I’ve been looking for a video that explains this for ages! Thank you! As a huge fan of Vildjharta and Humanity’s last breath, I’m super interested in how to set up this midi automation with my Whammy DT to play along to their songs, please do more videos on this subject!!
Glad you like it! From what I understand this is basically how they do it. For live I believe they run the automation/amps etc trough a backing track so that all the programs are switched in time for the songs.
I love how you can pretty much just chuck the pedal itself in a rack (along with all your other pedals) and control them all via MIDI in your DAW. That is what I am building at the moment - a rack shelf for all my pedals with a MIDI switcher.
I have an Axe FX III and have wondered if the built in drop pedal is as good as the whammy. I do notice going lower then -3 semitones usually gets a bit too muddy on my Axe FX III.
Wish I could understand how to translate this to Reaper, mainly the part with automating both sides of the pedal simultaneously. Right now all I can figure out how to do is send one command at a time on the one channel.
Unfortunately I don't have any knowledge about that in Reaper. Would it be possible to make a second midi automation line in there for the second part of the pedal? That's how it worked for me in Logic.
@@gldchn.studios that's what I don't know. I just don't know enough about midi in general, regardless of the DAW. This is really my first foray into it.
Reaper allows you to mess with the MIDI channels in the editor, there should be a way to do it somehow. I haven't attempted it though so I can't give much more advice than that.
Can you do a video for studio one 6 digitech whammy DT automation? I can automate everything but a external pedal and i have a midi cable from my whammy to interface. Automation track shows automation being used but no sound. also the color of your program change is purple mine is blue my expression color is green.
Sorry for the late reply, unfortunately I have no experience with Studio one. But Im guessing that as long as you use the midi cable, you can use the program as a midi controller. You just have to make sure that you switch back to the bypassed mode once you are done with a certain part of program changes. Because they don't turn off automatically. Also you sound issue might be because you still need a jack cable for the signal. So midi cable for the program switches, Jack cable for the actual sound. Hope this helps. :)
Hey man, I recently got a DT Whammy, but I've never used physical MIDI connections/cables. Do you know if a MIDI to USB cable would control the DT Whammy? Or do I need MIDI to MIDI with some other device in Between the Whammy and my PC?
Hey! To my knowledge it only works with a midi cable. Most interfaces have a midi input and when you simply connect the two it should be working. USB is usually not able to transfer the midi data between the PC and Whammy but you can of course try.
Can you program the DT Whammy using the BOSS GT1000 midi without an interface? For instance...change from one patch to another and have it drop tune to a different key automatically so I don't have to bend down and turn the knob myself?

Just curious Are you using Studio one?
Never knew you could do this! Perfect for double tracking!

that's what buster does for HLB, he literally chucks it in the rack and it does all that crazy shit, mad.
I'm blown away
🥰
Super helpful thanks!
Right on!
Awesome!! 🤘
Thank you!
siiiick!!!!

@@shawnriffninjareacts7316 i think it’s quite the same then. - or + 3 semitones is usually where it starts to get muddy with most droptune pedals.

Do i need to conect the wahmmy with MIDI cables to do this? Thank for the video!!!
Yes correct.

Yes you can! I tried it out with my POD HD 500 and it worked as a midi controller.
