Thank you for your reaction to Angelina's live performance of "Million Miles". I agree with you that fame and possessions do not mean fulfilment as an artist or, indeed in any aspect of life. It was interesting to hear that you prefer singers when they can sing about things they have experienced and, in most cases, I totally agree with you. However, in Angelina's case we must make an exception - you know, the one that proves the rule. From the time she stepped on to the stage in her audition for Norway's Got Talent she has sung with an emotion which she could never have experienced st the age of seven. Yes, by some miracle she understands the emotions in the lyrics and melody of the song and is able to communicate them to her listener. There ids no explanation. She just does. My introduction to Angelina was on her first appearance at Norway's Got Talent and I didn't expect much from a 7-year-old. Just a cute little girl, all nervous, rushing the song in parts, hesitating and then stumbling over or forgetting her words and generally acting her age and doing her best to get through a childish song like "Twinkle, twinkle little star". What did I see? Well, it was a seven-year-old child, with wild hair and gaps in her mouth, where there once were baby teeth. And that was when the normal perception ended and things turned upside down. She confidently answered the questions put to her by a Judge. Declared she was going to sing a song by the legendary Billie Holiday. Gestured off-stage for the technician to start the music and then started singing. The body of the 7-year-old was still there, but the voice wasn't. Or was it? I was surprised then and that surprise is still with me, some six years later. I have followed her career since I saw that first video on UA-cam and in the six years she has been singing publicly she has mastered many musical genres, including Blues, Country, Disco, Jazz, Pop, R&B and Soul, EDM and Rock and covered songs first performed by many famous singers, like Adele, Whitney Houston, Nancy and Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland, Lana del Ray, Avicii, Bill Withers, Gloria Gaynor, Andy Williams, Elvis Presley, Louis Armstrong and many others. What is more extraordinary is that she takes ownership of every song she sings while still paying respect to the original. You will notice that she never goes into unnecessary theatrics. Never sings those high or low notes unless they are absolutely necessary. Never projects herself in any performance which says "look how good I am". She just sings the song as she feels it is meant to be sung. And I'll add an even more extraordinary item for you to consider, to show how unique she is. She has the innate ability not only to sing a song as emotionally as the song deserves but to be able to communicate those same emotions to the listener. As I have noted above, I have been following her career a long time and have listened to every interview she has given and every documentary about her and every performance she has ever given. What stands out for me is how a very shy and humble girl in her normal life, can be transformed into the perfect vehicle for the song she has chosen to sing, once she starts to sing. Although the gift of singing and all her performances appear to be effortless, Angelina works very hard to ensure that the one she is going to record reflects what she sees as the correct way to meld both lyrics and melody. Most of her performances are recorded in her home studio, either with background music or a single guitar. Most are done in one take. She treats the whole thing as a hobby. As we would have said when I was young. "There is no 'side' to her" She is completely transparent to the world. Perhaps you would like to go back a few years and work forward. By doing so, you will come to the realisation that she is "unique" and I don't use that word loosely. There is truly no other singer who has her versatility and sheer ability to communicate the emotions of a song to her listeners. I doubt there is another singer who works so hard to ensure that, when she sings the song, it is sung in such a way that her listener becomes enmeshed in the emotions

I think the best place to start is her Norway's Got Talent audition cover of Billie Holiday's "Gloomy Sunday" when she was 7 yrs old (with Eng. subtitles - so you can understand the judges). That way your first impression of her at that age won't be mixed up with her performances of other songs. It also helps to know what Billie Holiday sounds like, because she managed to sing the song with some identifiable vocal inflections. What makes her amazing at 7 was how mature she was. Her A.G.T. Champions performances are when she was 13, so that wouldn't give as good an indication of her journey. I think the compilation video of her performances on Norway's Got Talent would be better after your first exposure ( if you have the time). I think it would be good to have your sister watch with you.

Daniel many thanks for posting this reaction to celebrate Angelina's 15th birthday. She always captivates the listener from the first note then grabs hold on to your soul and doesn't let go until she has finished the song. Her ability to tell a story IMO is unsurpassed. Republic Records is setting up a world wide promotion for her upcoming album which I understand was completed months ago and contains mostly, if not all, original songs. Angelina is bringing ART back into being a musical artist. The video containing all 4 performances at Norway's Got Talent works fine since you don't mind making long reaction videos. Makes sense to watch all 4 performances in one viewing where you can see how much she improves over a few months. Hopefully one or both of your sisters will join you for that reaction as it is music history which will be viewed until the end of time. I just read someone else suggesting playing Billie Holiday's Gloomy Sunday first to learn about one of the all time great jazz singers and also since Angelina said if it wasn't for her unconditional love for Billie Holiday there would not be the Angelina we know today.

Seeing her sing after one year of the last public performance, in this beautiful B / W video is absolutely wonderful, after having listened to her voice hundreds of times in the previous adorable video with the drawings of her grandmother, to see her now interpret her song with such skill, even changing it slightly is absolutely fantastic, it makes you stand there, in full admiration for her evolution, as a person and as a singer, it's impossible to break away from it. Great reaction!!! She has an amazing voice, but her true talent is being able to communicate emotions in a way that resonates with nearly everyone. It seems most everyone get goosebumps in almost all of her songs. She is a treasure.

Many people talk about her born Talent, but she trained her voice over many years since she sings from 1 1/2y till today . She released over 130 Songs from near 80 Artist and different genres on YT. But the Main Thing is her amazing mind and memories for music. Thats what the judges said after her first performance on NGT: you are music 🤗 All Songs from NGT are very interesting to listen. She said in an Interview last year, Billy Holiday had find her. The first Song Gloomy Sunday blows the judges away and shocked the audience. The second i am a fool to want you in acapella version was absolut perfect. The other Songs shows also her wonderful emotionel Expression. Her vib was amazing at that early age. Watch her mouth & jaw, she is creating effects only done by electronic added effects. No it's not an added effect, it's her vocal fry, vibrato and something else. You can hear it developing in her live performances. It's there.
Absolutely agree! I've been following her since she was 7 and I have known that the way she sings is on another level and realized that she has created certain sounds that only she makes while singing live. Like the the sounds you hear in this live performance...she is an Artist in the full sense of the word. I find myself picking up these sounds and thought it was just me. Cheers!

She has music in her blood, has absorbed it since she was born and is able to connect, truly connect with the listener. All her original songs have profound meaning to her and universally. She's writing and singing about the human heart, what we all feel about different things that happen in our lives. Even "Oslo", dedicated to her country and birth city conveys that feeling of belonging each of us has towards our homeland. Note that Angelina is just herself. Her persona is humble even though she knows how good she is. Her body language and demeanor does not crave the adulation other artists crave. Her arms stay by her sides as she uses her hands to emphasize her words which shows her humility. Don’t think she will ever throw her arms out on a high note to say see what I can do. There is a purpose to everything she does but it is not to garner praise or glory.

She is 15 now and has been singing since a baby. Won Norway's AGT....she is a prodigy and an angel. Her last name is Astar. This song was written because her grandfather passed. It's done for everyone who has lost someone during this pandemic, She is a super star and a wonderful star child.

Great reaction to Angelina, probably one of my favorites. There are so many of her videos to react to (close to 140) The video with all of her performances in the Norway’s Got Talent for sure and also all the performances in 2020’s AGT. You’ll probably would want to react to all her originals (Shield, What is Life, Oslo) and a couple that were written for her (Song for A, Hearts Above the Water, and one other that the family took down because of the suggestion of suicide in the end of the song, I’m Holding Out for You). There are many, many more must watch videos. Hope you do continue down the Angelina road, you’ll find that you will be just as amazed as you were with Million Miles with nearly everything you will hear. YES - you get it. The contra point between the sadness of loss and the almost ... imperative triumph and melancholy of living on with the memory - not many songs were written that managed that without getting cheesy. There are 3 reasons for you to react to her "talent" performances. You have a unique take on this reaction-thing. You surely will add something new to these samples that have been reacted upon to death. And three, the AGT performances will grow your channel. AJ+ AGT draws a crowd. And I would be more than happy for many more people to become aware of your take on song analyses - while your insights also will help the young lady soon to drop her first album. A perfect win-win situation. Maybe you could pair up the performances by giving us your thoughts of AJ aged 7 (one song from NGT) vs AJ 13 (one song from AGT)? Doing that for 2-3 videos (these talent-songs are after all chopped down to ca 2 minutes because the attention span of TV viewers are found to be too short to hang on to a 4-minute full-rendition). This will give your channel low hit-rate for the video - but it will make your personal brain-cells and mind so much joy - and it will put two lines under your words above about the direction of her future. She recorded the vocals for Song of A at the age of 13. "A song for A" is not a jazz-classic. It is a song that lies in Elain Paige territory. Record it or not - listen to it. Your brain will be grateful. Angelina Jordan will not become the pretty princess that sang songs as well as the best of them singing in the 20th century (as she is now). Nice reaction! It is interesting how she combines sadness with a comforting vibe as well. Haha! You are going to be blown away when you check out more covers. She expresses the emotion of life experiences that she has not yet lived better than most adults (adult romantic love and loss, for example). I really have no preference for either the NGT compilation or individual videos. You miss out on some judge comments or intro in the compilation, but all the songs work fine. If you do them individually, get the videos with subtitles. She does Adele (E.g, A Million Years Ago), Rhianna (Stay), Lana del Rey (e.g., Born to Die) and many others with more emotion than the original. The ones she feels through her own experiences (especially those dealing with the loss of a loved one or respected friend or significant artist) can be even more powerful. Continue on this journey. Awe and amazement continue.

Seems Republic Records has chosen to not promote this song until they release the full album which I understand was completed months ago. I know Republic Records has been setting up a world wide promotion for the album. The pandemic probably also factors in. Republic would want Angelina to go on tour to promote the album but of course that is not possible yet.
You nailed it. Sad. But hopeful. This stripped down version is even better that the first released lyric video version. The haunting piano and crying cello along with her emotional voice move me every single time I listen.
Her performances on Norways go Talent are always worth a visit. Angelina is pitch perfect in any song. Using autotune would be like applying a scratch removal filter on a scratchfree picture. Can only make it worse!
I don’t think the song is sad. The reminiscence about a loved one recognizes the loss and aloneness, but the overall message is that we still have them in our memories, and we appreciate how loved ones who’ve passed have improved our lives. And their good influence leads us to live better lives. That’s the positive message I get. And then-her voice is magical. Always mesmerizing and hypnotic, but also haunting in this song. Angelina has it all. She is the best singer I’ve ever heard. No one even close.
You gotta find Angelina's version of "I Put A Spell On You", a cover of Screamin' Jay Hawkins' blues/jazz classic. She was 9 yrso. She turned 15 in early January 2021. She's amazing.

Loved your quote from "Spirit of Radio", Daniel. What a marvelous description by my favourite lyricist (so far) about my favourite singer (by far). You should definitely check out her NGT performances. They are her earliest and will shed light on her "internet origins" (while blowing you away in the process) The "all in one" is pretty decent - look for subtitle availability. I would make one recommendation though. Play a part of the original song (20 seconds or so) to get a "feel" before we hear AJ. It will add to the appreciation of this prodigy (like a well chosen appetizer before a gourmet meal) Even if you're familiar with the original (which many viewers wont' be) it will make AJ sound that much better. Yes. Definitely go back and do all of the performances from NGT. Knock them all out at once. You will get a good perspective of 14 versus 8 years old. And it’s quite different. You’ll see a very young girl channeling classic jazz singers. It took me several listens before I truly appreciated what she did there. Keep in mind I was not familiar with the originals by these artists and went to listen to them and then back to Angelina singing them after hearing the originals. This young girl had massive music knowledge at a very young age. In an interview after releasing Million Miles she thanks Billie Holiday for her gift of music
Starting / continuing with the performances on Norway's Got Talent is a good idea. Doing all of them at once with the 10 minute clip could work, if want it condensed before continuing with later performances. If you prefer more "wow" factor in the form of the judges comments and some behind the scenes clips, then go for the full versions (with subtitles).

From the time she stepped on to the stage in her audition for Norway's Got Talent she has sung with an emotion which she could never have experienced st the age of seven. Yes, by some miracle she understands the emotions in the lyrics and melody of the song and is able to communicate them to her listener. There ids no explanation. She just does.
My introduction to Angelina was on her first appearance at Norway's Got Talent and I didn't expect much from a 7-year-old. Just a cute little girl, all nervous, rushing the song in parts, hesitating and then stumbling over or forgetting her words and generally acting her age and doing her best to get through a childish song like "Twinkle, twinkle little star". What did I see? Well, it was a seven-year-old child, with wild hair and gaps in her mouth, where there once were baby teeth. And that was when the normal perception ended and things turned upside down. She confidently answered the questions put to her by a Judge. Declared she was going to sing a song by the legendary Billie Holiday. Gestured off-stage for the technician to start the music and then started singing. The body of the 7-year-old was still there, but the voice wasn't. Or was it? I was surprised then and that surprise is still with me, some six years later.
I have followed her career since I saw that first video on UA-cam and in the six years she has been singing publicly she has mastered many musical genres, including Blues, Country, Disco, Jazz, Pop, R&B and Soul, EDM and Rock and covered songs first performed by many famous singers, like Adele, Whitney Houston, Nancy and Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland, Lana del Ray, Avicii, Bill Withers, Gloria Gaynor, Andy Williams, Elvis Presley, Louis Armstrong and many others. What is more extraordinary is that she takes ownership of every song she sings while still paying respect to the original. You will notice that she never goes into unnecessary theatrics. Never sings those high or low notes unless they are absolutely necessary. Never projects herself in any performance which says "look how good I am". She just sings the song as she feels it is meant to be sung. And I'll add an even more extraordinary item for you to consider, to show how unique she is. She has the innate ability not only to sing a song as emotionally as the song deserves but to be able to communicate those same emotions to the listener.
As I have noted above, I have been following her career a long time and have listened to every interview she has given and every documentary about her and every performance she has ever given. What stands out for me is how a very shy and humble girl in her normal life, can be transformed into the perfect vehicle for the song she has chosen to sing, once she starts to sing.
Although the gift of singing and all her performances appear to be effortless, Angelina works very hard to ensure that the one she is going to record reflects what she sees as the correct way to meld both lyrics and melody. Most of her performances are recorded in her home studio, either with background music or a single guitar. Most are done in one take. She treats the whole thing as a hobby. As we would have said when I was young. "There is no 'side' to her" She is completely transparent to the world.
Perhaps you would like to go back a few years and work forward. By doing so, you will come to the realisation that she is "unique" and I don't use that word loosely. There is truly no other singer who has her versatility and sheer ability to communicate the emotions of a song to her listeners. I doubt there is another singer who works so hard to ensure that, when she sings the song, it is sung in such a way that her listener becomes enmeshed in the emotions

I think the best place to start is her Norway's Got Talent audition cover of Billie Holiday's "Gloomy Sunday" when she was 7 yrs old (with Eng. subtitles - so you can understand the judges). That way your first impression of her at that age won't be mixed up with her performances of other songs. It also helps to know what Billie Holiday sounds like, because she managed to sing the song with some identifiable vocal inflections. What makes her amazing at 7 was how mature she was. Her A.G.T. Champions performances are when she was 13, so that wouldn't give as good an indication of her journey. I think the compilation video of her performances on Norway's Got Talent would be better after your first exposure ( if you have the time). I think it would be good to have your sister watch with you.

Daniel many thanks for posting this reaction to celebrate Angelina's 15th birthday. She always captivates the listener from the first note then grabs hold on to your soul and doesn't let go until she has finished the song. Her ability to tell a story IMO is unsurpassed. Republic Records is setting up a world wide promotion for her upcoming album which I understand was completed months ago and contains mostly, if not all, original songs. Angelina is bringing ART back into being a musical artist.
The video containing all 4 performances at Norway's Got Talent works fine since you don't mind making long reaction videos. Makes sense to watch all 4 performances in one viewing where you can see how much she improves over a few months. Hopefully one or both of your sisters will join you for that reaction as it is music history which will be viewed until the end of time. I just read someone else suggesting playing Billie Holiday's Gloomy Sunday first to learn about one of the all time great jazz singers and also since Angelina said if it wasn't for her unconditional love for Billie Holiday there would not be the Angelina we know today.

Many people talk about her born Talent, but she trained her voice over many years since she sings from 1 1/2y till today . She released over 130 Songs from near 80 Artist and different genres on YT. But the Main Thing is her amazing mind and memories for music. Thats what the judges said after her first performance on NGT: you are music 🤗
All Songs from NGT are very interesting to listen. She said in an Interview last year, Billy Holiday had find her. The first Song Gloomy Sunday blows the judges away and shocked the audience. The second i am a fool to want you in acapella version was absolut perfect. The other Songs shows also her wonderful emotionel Expression. Her vib was amazing at that early age.

Watch her mouth & jaw, she is creating effects only done by electronic added effects. No it's not an added effect, it's her vocal fry, vibrato and something else. You can hear it developing in her live performances. It's there.
Absolutely agree! I've been following her since she was 7 and I have known that the way she sings is on another level and realized that she has created certain sounds that only she makes while singing live. Like the the sounds you hear in this live performance...she is an Artist in the full sense of the word. I find myself picking up these sounds and thought it was just me. Cheers!

Angelina is truly unique in so many ways I can't even start explaining them all. But just wanted to say she IS MUSIC!
She has music in her blood, has absorbed it since she was born and is able to connect, truly connect with the listener.
All her original songs have profound meaning to her and universally. She's writing and singing about the human heart, what we all feel about different things that happen in our lives. Even "Oslo", dedicated to her country and birth city conveys that feeling of belonging each of us has towards our homeland.
There's so much to say about her that I'm sure someone, some day will write a biography.

Note that Angelina is just herself. Her persona is humble even though she knows how good she is. Her body language and demeanor does not crave the adulation other artists crave. Her arms stay by her sides as she uses her hands to emphasize her words which shows her humility. Don’t think she will ever throw her arms out on a high note to say see what I can do. There is a purpose to everything she does but it is not to garner praise or glory.

Great reaction to Angelina, probably one of my favorites. There are so many of her videos to react to (close to 140) The video with all of her performances in the Norway’s Got Talent for sure and also all the performances in 2020’s AGT. You’ll probably would want to react to all her originals (Shield, What is Life, Oslo) and a couple that were written for her (Song for A, Hearts Above the Water, and one other that the family took down because of the suggestion of suicide in the end of the song, I’m Holding Out for You). There are many, many more must watch videos. YES - you get it. The contra point between the sadness of loss and the almost ... imperative triumph and melancholy of living on with the memory - not many songs were written that managed that without getting cheesy.
There are 3 reasons for you to react to her "talent" performances. You have a unique take on this reaction-thing. You surely will add something new to these samples that have been reacted upon to death. And three, the AGT performances will grow your channel. AJ+ AGT draws a crowd. Maybe you could pair up the performances by giving us your thoughts of AJ aged 7 (one song from NGT) vs AJ 13 (one song from AGT)? Nice reaction! It is interesting how she combines sadness with a comforting vibe as well. Haha! You are going to be blown away when you check out more covers. She expresses the emotion of life experiences that she has not yet lived better than most adults (adult romantic love and loss, for example). I really have no preference for either the NGT compilation or individual videos. You miss out on some judge comments or intro in the compilation, but all the songs work fine. If you do them individually, get the videos with subtitles. She does Adele (E.g, A Million Years Ago), Rhianna (Stay), Lana del Rey (e.g., Born to Die) and many others with more emotion than the original. The ones she feels through her own experiences (especially those dealing with the loss of a loved one or respected friend or significant artist) can be even more powerful. Continue on this journey. Awe and amazement continue.
Why is this song not a massive hit.
Because social media has directed people to things that have no socially redeeming values, and YT presents those useless videos on the top tier screen.
Seems Republic Records has chosen to not promote this song until they release the full album which I understand was completed months ago. I know Republic Records has been setting up a world wide promotion for the album. The pandemic probably also factors in. Republic would want Angelina to go on tour to promote the album but of course that is not possible yet.

You nailed it. Sad. But hopeful. This stripped down version is even better that the first released lyric video version. The haunting piano and crying cello along with her emotional voice move me every single time I listen.

Angelina is pitch perfect in any song. Using autotune would be like applying a scratch removal filter on a scratchfree picture. Can only make it worse!
I don’t think the song is sad. The reminiscence about a loved one recognizes the loss and aloneness, but the overall message is that we still have them in our memories, and we appreciate how loved ones who’ve passed have improved our lives. And their good influence leads us to live better lives. That’s the positive message I get.
And then-her voice is magical. Always mesmerizing and hypnotic, but also haunting in this song. Angelina has it all. She is the best singer I’ve ever heard. No one even close.

The "all in one" is pretty decent - look for subtitle availability.
I would make one recommendation though.
Play a part of the original song (20 seconds or so) to get a "feel" before we hear AJ. It will add to the appreciation of this prodigy (like a well chosen appetizer before a gourmet meal)
Even if you're familiar with the original (which many viewers wont' be) it will make AJ sound that much better.

I always enjoy your reactions,you're very thoughtful and have a great ear for music.I like that you focus on the art which is where the richness of Angelina's gift can really be appreciated.Angelina has so many layers to her artistic expression that it would be fascinating to see you do a video on that topic.From barefeet,to clothing,the instruments that she plays,her composition and interpretation skills,her onstage charisma,her awareness of the instrumentation around her,her intense focus,her commitment to vulnerability in her vocals,her charity to others,her grandma mentor,etc.
Angelina is such a breath of fresh air in this age of manufactured hooks, synthesized gimmicks and over-sexualized videos. She is the voice of hope. Great reaction as always.

Yes. Definitely go back and do all of the performances from NGT. Knock them all out at once. You will get a good perspective of 14 versus 8 years old. And it’s quite different. You’ll see a very young girl channeling classic jazz singers. It took me several listens before I truly appreciated what she did there. Keep in mind I was not familiar with the originals by these artists and went to listen to them and then back to Angelina singing them after hearing the originals. This young girl had massive music knowledge at a very young age. In an interview after releasing Million Miles she thanks Billie Holiday for her gift of music

Starting / continuing with the performances on Norway's Got Talent is a good idea. Doing all of them at once with the 10 minute clip could work, if want it condensed before continuing with later performances. If you prefer more "wow" factor in the form of the judges comments and some behind the scenes clips, then go for the full versions (with subtitles).
