The song "The children of ire" strikes me. The lyrics, it makes me think not of elves or dragons, but of the real anihilation of indigenous people that have happened. And those walking on their land, forgetting who's sacred land they walk on, who's blood they walk on, forgetting their language, their culture, forgetting that they are walking on land that does not belong to them. Having recently discovered that I am half indigenous, and learning why this was hidden from me.. never having the chance to know my culture, my language, my people not being allowed to name their children according to their own culture. Assimilation. They killed our history, our language, our culture, and took our land. And tried to make us forget. Our names, gone. My name, gone.
It is true, but if the indigenous peoples had not been conquered, neither you nor I would exist.

While many indigenuous people have been slaughetered in the world, and many cultures have already been lost for all eternity, I exist. Now go read a book and educate yourself, or at least do a quick google search on the fights of indigenuous people today. Our fight for rights, reclaiming our language, our culture, our birthright, our history that the history books repeatedly try to wipe out. Read about the protests of having even more land taken from us, by big companies with the support of the opressing government. This is an on-going battle for the ones who remain. And we exist.

The room was dead silent after the words had been spoken.
After Avriol had sent his report, the Lord-Captains had each expected to be sent home to recover from the war behind them.
Instead, it had remained silent for a while, until their orders finally came through.
Avriol simply shook his head when he ran the numbers again. The entire chapter was deploying. Every Blade still breathing was headed for Adraxia. Not only that, but major elements of the three other chapters were each set to deploy in the war to come.
The Lord of the 1st had barely overcome his surprise when he saw that most of these forces would be concentrated in a single city.
Stormguard was the capital of Adraxia, and the command centre for Imperial Guard forces across the Thirty Planets.
The city could not be allowed to fall, under any circumstances.
He shook his head. With a force of this size in its defence, there was no way Stormguard would ever fall.
No matter how many times he looked over the numbers, he always came to the same conclusion.
Yet in the back of his mind, he could not help but feel like they were going towards their death.

Part 21
Avriol felt no small amount of satisfaction as he watched the night sky turn orange.
Someone could have easily mistaken the sudden light for a discoloured sunrise. The Titans had that effect.
The massive God-Engines had walked towards the marked strongholds, and simply unloaded weapons designed to flatten continents on them, killing any ork or other lifeform inside.
A final slaughter to mark the end of the war.
The Lord of the 1st turned away from the fires, towards a more grim sight.
Funeral pyres, each neatly lined up to perfection. Over two hundred of them, each displaying a fallen Blade, their armour washed and repainted. Between the pyres, Chaplains were administering the last rights for the slain. It would not be long until they would send the spirits of the fallen home for the final time.
Two pyres stood apart from the others, ellevated to stand higher than their brothers. The warriors laid to rest atop them wore more ornate armour than the others. Their helmets were placed by their sides, so that their pale faces could be displayed for all to see.
So that the brothers they had left behind could see that they were at peace.
Avriol was overcome with melancholy at the sight. Even more so because he could not attend the lighting of the pyres.
He had been called upon. All the Lord-Captains still standing had been.
The Lord of Last Light had called upon them, and Avriol at least wished to prepare for that.
After all, someone had to break the news of two fallen Lord-Captains to their master, and that burden would not fall on any other as long as the Lord of the 1st could help it.
Misaeron had taken a moment away from the funerals of his brothers to attend another matter.
His wounds still ached, but he felt he owed the brave humans that had fallen while fighting by his side this much.
There were no funeral pyres for them, no grand gestures of mourning. The regiments of the Imperial Guard would be sent out to clean up the last of the greenskins soon, so their dead had to make due with a simple mass grave.
The lieutenant could not help but feel frustrated at the lack of respect these fallen soldiers were treated with.
There would not be a record of their heroics, their names would not be remembered. These men had to make due with a single hole in the ground, in which all their bodies were unceremoniously dumped.
That was not to say that no one mourned them. They had their own friends in their regiments, their own kin at home. To the latter he could not be of use. They would likely never even know that their loved ones had died, instead wondering why they had not come home yet.
But to their friends, he could at least be of some comfort. Even wounded, an Astartes was a sight to behold. To have such a warrior pay his respects to their fallen comrades at least gave them the idea that it had not been for nothing. That at least someone in this universe cared about them.
He owed them that much.
