@@nl3064 fuck no it's incredibly iconic and partly BECAUSE it's based on the Elvis cover. The whole parody in itself exerts so much punk energy. At this point the cover has even transcended the original cover in recognition. The picture of Paul Simonon is easily one of the most iconic pictures of musicians of all time, so much so that the original smashed bass has now been preserved in the museum of London
The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me. Amazing album with incredible art. The band actually persisted on getting that photograph for their album after being rejected multiple times by the photographer. He eventually gave in and said that if they wanted it that bad, then they must be really passionate about it. I think the photographer gave the album a listen before finally agreeing to let it be the album art. The only requirement was that there could be no text covering the image.
Pet Sounds was unfortunately released just before album covers started being treated as a form of art. I believe if it had been released a year or two later, it would have had a truly iconic cover.
@@SirAnthonyChirpsALot The Beatles are one of my favorite bands but I don't love their pre-Rubber Soul albums as much as their later albums. So, at first I was skeptical of your claim about the cover of With the Beatles, but I did some research into it. I do have to admit that more thought and effort was put into its design than I had assumed. Though I think it was still only somewhat of an outlier at the time it was released. It still fit into the norm of album covers in the early 60's just being a simple photo of the band members, even if it was edited in a certain way. I think Revolver's cover is what really lit the spark for album covers to have more creative designs.
Rubber Soul, was an outtake photo that was distorted, immediately upon seeing that particular photo all four said "that's it" and it is. Artistic, iconic, and intimate, the distorted images foretold the emerging psychedelic influence.
Illmatic is pretty iconic too. The way kid Nas is transparent and looking at you frowning, while the background is the streets of New York. It kinda shows how Nas' life is a reflection of his environment.
i feel like nobody who was behind those album covers did actually thought as much about them as this analysis, I bet they were more like “yeah this looks cool for the cover” xD
Ik I’m late but this video now more then ever has been very interesting and influential to me, recently(since last year) I started listening to albums based off of the cover and how much I liked it without having listened to any of the artists prior music to base it off, 4 albums that encapsulates that perfectly were liquid swords by Gza, atrocity exhibition by Danny brown, random access memories by daft punk and kid a by Radiohead. I had no idea whether or not I’d like these albums but I chose to listen to them anyway just based off how much I liked the covers and I think that shows the power of album artwork.
I think a great album cover that exemplifies an album in a great way is Under pressure from logic. I think it Shows how he’s the one that people he grew up with look up too. People he grew up with are proud to say that they knew him as a kid.
Is nobody gonna mention “Crisis! What Crisis?” By Supertramp? Not only is the actual songs in it amazing but the album cover is also fantastic. For those who don’t know it’s a man in swimming shorts and sunglasses sitting on an orange and white chair under an umbrella of the same colour. That small segment is the only part of the album cover with actual colours. Meanwhile behind this relaxed man is a breaking down almost dystopian city of factory’s and other not great things. Not only does this correlate to the title but also reflects the denial of plenty of governments of modern day growing problems. It mirrors politicians and governments living in their own little paradise unaware of the “crisis” behind them or more in denial of the crisis. It’s a great album cover that conveys a message that still holds up today.

@@Sabbathfaax That's what I'm saying, it's not "iconic", it's not even it's own thing - it's an imitation/parody/homage/copy/ape/lampoon whatever. And it's not anymore known than any other common average cover picture.
Weyes blood's TITANIC RISING has an AMAZING artcover
The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me. Amazing album with incredible art. The band actually persisted on getting that photograph for their album after being rejected multiple times by the photographer. He eventually gave in and said that if they wanted it that bad, then they must be really passionate about it. I think the photographer gave the album a listen before finally agreeing to let it be the album art. The only requirement was that there could be no text covering the image.
Good album cover but I really like deja entendu's cover as well... Maybe a little bit more
That album cover has alway stuck with me. It’s incredible Imo and sets the tone perfectly for the record
Justices Cross is Crazy, the best way to describe the feeling it gives me is if I died that is all that I will see for the rest of eternity.
I think taboo could fit perfectly in the identity category especially considering the themes of the album
Pet Sounds was unfortunately released just before album covers started being treated as a form of art. I believe if it had been released a year or two later, it would have had a truly iconic cover.
I don’t know. “With the Beatles” already put a lot of creativity and sharp design into an album cover
Bruh The Thriller album cover is the most iconic tbh
Pac‘s all eyez on me cover is legendary
Roger Dean is probably the greatest album cover artist of all time.
Dark side of the moon and st. Pappers album covers are irreplaceable.. They are just perfect ❤❤
i feel like nobody who was behind those album covers did actually thought as much about them as this analysis, I bet they were more like “yeah this looks cool for the cover” xD
Isn't the Elvis Presley album visual theme just a Sony Music thing? London Calling by the Clash has the same layout.
I think a great album cover that exemplifies an album in a great way is Under pressure from logic. I think it Shows how he’s the one that people he grew up with look up too. People he grew up with are proud to say that they knew him as a kid.
“American Idiot for Boomers.” Is the best thing I have ever heard.
so we’re just gonna forget the demon days cover?
Of course not
yes
The flower boy cover. Theres just something about it that captures the essence of the contents of the album perfectly
Honestly I feel like “1984” by Van Halen is one of the most iconic album covers ever but don’t see anyone talk about it.
I know London Calling was inspired by Elvis Presley but London Calling with Paul Simonon smashing his bass is the greatest album cover and one of the greatest albums of all time
To pimp a butterfly has a pretty lit album cover because it conveys what the albums theme is. Being black in America
I'm so happy you finally got sponsored 💕 but this was a really great video dude! Also that's really cool Fiver reached out to their artists on their platform like that.
Loveless by My Bloody Valentine has one of my favorite album covers, and it's incredibly memorable to people who are into shoegaze. It looks like a physical manifestation of the songs on the album.
My favorite album covers ever are Dookie by Green Day, Insomniac by Green Day and Famous Monsters by the Misfits
I'm wearing a shirt with the dookie album cover right now lol
i love dookie
thriller is by far the most iconic, so simple, yet so complex
A dude on his side?
@@mockupguy3577 a dude named Michael Jackson on his side
@@mockupguy3577 Facts, I'm an MJ megafan but I agree that there was nothing special about the 'Thriller' cover. You must admit though that the Dangerous cover was outstanding.
Thriller should have that one poster with MJ in his red jacket, surrounded by zombies.
But, the video was made almost 6 months after the album came out so...
Kinda like how BAD did it as the Bad Music Video was filming before the album's release.
I love the Meliora cover. It's so gorgeous and there are many different covers within than one cover. It's so gosh darn cool.
yes, just saw it
I know the cover gor Thriller doesn't really have any of these but so think it deserves to be in here considering it's the world's most famous album, therefore the most iconic
Someone should make each album a piece of an image. So when they make their final album it all connects into one big picture.
"Melodrama" album cover is a piece of art
You make a great point here. Thank you for sharing this because not only is it interesting but it's also useful.
