It is intense actually passing a road train for the first time. Especially when you're following the truck at 100ks and you have to do 130km to pass it in a vehicle that struggles to do 120 haha. The best thing you can do is radio the truck and request him to lookout for suitable pass.
@@NovumSB how radio? Or how speed past him? -Radio (UHF or CB) on national highway channel 40 here in Australia, unless otherwise specified. -Speed past, meaning right foot to the floor and pray there's no potholes, kangaroos, camels, cows/bulls or other traffic. The thing to look for passing a road train is the swerving of the last trailer. A minor steering correction in the cab compounds to a tail whip on the back of the road train.
24:40 I've had to detach a trailer before entering a gas station before because I knew there would be no way to get out. I just left the trailer on the road.
As a tractor unit accelerates it tries to pull out from under the trailers. 65 tonnes holding back the tractor all on the king pin. This is above the rear wheels and thus is a pivot point. The wheels want to go forward the fifth wheel wants to stay where it is owing to the massive weight. This causes the front wheels to lift. Look at tractor pulling the front wheels come up. The way to combat it is to have a longer chassis and move the 5th wheel as far forward as possible. Or have twin front steering axles as well.
Wheeeelieeess!! Yeah there is a 4 axle truck 2 steering and 2 drive youd get that in the likes of volvo which is what I have. It might need weights in the front lol and extra grunt and fuel required to power itself
It’s Sunday night, 2 am. I can’t sleep and here I am watching some dude driving a road train carrying 65 tons on a computer simulator based on some weird UA-cam recommendation.. and tomorrow I work at 9
He should have a long line of trailers stretching beyond the horizon along the road all the way to his destination so when he hooks them up he is already there.
The light front end wouldn't be the weight pushing down on the fifth wheel, it'd be the 65T pulling back on the fifth wheel thereby pulling up on the front axle.
Just wanted to say thank you for the ETS videos. You got me in to ETS2 and I love it, you're the champ of simulator UA-cam heaven . I'm just waiting for a better PC so I can play other sim games now. Great videos S!.
The reason the front wheels are lighter than usual is because the drive wheels are underneath the fifth wheel. The drive wheels apply a forward force to the bottom of the truck's chassis, while the loaded trailers (65 t) apply a rearward force to the top of the chassis. These forces cause the chassis to want to rotate upwards, lightening the load on the front axles. It's like if the top of a sailboat's mast hits a bridge. The bridge applies the rearward force against the top of the mast, and the energy carried by the hull at the bottom constitutes the forward force. As such, the entire boat wants to rotate and the front of the boat lifts up. Hopefully that makes sense.
He's well aware of that but he correctly makes the point that only the first trailer produces a downward force onto the fifth wheel, because the second trailer rest on the axles of the first one, not on the fifth wheel and so forth down the line Actually depending on the relative positions of the hitches on the trailers and their axles, the second trailer might even push up the first trailer's front even reducing the downward force on the fifth wheel
That was one hilarious video, between the ai second-guessing their decision to pull out "in front of a train", the gas station stop blocking the road and the trucks spawning in fences and trees, it was perfect!
Nice driving mate, im a truck driver irl and one small tip i can give you is when making a turn thats a bit cheeky for the length of trailer(s) you have hug the outside for as long as you can until either traffic blocks you or you trailer clears corners :) hope it helps
27:50 Squirrel (worried): hang on buddy we got a bit of a road train going on here. 27:54 Squirrel (happy): Hey that worked actually. 27:54 Me (pure laughter): That mood change was soo quick lol.
First truck sim video I've ever watched. Many hilarious moments. That black merc van pulling into the side of you was gold. Great video man. Off to watch some more now.
Squirrel, I discovered your channel thanks to msfs2020, but I have to tell you that I never thought in my life that I would enjoy watching someone play a truck simulator. To be honest, I always thought it was a bit mental someone could play that. And now I want to play. Well done, sir. 👍🏻
when i fill up with huge trailers i detach them on the road then fill up drive back to the road and reattach. i know its illegal but it gets the job done.
It would be so nice if it was possible to make a mod like follow me in fs, so that you could have a car going in front of you and behind you with beacon lights and warning signs!
Well we could be seeing that soon. SCS retweeted an image from Gamescom showing a player having an Oversized Cargo (potentially new DLC) and escort vehicles. Also this was teased on their Christmas video and blog.
As long as the car takes your detours, it would be great it would actually be realististic. at least where I live, they don't allow beacon in my state and you must use escourt car's if your so heavy or so large or long.. the only extra lights your allowed is width lights for night driving. Only emergence or police or offical vehicles of the state can have a blinking beacon on top of there car.
6:57 I don't know much about this game, but I'm a truck driver. That sounds like either a flat tire or bent rim. It's usually on the trailer because the driver does not notice it.
(stopped video at 4:00 to comment) I think that the reason the front feels like it's so light and lifting up etc is because even though all the weight isn't resting on the rear axles of the tractor, the tractor still has to pull that weight, so as those rear wheels fight to pull that weight along, the torsion of all that torque is causing the front end to lift up of the ground. In real life you'd see the front of the truck twisting and lifting upward as the rear wheels fight to move the load.
LOL I can't believed I stayed for the entire video but I had to see what you encountered along the way. Very good video. I can't believe you got out of the gas station unscathed. I honestly didn't think you would make it out. I think if I was doing that, I would have parked the trailers on the side of the main road. got fuel and then connected back to them. The ending was funny. Liked.
Great entertainment vid! However, from someone who has driven class 1 for a living - A) We wouldn't have risked not filling up at the first fuel station - it was obvious that 65 tonnes would chew through the fuel quicker than say 26 tonnes. B) Whenever we need the road space to manouver around obstacles we do not hesitate to use the opposite side of the road, if available, if not, we wait until we have the room to negotiate the obstacle/s. Valiant drive in the quad Squirrel. Having said all this, the largest I have driven in real life is an 18 metre Drawbar.
I'm surprised he never mentioned the other 4 trailers at the drop off point. They were also strung across that really tough fence. :-) I wasn't surprised at the fuel consumption, I drove my car towing my boat from the coast 500Km to home and almost doubled my fuel consumption and it was nowhere near 65 tonnes, it was possibly only 1 tonne.
Is this part of the actual game or is this a mod good video, I love watching you drive and make up solutions for problems I never imagined could be possible. Keep the great work going
Lol a quad in real life would be absolutely impossible because it's impossible to back up into any loading dock unless you unhitched every trailer lol!! Awesome video
Wow, even seeing you in Latvia in ETS is making me proud, im a Latvian, and it was fun to hear you trying to pronounce the city names, haha, great video, keep it up S!
When I go for discoverables, I drop the trailer on the road and leave it there temporarily while I drive past the discoverable with the tractor. Same thing at at hard-to-reach gas stations at 24:45. It's pretty normal for busses to use a bit of the road from the other lanes when turning. Because the wheels are way back beyond the driver, they have a large "Overhang" freely translated from Dutch ;) Being a bus driver for a couple of years, it's something I'm used to, but other drivers don't seem to undertsand a bus really needs this space without cutting the inner corner.
Had a test lesson on a coach beginning of June, it was sooooo weird to enter a roundabout and with the nose of the bus nearly being in the bushes on the center terrain hearing the instructor go "aaaaaand now we start turning fully right" and upon ending up with the nose in the bushes almost on the center dividers hearing "aaaaand now we slowly start turning fully left" :P. And the remark of how upon nearing an overpass that had one of it's support columns right on the right edge of the lane we were driving in "We are going to invade the lane for oncoming traffic just a bit, because we will need to force them to do something with our presence in order for us not to shatter our mirrors on the overpass' support column", was also new and a bit odd, not something you will hear in driving school for the regular car :P .
Imagine driving into a dead end with this
Aldin lmao
You're basically dead on the dead end

Imagine driving this thing on Calais-Duisburg on Europe 2 server. :))

Oh yeah

You could actually collect toll fee with thing being as 4 piece gate.

It's the only way to do so properly.
Halby G in real life?
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing when he fueled up. Detach trailer on road, fuel up, reattach and continue on.
how can you play with it?
i did it in ats a few times and one time i hooked back up and the trailer was at 50% damage from the ai or something

65 tons of shock absorbers. Can't help but just laugh at that!

that would be many shock absorbers :D
It's like those math situations where people buy 64 watermelons and stuff 😂
It's shocking....sorry, couldn't help myself
It would only be 35000 and that is 4 53 foot trailers so it probley do have that many in it
You gotta love the ai in this game. It's so funny and infuriating to watch them try to get around.
I hate ai
I love ur name

65 ton is light for a quad we do that with b doubles here in Australia.
63.5 in Canada, even if you have a 9,100 kg steering axle instead of a 5,500 one.
I’ve heard we can get them up to 6 trailers long.
B double is short.
Is 1 20 foot with 1 40 foot trailer
A road train is 3 to 6 40 foot trailers
Yeah literally! My work has shipping containers that leave on b triples some days and the containers are 32 ton each when they’re full 😂
You do know, long trucks are totally allowed to cut a bit of the roundabouts, right? You don't have to do the full circle, you can go more straight.
Try the 6 trailer version!
do you have a link to it?
It's on the workshop
He is going to cash
He should have a long line of trailers stretching beyond the horizon along the road all the way to his destination so when he hooks them up he is already there.
That would be complete overkill

We are onto Quadruple now?!? Madness.
Solomon Tetteh I surely would've crashed that thing multiple times

How does he get to access these cities? Promods? dlcs?
Wilson Lau Wei Sheng dlc pretty sure
Calle A.R hmm which dlc
The light front end wouldn't be the weight pushing down on the fifth wheel, it'd be the 65T pulling back on the fifth wheel thereby pulling up on the front axle.
Loop all the way around the round about and see if you can hit you're own trailer
That was the jankiest refuel I have ever seen. I loved every second of it.

You're wondering through the woods when you find an abandoned swamp, suddenly you hear running, you turn around to see what it was and then 18:24
The reason the front wheels are lighter than usual is because the drive wheels are underneath the fifth wheel.
