I’ve had 4 kids naturally currently pregnant with baby #5. I had HORRIFIC back labor and labor lasted 24-32hrs with EVERY one! Guess what…. I was forced to lie in my back. They refused to let me get up , walk around, etc. not this time!! I’m going with a new hospital and ready to do it differently! Thank you!
Jeeze, I can't imagine going through that. I just recently had my third a little over a month ago in the standing position over the bed with my husband there to catch. The first was at a water birth center where I had all the freedom and support from the midwives. Second one, I was hunched over in the backseat of the truck on my knees and we were on the way to that same birth center, but husband had to catch her in the parking lot of a Mexican restaurant lol. 14 hours for first and about 3 for the last two. Good luck on your 5th!
I had horrible back labor with my first. A TENS unit can be used to help with back labor! I have one on hand to use with my second. 37 weeks currently!
@@nicolepere2056 side lying is the best position for preventing tearing. I would definitely try it and if you are unmedicated it also helps to stop pushing when you feel the ring of fire to let things stretch a little. Even with an epidural your OB should be able to guide you and tell you when to slow down your pushing. You got this! ❤
How did you know i was about to be induced today? 😂 Thank you for this. Now i know all my options and can go into the hospital saying no i want this instead of laying on my back. Thank you!! You've helped me so much prepare for this labor and delivery. I appreciate all your videos. ❤❤
@@dacia6247 Baby and I are doing well now. I was doing well with the induction until they popped my water. Well it was the baby that started doing badly then. He started having a lower heart rate. So I had an emergency C-section. My OB got him out in 3 minutes. My doctor thought the umbilical cord was around his throat, but it really was that the placenta detached and was black in one area.
I labored in all of these positions (except laying on my back cause it was NOT comfortable) and pushed and birthed on all 4’s in the tub. Best birth and it was AMAZING!
My labor was horrible. My water broke, first contractions 14 hours later. Then I was in early labor for maybe 3-4 hours, forced to push for about 6 hours I would guess, forced to stop pushing, then active labor for over 12 hours, and then transition again for 6-9ish hours and then pushed from around 11pm to 2:34am. Labor was 31 hours and since my water broke 45 hours. Pushed on my back!! 😬
Thanks for the video! Due next week and thought I’d be tough and go without the epidural but after a trial run the other day of false labor I’m realizing I may not be that tough 😂 Nice to know some options for pushing that work with an epidural.
Hi!! Love the videos, super informative. Could you make a video about pelvic prolapse? I just gave birth 5 weeks ago and just now realizing that I have some sort of prolapse after checking myself out, I have a doctors appointment scheduled a week from now.. just desperate to find info on this and I trust your input your videos are educational and fun/funny!
Tina!!! Just want to say thank you for the videos you make! Being informed when it comes to pregnancy and labor feels so empowering! It seems that so many women go into this process without a lot of information they need and just kind of go with the flow, not knowing the questions to ask or requests to make their experience more pleasant! Any chance we can get a video on the third stage of labor?! I'm due in early November and would love to hear your thoughts! 🫶🏼❤️
If it’s become such basic and obvious knowledge that flat on the back is the worst position why is it still default in SO many hospitals even for patients with no epidural?
I'm a doula who's a big fan of the all-fours position! It's how I birthed my own babies and I love seeing the mamas I'm helping choose that shape. The first birth I attended, the mama got out of the tub saying she felt like pooping (a good sign!) and we scooted her right to the bed. The head of the bed was raised and instead of sitting she just crawled right up, gripped the top of the bed and squatted, pushing that lil guy out after only a dozen contractions. It was great to be able to help her achieve her goal of avoiding an epidural and the view was amazing, no joke!
I pushed with an epidural completely flat on my back. Even though it was my first she practically flew out after just two pushes. It was pretty crazy. I did end up tearing because she came out so quickly. I am hoping to go unmedicated next time and will try pushing on my side. I have heard side lying is the best position to prevent tearing. I really don't want to tear again because it made recovery so much harder.
@hamnahafeez9174 None at all! My daughter was only 5.8lbs so that might have something to do with it. I think with a much larger baby it would have been a different story.
@@nmh7499 Glad you didn't had it. I asked you because I go through the same labour as you. I had Episiotomy and It has been 11 months since then and my tailbone has not recovered fully. My daughter was 6.6lbs.
@hamnahafeez9174 I am so sorry. I have heard that pushing on your back can cause damage to your tailbone. 😣 I only recently learned about it. I am not sure what can be done to help it heal. I wonder if maybe a pelvic floor therapist could help but I am not really sure. I hope it gets better 🙏
@hamnahafeez9174 I do have a lot of issues with my sacroiliac joint on my very low back but that started during my pregnancy. I have done a lot of physical therapy exercises to build strength around the area but I still have flair ups occasionally. Lower back pain is the worst!
I always thought I would like to labour on all fours. I had 2 babies, for both the water broke before starting horrendous contractions. I had no energy for any position than lying on my side. Both were rather short though, 4 hours with no intervention (except for episiotomy for my first who was 10 pounds).
Can you do a video about placenta tearing or pieces being left behind? The reasons it can happen, etc. I've had it happen twice, and in South Africa they do not give pain meds when digging around to pull the pieces out, either directly after birth, and the next morning while they're doing an ultrasound to see if all is out and they're digging around a bit more.
I've vbac'd 3 out of 4 and without pain meds and have found my most effective labor positions BUT when it comes to the dilation station I've always wanted to know is it a good tool before labor kick starts as well similar to how we use the ball and to help us gear up? It works wonders for me during active labor.
I was induced on the 6th this month and had my baby at 10:48 pm. Freedom of movement was in my birth plan that were epidural friendly, but I could not feel my legs or move them at all lol. So the stirrups were for me! Luckily it only took 10ish pushes and baby girl was here! I didn’t feel anything from the time I got my epidural. I feel very lucky for my experience. I did have a 2nd degree tear though so that recovery has been the worst part of it all lol.
I’m 35 weeks with baby number 2 and I don’t want to labor or push on my back but I have SPD with this one so a lot of other positions are very painful. Do you find that people with SPD have a harder time laboring in other positions or does the pain of contractions kind of take away from the pubic pain?
I did the basic position for my first pregnancy but I want to either do side laying or kneeling with this one. (Due next week) My friend had her baby standing and squaring the doctors dropped him.
Thanks for the video ❤...but am in Africa and the doctors don't really negotiate with us...once the baby is coming, they tell u to lie on your back 😅😅no wasting their time

I delivered in side lying and loved it so much, I even had an epidural. Also didn’t tear!

Thanks for this video! It's ready helpful to have the pros and cons for each position.

@@mamanursetina Yeah I’m not sure why but they told me to start pushing at 6cm. They hadn’t checked my cervix.
It's terrible what they force women to do during labor in hospital😢. That's why women tear most of the time but they don't care .

Does it matter if you have a retroverted uterus? Is there a better position for labor?

You can do absolutely anything that feels good in early labor!
also remember you naturally relax those muscles more on the toilet. which super helps too.
