2 fun facts about the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) 1. One of their most popular songs, Evil Woman, was a filler that was written in 15 minutes 2. They have the most top 40 hits in the US while not having a number 1 hit
"Motörhead" by Hawkwind, was the first rock song to include the word "Paralellogram" in its lyrics. and "Motörhead" was the last song that Lemmy wrote for Hawkwind before getting kick out of the band. Police fun fact that a lot of people might already know: In the beginning measures of Roxanne you can hear a weird bit of piano followed by laughter. Sting sat down on the piano thinking it was closed before playing those first bass notes.
Oh also on the Iommi fact, the reason guitars in metal is downtuned is because it was too painful for him to do typical tuning so he downtuned his guitar so it didn’t hurt as bad on his fingers. Now downtuning is a standard of metal as a result.
Continuing with the “In-a-gadda-da-vida” facts, the song-well over 11 minutes-was originally supposed to be a short 60s rock song similar to the common length of music then, but while the band, Iron Butterfly, was in the studio messing around, one of the production assistants (I believe when the producer was out of the studio) started recording them because they thought it sounded really good, and then it became the entire “B” side of their album with the same name, as well as one of the most popular psychedelic rock songs of the 1960s.
I also read that the lead singer was drunk or high off drugs and the song was supposed to be called "In the garden of Eden" but he was high he accidently messed up
Addition to the smells like teen spirit part: the people who spray painted the phrase were Kurt’s Girlfriend at the time, Tobi Vail and her band mate, Kathleen Hanna. The band the women were in was Bikini Kill, the band that coined the rrr in riot grrrl and one of the most successful and popular bands in that genre.
the sex pistols were a manufactured boy band put together by Malcolm McLaren based on what they looked like not their musical ability. Jimi Hendrix only had one song make it into the Billboard top 40 in the US making him (technically) a one hit wonder and it wasn't even one of his songs, it was a cover of Bob Dylan's all along the watchtower
@Jovial Audio Wow, that’s another classic. Love the bassline and soothing feeling in that song. Give me the night by George Benson is another absolute beast
Extra Trivia! Brian May from Queen built the guitar that he uses to this day when he was a teenager with his father. They carved the wood from an old mantle piece and used parts from an old motor bike in it. The whammy bar was one of his mother's knitting needles. Oh, and Brian also has a PhD in astrophysics and was one of the people who assisted NASA with getting a probe to Pluto as part of the New Horizons project.
Martha Wash of the Weather Girls is the one that sings "Everybody Dance Now" on C&C Music Factory's "Gonna Make You Sweat." She wasn't credited, and in the video they used a skinny young woman (Martha is overweight), so she sued and won, leading legislation to be passed regarding crediting singers for their appearances.
7:10 EXTRA fun fact: The friend who wrote "Kurt smells like teen spirit" was actually Kathleen Hanna, lead singer of both riot grrrl bands Bikini Kill and Le Tigre
Fun fact: their country album “12 golden country greats” have only 10 songs and during the song ‘The Mollusk’ only one out of the three things that spur the mollusk from the sand are listed.

One of the rappers of 90s alternative hip hop trio Digable Planets ("Rebirth of Slick") is Lil Tracy's dad. Also Indian sitar virtuoso Ravi Shankar who has worked closely with The Beatles' George Harrison is Norah Jones' dad. Stevie Wonder played almost all the instruments on his albums, including drums despite being blind. Sting sings background vocals on Dire Straits' "Money for nothing". Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers played the bass line on Young MC's "Bust a move" and Kerry King from Slayer played the guitar solo on "No Sleep til Brooklyn" by the Beastie Boys. Sinead O'Connors hit "Nothing Compares 2 U", the Bangles' "Manic Monday", Alicia Keys' "How come you don’t call me anymore" and Chaka Khan's "I feel for you" were all written by Prince.
Extra Trivia! Lenny Kravitz wrote the song 'Johnny Cash'. The song contains odd lyrics if you don't know the story behind it. 'Hold me like Johnny Cash. Whisper in my ear like June Carter...' Lenny was driving when he received word that his mother had died. Not trusting himself to keep driving he stopped at a recording studio he was familiar with and broke down inside. Johnny Cash and his wife June Carter-Cash were leaving when they saw Lenny sobbing. After finding out what happened Johnny firmly embraced him and began praying. June was whispering encouraging things in his ear. They stayed with him for some time like this and Lenny has never forgotten the kindness they showed him in this moment.
Extra Trivia! The band ZZ Top got their start pretending the be the band The Zombies. The song Time of the Season had just become a massive hit in the US and people were wanting to hear them live. The thing is that The Zombies were an English band and had broken up so no tours. A promoter, realizing that there was money to be had, hired, not one but two groups to portray themselves as the Zombies to US crowds. He later tried the same thing with the Animals but the lead singer of that band went to a concert with a bunch of Hell's Angels and chased them off of the stage in the middle of a concert.

Some fun Queen facts cuz I’m ✨a bit✨of a fan: Queen’s music has spent over 26 years on the UK album charts, and they are the only band ever to have each member compose a #1 hit. Brian May, their guitarist, is not only an amazing musician, but also an astrophysicist. He also holds a title as a Commander of the British Empire. Freddie Mercury and Brian May grew up in the same town, but never met each other before forming Queen. Roger Taylor (their drummer) once got mad during an argument and threw a TV at someone’s head. Fortunately, the TV missed its target and flew out the window without injuring anybody. When working on “Under Pressure” with David Bowie, John Deacon (Queen’s bassist) composed the bassline and then went out to get some food and a drink. While out, he forgot the bassline and the rest of the band had to help him remember it. “Bohemian Rhapsody” was originally 3 songs that Freddie was working on separately before deciding to put them all together. While in the process of creating the song, Freddie didn’t have a name for it so it was just called “Freddie’s Cowboy Song”. Roger once locked himself in a cupboard for several hours until the rest of the band agreed to release his song “I’m In Love With My Car” as the B-side to Bohemian Rhapsody. The band’s record label refused to release Bohemian Rhapsody as the lead single for their album “A Night at the Opera” because it was “too long”. Freddie took it to a radio station operator who played it a total of 12 times over 2 days, and that’s how it got so popular. The saying “ready Freddie?” comes from Queen’s song “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”, an Elvis tribute that Freddie wrote in ten minutes while taking a bath in his hotel room in Munich. When the band heard that Bohemian Rhapsody had hit #1, they were stuck in an elevator because Freddie liked to push all the buttons and would always panic when the lift stopped. Queen’s song “The Show Must Go On” is one of their most vocally challenging songs. When the band went to record it, Freddie was so ill with aids that Brian thought he couldn’t do it. Freddie slammed some vodka, said “I’ll f*cking do it, darling” and recorded in one take.🥰 thx for coming to my Ted-talk 😂🤪

Huey Lewis played harmonica with Thin Lizzy on their Live & Dangerous tour
Ritchie Blackmore was once licensed as a wandering minstrel in New York State
4:54 Shel Silverstein also wrote "Cover of the Rolling Stone" by Dr. Hook.
Speaking of which, that song actually DID get them on the cover of the Rolling Stone, but it was a caricature of the band (as opposed to a photograph).
"Tartini's dream later became the inspiration for 'The Devil Went Down to Georgia'. True story". - Barney Stinson
This is one of coolest music related videos
Man, I arrive here 7 months after the video release...
*Just after Daft Punk's break up.*
Been wanting to get back into music since ive gotten my life and depression in check. And this is the channel ive been needing. Liked subbed and will do so for all vids I remember it on. Lol
Edit. Rip darrrell.
Late anecdote I have, but...
Another musician, as far as I'm aware, is living off of the royalties of one song. Patrick, a french musician, sang "Born to be Alive", a disco hit which still allows him to live confortably to this day due to his common usage
Patrick Hernandez is also known for having launched Madonna's career, as she was one of his dancers.
That Iron Butterfly song is the sample for Hip Hop is Dead by Nas
It was Paul that say f***ing h*ll towards the end of the song Hey Jude after he played a wrong note on the piano. It was John that said they should leave it in the recording.
Actually, Foo Fighters first album wasn't made as Dave's way to cope because the album demos were done by in 1992-1993 before Kurt died. He actually listened to it and if my i remember correctly even said that they were pretty cool and he should record them. Then in 1994 after his death recording it may have indeed been a way for Dave to cope or to try to "move-on"
Tom was probably just so happy that someone actually asked to source his material. Alot of people have no respect when it comes to plagiarism
06:00 I'm sorry for this, but to be accurate: Lana didn't even finish her degree and it wasn't a degree on Metaphysics either, it was a degree on Philosophy . Her discography wrote part or most of her biography.
Actually Elvis did indeed have songwriting credits on a few of his songs. Technically cowriting, but still has the credits as a writer.
26 - too funny! 27 - I always thought that sounded like Michael but didn't know he sang backup on that song.
#31.5 - Though Blur may not have had a lot of success in the U.S., the front man went on to found The Gorillaz.
#39 is a really creative way of conducting QC
Correction: Dolly Parton had the two songs in the same tape for the span of one week. She told in an interview in GMA that she was not entirely sure, but they are in the same week in the same recording tape she used.
"Please give my regards to Mr. Chains, or may I call him 2?"
XD
7:33 45 personally not a fan of that song but it’s so great to hear that everyone got a fair share from that effort…! 😊
Please do more of these, this video was great!
Wow that mayhem thing is a rabbit hole
The part about the dream is funny because it reminded me of the devil went down to Georgia
That 2 chains fact at the end was PRICELESS and made my mornimg..
2:59 I'm pretty sure Lil Wayne was 17 when he released his #1 album The Block Is Hot
#50 is priceless! That’s a long way to wait for a crack line regarding a joke song about dope; but all involved are Dope AF G’s in my book!
#11 not true
Elvis has a single co-writing credit ("Heartbreak Hotel")
Doesn't necessarily mean he actually co-wrote it though
Shel Silverstein also wrote “Sylvia’s Mother” by Dr. Hook. Apparently, it happened to him. Sylvia’s mother says it didn’t, or at least not how he said.🤷♀️
