I love this scene in Ghost in the Shell, it’s probably my favorite piece of art ever. Something about the silhouette of the major juxtaposed with the city skyline just gets me every time I see it. I guess the reason it spoke to me so subconsciously on the first watch is that I feel like one of the messages I got out of the movie was individualism vs. collectivism with the typical cyberpunk setting and atmosphere and the story of course but most of all because of our protagonist‘s struggles. The major tries to find her true self in a vast world full of technology where you can feel like you lose yourself in so completely that you lose touch with reality, like that one guy in the film that thought he had wife and kids, but in reality was just a trashtruck driver. It‘s deeply touching to me because this exact frame in the film is where I want to be: In a vast world full of life trying to find my true self. Thanks to the uploader for the great music choice btw!
@@Matt-so8uj That’s honestly great to hear, what is your favorite scene? I’d really like to know because imo a piece of fiction is only then really great if it creates discussion and different opinions.
@@indigoarchive8296 yeah he's a "plunderer" basically takes music and repackages songs from different artists and puts them under 1 "album" I stopped listening to them once I figured it out
@@Fhots_Shired Yeah it's true but for example (0:00) ヘイズバズ is actually slowed version of Martini Royale. So sometimes artist like this change a little bit those songs and give them second life or just make alternative versions. Both are beautiful. But Macro Blank disappointed me in every possible way.
A lot of cyberpunk media likes to use synthwave or other synth-heavy instrumentation in its soundtracks. While that fits sonically and thematically, I love the alternative that vaporwave/barberbeats offers. Warped, slowed jazz/R&B/pop hits of yesteryear, melted over time like cheap plastic left in a hot car. It fits the aesthetic; that of people, isolated from time and humanity, desperately trying to kludge together some semblance of self and meaning from the sounds of a long-dead man crooning. One of the core tenets of cyberpunk is dehumanization in a metaphorical, as well as physical, sense. In a world where everything up to and including your very flesh is a commodity, where years scream past like moments, where the Modern Man is hardly a man at all and anything less is subhuman... one can imagine that at the end of a 70-hour workweek in the office farms, some quiet time in the rental pod where Whitney Houston lulls on about love long lost at x0.75 speed would sound heavenly, compared to the constant halogen hum.
Haircuts for men makes me feel like I'm in a dystopian world going about my daily miserable life as a wage slave that will be nothing more than that. It inspires me to write a book tbh
