This is incredible. I'v)e been trying to convert to 3dsmax and I tend to get frustrated and revert back to Maya. (My company uses 3ds now.) Thank you so much for this quick game changer!
Thank you for this tutorial! I was having the exact problem you mentioned while trying to follow along with the hotkeys used in tutorial videos. After learning so many software programs, trying to remember another viewport control setup is really confusing when you switch back and forth so often. I was really frustrated that the Maya Interaction Mode in Max was changing all the hotkeys and I thought there wasn't a way to fix this since I looked through all of the hotkey settings. Never realized it would be under User Interface since that sounds like something that would change the window layouts and displays.
Alt key will not work because is used to rotate the view. Unfortunately there is no easy way, To deselect, Left Click+Drag on the object, hold Alt and then release the drag and Alt. You have to do this without rotating the view which is really awkward. I found this video that shows a way of doing it differently, but to me is too much work for something like this :How to get the alt deselect to work in 3ds Max 2013 after using the Maya Interaction Model . What I decided to do in my case was to change my navigation hotkeys so that instead of using alt + LMB for rotating view I set it to ctrl + alt + LMB . It was a bit annoying to have to select an extra button to navigate, but it was the easiest solution for me and now I can use alt to deselect.
I typically use maya for modeling. I don't rig or animate much, but I know most people use maya for that as well. I use Zbrush for sculpting. For textures I use Substance painter, you can also try substance designer. For portfolio renders I use marmoset toolbag or a game engine( unreal engine 4) if it is a scene. I can't speak in regards to rendering animations as I don't know what is being used in the film industry right now.
Oh man!!! One of the main reasons why i HATE to use Max is the navigation! This is great! Wish i had known about this sooner!
2021 and this is the best damn tutorial that saved my life today

The zoom doesnt work as maya after setting it up in 3ds max. The zoom direction gets inverted and vertical. Any solution to that?
Hi, did you notice that you cannot deselect FACES after you assign Alt+RMB
is there an anti-aliasing option in 3ds max as well like maya?
