💕💕💕 Beautiful, isn't it? 50 years of listening to YES and it never gets old. In fact, watching reaction videos has made me appreciate the music with brand new eyes and ears. I've enjoyed your reactions and interpretations very much, Daniel. You may be very young, but you are an old soul, and a wise one. And that's a very special thing. 💕💕💕
I really like Yes and maybe especially this album, but one of the things I appreciate even more is how they use counterpoint in their themes. In rock, pop, metal etc its so much unison melodies and riffs. Also identical repetitions (same riff in a loop etc) without variation. But the intro theme of ”To be over” is a good example where they do some kind of quodlibet thing (two different melodies playing against eachother on the same chord progression). Call it what ever you want, but i can really hear that they are inspired by classical music in that sense - but also really work on their music. (I love unison riffing also, by the way - but sometimes I wish people put even more effort into the composition)
Listening to a Yes song is like being captured in a ray of light and sound from Heaven. You leave it calm, energized, hopeful, and ready to spread the positivity. And you can do it over and over, whenever you need it. Bless them! ❤️
Dan this song is in my top 10 yes songs very underrated a beautiful piece of music seen them live for 1976 to 2011. Don't doubt your part, be ready to be loved !
YES to Yes! And YES to reactions to Yes music! And Steely Dan..... And Pink Floyd And Led Zeppelin And Rush And The Beatles! No particular order there, just to point out what you and everyone knows, that the most popular reactions to music, involve AT LEAST those 6 groups. Of course, there are so many others! It took us Boomers at least 25 years of living and hearing this music in "real time". Only if a reactor makes a literal full time job of doing sincere reactions to our music, can they even HOPE to get to even MOST of the fantastic music in ALL GENRES, that we grew up with. So, I enjoy WHILE I CAN, what a few reactors do, like you, Daniel! It's not as good as having a grandchild your age who is interested to hear about "the 60s & 70s" music and history! Re-experiencing the music, along with reactors who take it seriously, is the next best thing!
One of my favorite tracks ever. Steve Howe's guitar playing reaches phenomenal levels, and the outro still gives me chills. A brilliant pick by our host. (You've done The Yes Album, CTtE, Tales, and Relayer. Fragile will blow your mind.)
Patrick Moraz, admirably replacing at the time the all-time titan, Mr. Wakeman. What an incredible song. Just another one of Yes' "Wonderous Stories". Hint, hint, for about 2 years now... :)
This song is about dying. Being over with life, and what is next. That was my comment you read, and my friend who was shot and killed. A year earlier, he and I were riding in my Abbey Road VW Beetle catching a buzz and listening to this song. At some point we picked up a hitcher, but kept listening to the music, as in a trance. When the song was to be over we were in a different town, letting the hitcher out. I never saw Bill again. He was soon over, too soon. Soon the light. That song, like many of theirs, has deep spiritual roots.
Thank you so much for reviewing the final track of Relayer. "To be over" is such a gem, that classic Yes sound and structure and so wonderfully done. When I was much younger and Relayer was new it was my favourite track of the album. But now the whole album is a complete classic with "Gates" just ahead. At the start when you said "Buckle up" I thought nope this is a drift along tune for sure and that nine or so mins just passes by so fast. But a lot of Yes music does seem to make time fly and I think you know that now. It's all about the sonic journey and emotions with Yes. But that's how you know the song is so great. Seeing you smile and the delight on your face to this track is wonderful because that is was this sonic journey is about. Yes is one of the very few bands who can move you to tears of absolute delight, uplift you to such heights and leave you in such a wonderful joyous state. I hope their music continues to inspire and amaze way into the future, way after I and the early Yes fans are gone. Thank you for being part of that process.
I’m not usually a fan of ‘non official’ videos on reactions but the imagery on this was beautiful. Glad you’ve got to hear the whole of this fantastic album from the band which was a big part of my teen years in the 70’s. Thanks.
Relayer was designed very similar to 'Close to the Edge'. One side was one long track, which some think is better than CttE, with the other side having just 2 tracks, 1 up tempo, and the other one more subdued, but they switched the order, ending with 'To Be Over', where CttE ended with 'Siberian Khatru'. In my opinion, YES was trying to re-create another 'Close to the Edge', and I'd say they basically succeeded, since some YES fans rank this album ahead of Close to the Edge. I don't, but it's right behind CttE, at #2 in my favorite YES albums, with 'Fragile' and 'The Yes Album' following. Patrick Moraz on keyboards was just incredible on this album. I'm actually surprised they got rid of him and took Rick back, after he left, being unhappy with Tales from Topographic Oceans. Not that I'm complaining. I'm just shocked they gave up on Patrick, after this incredible performance. Glad you finally finished this album. Just around 20 more albums to go 😃
This song is great and the whole album is unbelievably good. But Daniel...I very much wish that you will someday check out some of Yes' 90s stuff. Keys to Ascension I & II and The Ladder...IMO, the music on those albums is just as good as their mega-popular stuff from the 70s. The 70s were spent learning what they could do, where music can go. In the 90s they knew what they could do. And they did it well. Worth checking out.
As I listen for a second time, it's a song that creates mental imagery. I find myself having to keep my eyes closed. And perhaps or perhaps not by design, a certain Middle-Eastern flair.
Relayer has, over time, become my favourite Yes album. Many, many listens are recommended; so much to digest and appreciate. Time WELL spent, believe me.
Hey, that was a 3:24 instrumental opening. I was waiting for vocals to begin. An instrumental break. There are quite a few instrumental breaks on this track. I’m conflicted now. Hehehe. To Be Over is melodic.
Thanks for this, Daniel. Good to see you circle back to Yes. Still hoping to get a reaction from you to Dancing Madly Backwards by Captain Beyond someday soon. Perhaps looking at their album cover art will whet your appetite...
Love this song! Epic. The sound gets narrow before it opens wide at around 5:53. Simple, yet powerful as it transforms through to its beautiful conclusion of this album.
I'm recommending a Kansas Marathon - one of the top 3 prog bands in the world that we haven't heard for a LONG time. 1. Lamplight Symphony (from Song for America - 1975) 2. Incomudro - Hymn to the Atman (from Song for America - 1975) 3. The Pinnacle (from Masque - 1975) 4. The Wall (from Leftoverture - 1976) 5.Miracles out of Nowhere (from Leftoverture - 1976) 6. Hopelessly Human (from Point of Know Return - 1977) 7. Hold On (from AudioVisions - 1979?) What an incredible band. All these songs were composed by the incredible Kerry Livgren. Please, please play these for all of us WHEATHEADs and those who will become one after hearing these songs.
There can never be enough Kansas. The greatest American progressive band, as complex and rich as any other. And to this day, holds almost a cult-like status in parts of Asia.
Happy Friday! Daniel. 😀😀 Golly. Is it really the 2nd week of August? Time flys by. Have you ever finished the JULY songs suggestions list? Will you be asking the Legion for a AUGUST song suggestion list? Have an enjoyable day. ☀☀☀☀
Best part of the reaction was around 5 min in when they pulled the ol' "We interrupt this beautiful hypnotic Yes song to bring you the following Steve Howe madness" lol I think you only have a few more songs from "Going For The One" then you can start the really odd (which means you'll love it haha) Tormato album.
Dan, seeing you expressions during this reaction made me think you have missed reacting to Yes music. Here is a big hint. Grab the 1973 Yessongs album set and start on that. Forget any video version, just the audio because that was professionally done like the studio albums with Eddy Offord. You will get a different insight into Yes live and how they react, work and elevate their music with their fans live on stage. Guaranteed it's a great ride.
Relayer is a fantastic album. You should find the track "the Order of the Universe" ( the live version) by ABWH= Anderson,Bruford, Wakeman,Howe when they could not call themselves Yes ( Minus a Chris Squire) Amazing album, high energy tracks. Including Brother of Mine. Just a thought.. I think of it as an unofficial Yes album. Also looking forward to Jon Anderson tour in 2023.
Patrick Moraz did one album with a group called Refugee just before he joined Yes. He joined Lee Jackson and Brian Davison who had been with Keith Emerson in the Nice. Grand Canyon Suite and Credo are excellent
I believe you've reacted to all of 'The Yes Album', along with CttE, TfTO, and now Relayer. 'Fragile' is the album you should listen to next. Lots of short pieces on that album, and a couple pieces should be listened to together. I believe you've only heard 'Roundabout' from that album. 'We Have Heaven / South Side of the Sky' kind of go together, along with 'Long Distance Runaround / The Fish'. Maybe check out how JustJP reacted to the pieces on that album. I think he did it right : )
Ok, you’re a Yes fan so you’ve got to listen to a very early one, ‘Everydays’. JP listened and he couldn’t believe what he was hearing. He said it’s now one of his favorite Yes tunes. That’s saying a lot because he’s listened to tons of their best stuff.
I always really liked this one - Steve Howe and Patrick Moraz were over the top - and so "feel good" after the prior two songs on the album. It seems that there is a lot of Yes that you haven't covered. Maybe I am wrong, but I seem to recall that you didn't react to South Side of the Sky or Tempus Fugit yet.
You should tackle "Yessongs" their live album. It's amazing with fabulous versions of the studio songs, some of which are way better than the original.
0:52 Well thank you Daniel, and you're right... without 'me', nothing here would've been possible. I keep pointing that out to 'God', but he keeps ignoring me, for some reason. No clue why 😛
I'd like to see you react to Stevie Wonder's UPRIGHT (Everything's Alright). It was a hit single he had with the legendary Motown Records when he was only 16.
it would have been even more if you did wear a yes t shirt if people wore t shirts by the band or track thare reaction too its called co ordination its what makes great music

With Yes there's always a different element that draws you in whether it be the array of instruments or their harmonious vocals.
Listening to a Yes song is like being captured in a ray of light and sound from Heaven. You leave it calm, energized, hopeful, and ready to spread the positivity. And you can do it over and over, whenever you need it. Bless them! ❤️

Jonathan Jacob Astor was an Astor Dancing Man! 😊
One of my favorite tracks ever. Steve Howe's guitar playing reaches phenomenal levels, and the outro still gives me chills. A brilliant pick by our host. (You've done The Yes Album, CTtE, Tales, and Relayer. Fragile will blow your mind.)
Literally one of my all time fav songs... pure magic. We all feel your mild pain at being thrown off the head-bopping with those crazy offbeats! 😂
Patrick Moraz, admirably replacing at the time the all-time titan, Mr. Wakeman. What an incredible song. Just another one of Yes' "Wonderous Stories". Hint, hint, for about 2 years now... :)
he did a grand job on this album i wish patrick join yes insted of jeff

Steve did an all-instrumental version of this song on his "Natural Timbre" album, which you can hear on YT.

Oh, I also really like Tales too. Just takes time but it is magical.
Sweet and utterly gorgeous song. A perfect album closer too. Thanks Daniel great reaction.
Can't wait to watch this later!! 'Relayer' is kinda my favorite album from 'classic' Yes!!
I’m not usually a fan of ‘non official’ videos on reactions but the imagery on this was beautiful. Glad you’ve got to hear the whole of this fantastic album from the band which was a big part of my teen years in the 70’s. Thanks.

I would have kept Moraz but I think personalities were a big part of that decision.
Don't feel like a 9 minute song. Beautifully oblique.

90125. Repeat. 90125. Mind bending, genre-changing, band changing. YES introducing itself to an entire new generation.

Around the South side of the Sky from Fragile is pretty epic

Danny if you like Yes's drum tracks .... check out Bill Bruford ... "One of a Kind" ........ and keyboards Rick Wakeman "The Six Wives of Henry VIII"
Six Wives by Wakeman is stunningly good.

How did you skip FRAGILE?? Southside of the Sky-Long Distance Runaround-Heart of the Sunrise PLUS a solo song from each member. Go Bruford.
Can't understand what their saying. To many instruments for my taste but enjoy.
