It being a very bulky costume them going out of their way to show him trying to get through desperately to shield her and still fails, I feel like this was deffo the writers intention that if he had listened and went as an actual character from the notebook, he would have been able to make it in time

From his extreme sports ex-buddies (who just turned out to be 'extremists'), to becoming a professional sportsman, to being recognized as a writer, to a 'future' episode where he's the only one not recognized in a Great Ghost War, to being ousted as unlucky because of the curse, to his fear being pretty much being left alone. There's a lot to unpack there.
I think that Mr. PB knew that if Todd was going to be around him that Todd would have to go along with his nonsense. Which is what that interview process is really about

But considering that coal-based fuels in China make up 70% of their energy and that China and India have large populations, changing to fracking is a good idea. It might not be perfect, but gas emmisions are much less pollutant than coal based emmisions (especially considering soot) and it allows these nations to develop into more sustainable energy resources. It's not perfect, but it's a necessary evil of sorts.
