I've had a couple of compatibility issues, which I would expect nowadays, but it still works fine for me and I wouldn't be without my mappable buttons behind my shifter which I use on OMSI 2, Bus Simulator, ETS, ATS and Fernbus. Great review that you've done here, but all I felt by the end was the relief that I'd bought my G27 just in time, one year before it was discontinued.
I’m in exactly the same situation! Got mine in 2014 for GT5 and ETS2, and I’m so happy I did since everywhere you look the G27 is the go-to option everyone praises (specially in Assetto Corsa forums). Now I’m saving to buy myself a Mega Shifter so I can properly play ATS.
Just got the G923, wanted the higher end Logitech model but used for $200 with the shifter it’ll work for me. I’ll be really trucking soon, so the simulator is for practice.
Very nice review. Another good alternative wheel is the Thrustmaster t300 rs gt, 3 pedal, cheaper than the TM Leather, has the similar FFB, changeable rim with 1080 degrees rotation.
I am quite sure that you CAN adjust the pedal spacing on the g920. I took out the rubber in the brake pedal and I am quite sure to remember that when you put the pedals back on, there are three holes behind the pedal to choose from in contrast to having 3 ways to choose by putting more holes in the pedal itself as with the thrustmaster! Unscrew them and see for yourself!
Really appreciate this, thank you. I've been watching gameplay for a few years now and after a long absence from gaming myself ( haven't really touched games since around 2013) I've been finding myself drawn to trucking games in the vein of Mud Runner or Snow Runner, and just generally simulator driving games. So at some point this year I'm looking at investing in a set u;. Had no idea where to begin, so this is very helpful.
The Logitech G27 Shifter works on the G29 and G920, though sadly the buttons on it will not respond and it won't show up in the Driver. It's a nice option to save money if you upgrade from the G27 to the G920 or G29.
Actually there's another option too which I found out about - you can get a USB breakout box for the G27 shifter which lets you plug it directly into the computer. I don't know how much it costs though.

I'm a bit late but this video is absolutely phenomenal great for enforming people, such as myself, on the right choices for sim trucking. Thanks Squirrel
@@cryoraptora303tm2 They're over $300 now thanks to Rona, I managed to find a G27 with the shifter yesterday for $245(only $30 more than the T150). Really the G29 isn't worth what it costs since it's just a rebadged G27, which is still a great wheel if you can find it at a decent price.
I bought a Thrustmaster T150 a couple of years ago, and I'm pleased AF with it. I've upgraded the pedals to T3PA pedals and got a TH8A shifter, and it's great for trucking sims. Buying the wheel and pedals on sale and a used shifter, I got a good setup for a low price. Having 9 buttons and a d-pad on the wheel + a couple on the base, it covers a lot of the need for sim gaming buttons. That turning button on the G29 is very desireable though, I assume it would be great for zoom in/out or adjusting cruise control... I'm making an Arduino button board to mount on my wheel base to increase the immersion, but I wouldn't dare fiddle with things like that on a pricey wheel. Should be a lot of fun making it.

I'm currently using a Thrustmaster T150 Pro setup for ATS with the shifter add on. The wheel has been fantastic and enough buttons to get 90% of what you need programmed. Really the only downside is the force feedback setup is fairly loud I picked up all of my stuff second hand so I am in to it for less than $300. I have no experience with the Logitech, but have been very happy so far with the Thrustmaster
Never seen your channel before, but instant sub. I just watched the first minute, and kept saying to myself. 'This video is F.... brilliant!'. Love the style, really going to enjoy this video.
Sorry, but the G27 is still the best wheel for trucking. I bought mine in 2008 for Omsi (bus simulator) and not long later the TrackIR 5. Both were way more expensive than I normally paid for a wheel. Previous wheels were usually around 100 euro. The G27 had during a sale a price tag of 249 euros. After more than 10 it is still going strong. The only thing that kept breaking on me were the plastic G-clamps. So I bought myself some 25mm thick wooden board. Drilled two (recessed) holes for the bolts that secure the wheel. I also have the SKRS shifter but with plain black top (although I do regret buying the easyjack addon). Next I also the the Thrustmaster Worthhog (I use the pinky level for the handbreak, and the push button near it for the trailer hook), Trustmaster MFD (2nd one I removed) and the CH Products Throttle quadrant. That quadrant has 6 up/down switches which are great for trucking or farming. Still have not setup FS19.. (for some reason it did enable the playstation mode for my PC)..
I have used the G27 for quite a few years now and would not trade it in on the inferior wheels (due to non-included shifter, and higher price) shown in this video. I have used both the newer Logitech wheels shown here and there is little to no operating quality or difference to the G27. They are simply a new skin and button re-arrangement/reduction on the newer versions. Oh, and they shafted G27 owners with the driver software. They could have released new drivers for the G27 but then no one would buy a new wheel would they? Typical of Logitech.
Good informative video. In the context of this, which is trucking, I would recommend the G29 over the G920. It has more buttons. The + and - rocker is great for stuff like light control, or automatic gear suggestion, and the red dial with the enter button in the middle is fantastic to set as your cruise control. the dial to control speed and the enter button to enable and disable it. There times i practically drive the truck with that thing xD since buying my G29 a few years back, I found it a massive upgrade over my DFGT, it may not be the best wheel on the market, but I think for an over all package if you get the the shifter as well it still offers the best value, and everything you need to get the best out of the game. The shifter may not be super high quality but it does the job well enough. But I would still definitely go for one of the TM wheels with the shifter if I had the money.
I just want to thank you for introducing me to sim gaming. I found your channel a long time ago and I love playing ETS2 and ATS. I've just decided to buy a Logitech G920 with a manual shifter. I can't wait to try it out and I'm so glad I've found this channel and discovered this world of gaming. Thank you again Mr. Squirrel, your videos are great, keep it up!

There are wipers, nos, and lights to map..
As a TH8A user 2 small things you forgot to mention: - You have a screw on the side which you can adjust to stiffen or loosen the shaft. (might be useful for some people. i stiffened it as well) - The knob can be screwed off and you can buy different heads/knobs like a longer one, 8 ball, short shifter ect.
about the Thrustmaster shifter : it does 8 speed H pattern, it does sequential with an included faceplate, and it can be setup as an handbrake since it’s hall effect and can be set as a axis
if you have a G27 or even a G25 (like me) you can mode the shifter a little but to make the gates heavier which really improves the feel of the overall shifter
Coming from a Logitech G27, i like my new G29 alot better, for many reason. The button layout on the wheel is better for me than on the shifter on the G27. Makes viewing-angle so much easier with d-pad on the wheel and not the shifter on the G27. The wheel feels better overall and the brake pedal is way better.

I don't do truck sims but i got a brand new g920 off ebay for £200 with the shifter and our works extremely well for forza horizon 4and I'm very happy with my purchase so far =D
Nice video :-) , I have the TMX (not the pro version) and am quite happy with it, however what I miss in all the wheels is a handle for indicators so it's (like in a real car) always in the same place and I can use the flappy pedals for shifting.
I have a PXN V900. This is a pure budget wheel. It comes with 1 pair of peddles, a brake and gas. It has racing shifters. 6 programmable buttons and a d-pad. Force feedback is shaking. Something cool is there is a switch between 270 degrees and 900 degrees.
I know this video is old but you were still wrong regarding the shifters not working with any other wheel, there are USB adapters that you can connect the Logitech shifters into a pc and be able to map them without any issues.
@@tseesium I'm actually looking for a steering wheel, but I don't know whether I want to go with a logitech g920 or a thrustmaster tmx. Thrustmaster tmx is cheaper, but I don't really know if one is better than the other. Could you help me?
@@lukesepter3250 that is actually your choice in the end but as a g29 owner I do recommend tmx first because of the belt driven ffb system, more torque in ffb, more rotation degrees and bit more versatile. G29 is a pain in the ass to connect and reconnect because of the 4 cables
The one downside to a G920 or G29 option shifter is, that it can not be mounted to a small to descent lip of a table. I made a makeshift mounting to be able to play with it. Another to the G920 pedals is that the petals over a period of time will get stuck a bit on the gas pedal if it is pressed *often*.
Bought a complete good condition G27 set for €50 which the seller claimed to have calibration issues. It indeed did not calibrate so i took it apart and found out the small plastic disc of the digital encoder has cracked. Apparently this seems to be a common problem and can be fixed with a 10 cent washer. Gonna fix it up tomorrow and see how it performs :)
I picked up a T500 with steel pedals for £100 on Ebay and have not looked back, bought the TH8A shifter later on, highly recommended if you can find one, much better than any Logitech offering in terms of quality and the big one FFB feel.
I would buy a g27 instead of g29 because 1. Its cheaper 2. It has a shifter already put in original pack 3. It works actually the same like g29 only the design is other and it has a bit more buttons. Also, i'm saying it to pc players cuz obviously you cant use g27 on ps4.
A superbly comprehensive review video, sir! Thanks. My PC setup (small desk, layout in the room and chair) wouldn't really support a full on manual shift setup for ETS2 and ATS, nor would my current budget. However, I make do with my ancient MS Sidewinder Force feedback wheel. IT WORKS!! In Win 7 64 bit Ultimate.. Yes,the wheel's about 16-17 years old and I have lost the power supply (no ff), but the wheel and pedals calibrate perfectly. Talk about reduce, re-use, recycle!! :D The wheel has small paddles on it so I can run sequential gearchange. I have also secured an old XBOX 360 controller on the top of the wheel housing which gives me most of the auxiliary trucking controls hehe. Happy trucking!
Great job man i have recently got into euro truck due to your videos and i also got myself a wheel. i'm looking to upgrade middle of next year and this video has really helped. Good job man keep up the great work.
I've owned the TH8A for a couple years and I've had an overall good experience with it. The only issue I've had with it was it stopped being detected by my PC when I plugged it in. Luckily it was still under warranty at the time so Thrustmaster offered to replace it completely (I would have to send the defective one back first) or they would send me a replacement board that I could swap myself. I elected for the second option and it has been working flawlessly ever since.
Yesterday I found somebody selling a G25 wheel including the pedals and shifter for £50 on facebook, needless to say I immediately bought it and its fantastic. For that price you can't complain.
I use a G25. I bought a broken G25 for £10. 3 years ago off ebay. I fixed it in 20 seconds using my trusty soldering iron and my girlfriend has been using it ever since.
I think about a year ago I bought Euro Truck 2 and the G29 with shifter because of you, Squirrel, and I've had tons of fun! Also tried out Bus sim 2018, and some racing games like Assetto Corsa and Grand Turismo (GT with PSVR is awesome!)
what pisses me off about the logitech wheels is how the shifter got worse over the years the g25 shifter was just like the g27 shifter but also had a sequential and h-pattern mode! then the g27 removed that and now the G920/G29 shifter is just a shifter no extra buttons!
Yep, sorry I am responding for a very old comment, but I am going to do this thing. Arduino, RS232, cables and shifter bought, I am just waiting for the delivery. :D
Search google for Leo Bodnar adapter. £20 for use with G25, 27, 29 or 920. I use to use one of them for my old G25 shifter so I could use my G27 for left hand drive and G25 for right hand drive (and the G25 one has a sequential option too)
The g29 and g920 pedals have a rubber stopper in the break pedal that can be removed with some work. Makes the brake pedal spring weaker but I dont race much so its much more enjoyable like this.

This is probably the best and most comprehensive wheel review + add-ons on YT. This is great.
Very nice review.
Another good alternative wheel is the Thrustmaster t300 rs gt, 3 pedal, cheaper than the TM Leather, has the similar FFB, changeable rim with 1080 degrees rotation.
playing ETS 2 on it, totally worth the cost
But the shifter is very expensive
Look for 2th hand ones. Those things really don't have the tendency to break or wear down.

Maybe I'm a bit late but you're right. I tested it today because I wanted to clean the inside of my G920 pedals.
But is an upgrade from the G27 to G29/920 really worth it? In fact, that these additional buttons don't even work.
Actually there's another option too which I found out about - you can get a USB breakout box for the G27 shifter which lets you plug it directly into the computer. I don't know how much it costs though.

@@computertutorials1286 dude what, i bought my g27 for 80 euros
The pedal spacing can be changed on the g920. You undo the hex screws and move them to the left or right
I bought a Thrustmaster T150 a couple of years ago, and I'm pleased AF with it.
I m in the same boat as you. Playing euro and american truck sim atm xD
Mine is coming tomorrow. I’m so excited!

I'm currently using a Thrustmaster T150 Pro setup for ATS with the shifter add on. The wheel has been fantastic and enough buttons to get 90% of what you need programmed. Really the only downside is the force feedback setup is fairly loud
I picked up all of my stuff second hand so I am in to it for less than $300.
I have a G27 but i have never been able to get a good feel and/or set-up for it.
I've got my G27 for 4 years now, still works, only those plastic clamps broke after like 3 months of use so I replaced them with steel ones
Maybe someone has good wheel set-up i could use?
Realy i am such an ass i have a G25 wheel
Man I haven't watched this legend in a hot minute, glad to be back
Good informative video.
G29 definetly If you play on pc but i got g920 cuz i Also play with Xbox.

i have a thrustmaster T300 alcantara with the TH8A shifter and i've been smashing on it for more than a year now and it all still feels brand new!
As a TH8A user 2 small things you forgot to mention:
- You have a screw on the side which you can adjust to stiffen or loosen the shaft. (might be useful for some people. i stiffened it as well)
- The knob can be screwed off and you can buy different heads/knobs like a longer one, 8 ball, short shifter ect.
its stays almost the same tho
about the Thrustmaster shifter : it does 8 speed H pattern, it does sequential with an included faceplate, and it can be setup as an handbrake since it’s hall effect and can be set as a axis
I've had 2 G27 wheels. Both are a great deal considering the price of them second hand now!
if you have a G27 or even a G25 (like me) you can mode the shifter a little but to make the gates heavier which really improves the feel of the overall shifter

It indeed did not calibrate so i took it apart and found out the small plastic disc of the digital encoder has cracked. Apparently this seems to be a common problem and can be fixed with a 10 cent washer.
Gonna fix it up tomorrow and see how it performs :)

A superbly comprehensive review video, sir! Thanks.
