there :) @@postproductions

She looks good for being over 168 years old
Hahaha!
Beautiful in both song and the words. Your statement is true and we should not forget that we all are immigrants to this world, sharing it with those before us, those with us now, and our dear ones who have yet to come and need it most.
Thank you so much
Your voice is amazing
Thank you 🙏🏻
Wow xx
Thank you❤️
Great voice there Saya (and amazing bodhràn skills too), please do a fan a favour and sing a Luke Kelly song...I will love you forever if you do.
Hello from Missouri, ol Luke is my all time favorite, glad to others still recommending his songs, song for Ireland by this gal with her voice would be breathtaking
Hi Jonny, I still want to do a Luke Kelly song. Which ones would you recommend? :) Hope you're well!
@@joekenny335 Song for Ireland? I'll look into it. Any others? :) Thank you for the kind comments. I appreciate it a lot!
@@SayaNovinger the night visiting song would have to be another of my favorites!!
@@SayaNovinger Hi Saya, thanks for commenting. Tough choice, as there are so many to choose from! But I'd have to recommend 'Night visiting song' or maybe 'Raglan Road'. It's your choice though so go with whatever you feel passionate about. Hope you're doing well also, take care ✌️
You could shame a nightingale
Haha thank you Zach! That warms my heart. I hope you're doing great! :)

Very good
🪟💓hehe thank you
How old is this song? 1849 was the gold rush to out west United States then
Hello there! I did some research and some ethnomusicologists date this song to the 1600’s. The singers probably just changed the year to whatever year it was 😊That’s the story I’ve heard.
