i beat this as a kid, it's not that hard, just needs few hours for an amateur. i kept digging lower and lower just like in the video because deeper grounds had more expensive stones :)
"expensive stones" should be replaced with "valuable stones" I think that makes it better, good otherwise.

My friend and I would play this but we thought it was just a mining game and would generate indefinitely. I jokingly kept telling him "eventually you drill down into hell and satan waits for you" I kept telling him that as a joke, then we break that final layer and satan springs out of nowhere we instantly look at each other like wtf?!?!? hilarious

I just noticed that Steamworld Dig literally copied the entire mining thing from this game, down to the ore names
I didn't even know this, I thought this was going to be a run to like all max gear and bottom of the world, I've played this game and reached with bottom and maxed out gear, never once knew there was a boss.
This game shows that any problem can be solved with enough application of explosives. Yes, even evil fallen gods such as Satan.

Dig-N-Rig is a pretty fun one. It's not as old and it's a different style of game, but if you like diggin down to find treasures on another world, selling your finds and upgradin tech, it's enjoyable.
I said it's on another world. Turns out it's set on Earth in 2032. I hadn't played the game since it's release.
Not like that is a big deal, getting the world wrong on a game like this, just wanted to clarify.

This game, and the fancy pants trilogy entertained me for hours back in 2010-2012. I put so much time into these flash games its ridiculous. Thank you youtube, this was a good reminder of how much fun these simple games were.

Holy shit this game creeped me the fuck out. This was so nostalgic for me.
I think what's really incredible is the fact that it plays the same loop of music over and over throughout the entire game, and yet, I don't get tired of it.
i used to play this game when i was a kid. I remember i played it for days and one day... one day my friends i reached the bottom and fell to the boss chamber. I tell you guys, this was one of the most terrifying moments i have ever experienced. I cant forget the terror flowing up and down my spine because it was completely unexpected, almost had a heart attack, jesus. Best childhood game though, nostalgia is strong...

There are gas pockets and it's much faster than drilling. Gas pockets basically kill you when you hit one. Not nice.

I read thay gas pockets appear rarely from 4700 forward and become common from 5000 and forward. They look like regular dirt so theres no way to recognize them before hitting them. You need 100,000 hull upgrade and 100,000 radiator upgrade to survive them safely. Might be enough to only need 50,000 one of them idk dont risk it :D

When I was a kid I would play this for hours on end and never made it to the bottom. After seeing the first 4 minutes of this I decided to try again and was down there in under an hour. I never realized there was a bottom until today.
I decided to not bother with beating the boss though, I got annoyed that it doesn't allow mid-air explosives, and many times when I try to use them, the boss bounces me up a tiny bit so it doesn't let me.

I remember in highschool I would play this game during my buisness class and my study hall. A combined 1 to 1:30 hours of game time a day. 45 minutes per class. Give or take a few minutes for starting up school pc and shutting down for the end of class probably leaves me with an hour of game time each day. I beat it in three days. It was such a great time waster for my two time wasting periods. I had litterally gotten hooked on this game and remember beating it a few times in a single period, which was roughly 30-35 minutes of play time. Of course I didnt think of this as a speed run or anything. I was just bored in class and this was my favourite time wasting game lol. I wonder what I could do now if i played this game again.

I remember that when I played this, my main concern was navigating to XGen's own website to continue going down. I was very worried that the save function did not work, and considered sending a message to XGen asking them to mend their game, however I couldn't since I had not learned English yet.

You need dynamites to break the rocks for smooth travel back down. Saves quite a bit of time.
Lmao had a game a couple days ago that was a minute+ ahead of this record with the 20k drill right away. You can get away with the 2k fuel, 20k drill, 2 teles, 5 fuels, and the rest on dynamites.

Sometimes I die from health when you get wall glitch combined with a bad Q teleport. I have learned to obsessively push to the right as you first go in the hole so as to avoid the wall glitch.

Huh, I didn't know that was even in the game. I always died long before I got close to there due usually to either hitting one of those damned gas pockets or running out of gas. Interesting to finally learn what the endgame of Motherload was.

Wow, there's still interest in this game? It came out so long ago haha. Those that are a fan of Motherload, what are your opinions about a similar game but focused around asteroid mining? Still 2D and with more focus on the fun arcade action of this game than realism. It would allow for more freedom of movement than being locked in the grid. It would also allow contractors to invest in larger and more powerful equipment to add to their operation, visit trade stations around the solar system, and build your own space station and processing facilities.
