the girl in white took notice of the man in black among the specks of light in the vast night sky who suddenly spoke to her saying that one day he shall return and all that she has come to know shall be his
she then proceeded to tell him that as long as there are those that live in the shadows to threaten the land there will always be those that live in the light to protect it before demanding the darkness to be gone
the dark one then smiled telling her that they shall see how long that will last before flying away into the night

She walked bare feet on the barren soil. After 7 years, Gods! Had it been that long? Last time she didn't had any scars. But now so many covered her body, her face. Souvenirs collected in countless battles. From one war to another. Each one won, and each one took something from her every time. Her people, her strength, her body even her emotions.
Now the field doesn't evoke any feelings. No dreams. No hope. She had become what she overthrew. And for what? A land she doesn't even recognize anymore. A land which doesn't want her. People who berate her. Bards who lie about her. And loyal friends ready to stab her.
"Is that why I bled?" She whispered as she walked to the rising light of the sun.
A fleeting hope of a golden field still glimmered for a moment when it rose. Just like the way it used to. A faint smell of wheat still lingered here if you can dig deep beneath the scent of blood and ash. "It can grow once again" she bent down and tightened the charred dirt in her fist.
The land can heal once more. But it'll need nurturing not ruling for it to happen. A gentle touch of a mother not the fist of a Queen.
"Which am I?" She walked away as it became hot. The ounce of dirt still caged in her fingers. And the question still hurting her like a needle. It always will.

But everytime I tell people that I read the comic book Ghostblade they seem to have never heard of it. I think Ghostblade doesn't have the recognition it diserves. It is such a work of art, the comic book, two thumbs way way up for Richard Hoverman.

Darius spun on his heel, avoiding the daemon's strike. Through the rage that clouded his mind, he was still in control. His sword rose and cut the daemon prince's left wrist, not quite making it through, but causing Aeph'eron to howl in pain and anger.
"It burns!" The monster pointed at the weapon "What abomination have you wrought?!"
Darius' finger ran past the blade, cleaning the blood off the surface "A piece of art. From the remains of eighteen relics, forged and inscribed for eighteen days, prayed over by eighteen holy men and eighteen holy women for another eighteen days at eighteen different shrines and finally empowered by eighteen of my librarians. All for the purpose of destroying you. Trifles of course, but there is a certain power in Faith, even without gods. The daemon killing kind of power that burns you to your core."
A smirk would have shown, but the daemon would only see the cold steel and the lenses of his helmet. Darius took a step forward "For the brothers you killed, for my Lord and the debt you placed on us, I wield this weapon."
Aeph'eron's smile showed fangs and the daemon rose again "To statisfy your rage and indulge in your hate, you mean." His laugh boomed through the pillared hall they were fighting in "Yes, such will forever be your curse. And if I must die for that, then so be it." Its sword rose to point at the Lord of Last Light "If you can, that is."
Lord-Captain Avriol urged his men to work faster. The majority were fending off enemy reinforcements, while three were setting charges to destroy the shield generators of the enemy flagship. "Three minutes, and we'll have to pull out."
Losses were mounting up, another brother fell, a plague coated knife burried in his neck, between the plates of his armour. Avriol turned and fired the melta charge of his weapon, which turned his brother's killer into a pile of molten flesh and armour. The weapon was potent, but had limmited charges. He only had two shots left from it. He turned again when he got the notice that the charges were set. "Signal 9th and 12th to get out of here, then blow these charges."
In a flash, they were back on their own ship, looking out into the void at the enemy ship as the fireworks went off. Avriol smirked as he removed his helmet. The sight was beautifull to him. A fiery explosion, feeding on the spores and disease of mist that hung inside the ship.
Right on cue, a servant took his helmet from him and reported in "We just received word, my Lord. They have arrived."
Alpha-2-73-01 overlooked her fleet from the command deck. As the ruling lady of the Wandering Forge, she had elected to lead this operation herself. "Prepare nova cannons to fire. All vessels prepare to engage and drop troops to the surface."
Her second nodded. She never liked Delta-5-18-3. He was petty, obnoxious and had been the greatest threat to her leadership. The reason he was her second, was so she could lord her authority over him at all times. None of this stemmed from anything a human would call emotion however, no, she had worked hard on a system that would drown those out and instead calculate how she should feel for an optimal thought pattern.
Delta reported back "Projected casualties are outside of the agreed upon parameter. In the interest of the Forge, we should pull out of the engagement."
"Negative, stay the course." Alpha was not an emotional being, but she be damned if she were not an honourable being "The Blades came to our aid in our time of need, we shall return the favour in kind."

A single servo arm mounted from her shoulder shot out towerds Delta and closed it's metal claw around his neck, or what still passed for a neck on the heavily augmented body of the tech-priest "I gave an order. I am still your Sovereign, whelp, and you will listen and obey."
As she released him, he shot a glare at her "You are not as logical as you deem yourself to be, Domina."
"Perhaps not, but the Blades are our allies, and the Forge does not abbandon it's allies, nor leave them to die. Prepare my lander. I will personally make planetfall to oversee operations."
