Holy cow! I just commented on her "Poor Wayfairing Stranger" video, and how I couldn't imagine anything more beautiful. But literally minutes later, I have found something even better. This song has been done by the greatest--Iris Dement, Elizabeth LaPrelle, both stunning stars of American music. But I have to say, they have both just been surpassed by Rhiannon Giddens' spectacular voice. Thanks to you, beautiful lady! (PS, I am the mixed race daughter of a poor Irish-american man and a Filipino refugee mother. And I consider this incredible music to be just as much my legacy as that of any other American. Thank you again for bringing it to me with the voice of an angel!!)
do yourself a favor, if you are just finding out about Rhiannon Giddens: listen/watch everything there is on youtube that has her in it, inc Carolina chocolate drops
@@jamorains I hate it when people say “we’re a nation of immigrants” to justify the mass migration of foreigners that don’t respect American values. The founding stock of our country weren’t immigrants, they were settlers who came by royal charter and established a country rather than immigrating to one that already exists. I would love to hear one of these people that criticize our history say that Turkey should give Constantinople back to Greece. After all, the Ottomans sacked the city only a few decades before after Columbus sailed the ocean blue. You’ll never hear such a thing out of there mouths.
@@landocalrissian5180 Exactly. These people don't seem to understand that America is not the "New World" anymore. We are a sovereign nation with actual borders and limits now, and one which already has the 3rd largest population in the world.
@@jamorains They understand this. We all know leftists wouldn’t support open borders if immigrants voted Republican, that wouldn’t be politically expedient.
You are extraordinary Rhiannon... god bless you

Indeed ...leaving a country -Ireland? - in 1849 was probably famine induced.
She is from another world! ❤❤❤
Heard this song MANY times, but not this powerfully sung!! wow
Thanks for sharing this. I've loved her voice since I first heard the Carolina Chocolate Drops.
I would like to see this gifted artist perform this song at the next Presidential Inauguration if if great our democracy is still standing after 2024.
I don't she will be singing at Trump"s inauguration
Absolutely beautiful
Watching in 2023 from Oak Cliff, TX ❤

Magnificent.
Thank you for sharing this poignant song that echos from the past to the present.
Tears came to my eyes before the end of the first phrase.
tears...
Awesome
Goddess.
Sweet Jesus!
Sung as only Rhiannon Giddens can sing it.
Wow love this song and was expecting so much more, didn’t like her voice and especially interpretation.
This haunting beautiful song trancents present day politics.
And should not be used for that.
Amen
Shitlibs can't stop themselves.
to support mass migration now is idiotic, but i still dig her music...
What does this have to do with politics?
@@landocalrissian5180 idk, you would have to ask Rihannon that as she is the one making political statements here..
