Thanks for the tips. Never though of mashing it up to make it looks thicker. Cooked this in the 60s and was told by my later mother to place a porcelain spoon in the pot to mash the beans while cooking. You mentioned 3 ingredients in the beginning. It should be 4 at least - you need water as well. Also in my old days, we add some rice to the pot from the start to have the dessert looks thicker too. Adding coconut cream is always my favorite but unfortunately this is bad for high cholesterol.
I followed your instruction and the soup turned out really nice and creamy. Only I didn't scrap the tangerine. I felt it was a waste of my very old tangerine peels. The bitterness is not noticeable, or at least, it suited my taste buds. Thank you once again.
I use low to medium heat throughout. There is a blog post for this video with more information. You can check it out here tasteasianfood.com/red-bean-soup/
I make this in UK occasionally ; I soak beans overnight, and use brown sugar, sugar that comes in small bars from Chinese super markets. Tangerine peels are home dried and Saved after eating the fruit.
Either, you can put an orange, cook about an hour, take it out, just for flovour.. When the beans is totally break, add sugarcane-sugar cubes, more aroma, then sagu (sago)..
Unfortunately, there isn't. Just like vanilla, you can't substitute it with something else. However, you can use good quality pandan leaves extract. If you can't get it, please omit it. It will not make a huge difference.
I've never seen any beans that have sugar. In USA, we eat great northern, navy, pinto, etc. We usually serve with a cut-up mild onion, & a big piece of cornbread. Always savory. I may try this recipe. Have a nice weekend. 👍👍👍
Can you tell me please if the 'red beans' that you use are what we in the U.K. might call 'kidney beans'? I would like to try making this as I'm curious as to how it can be a dessert! I don't want to make a mistake and maybe use the wrong beans though.
Otama, Queen and Big Mom brought me here

Haha same, had it a long time ago, very nice, want to make it myself.
Lol😂😂
From watching a One Piece hentai or did you get yourself off to the official show?
ok but that bean freezer tip was the definition of big brain energy
Brilliant idea to freeze the red beans overnight. I have a problem boiling the beans for so long, still can't turn soft. Thank you.
Also, only add sugar last minute. It is hard to turn soft if you add sugar during the early stages.
Soak overnight (before bedtime) next morning you are ready to cook. Easy and less cooking time.
Very clear and details thank you for the recipes ❤
thanks for sharing....im doing it right now
Very detailed recipe. I will try it one day. Thank you KP.
You're welcome

Thank you for the tutorial. I tried to cook the same way without the citric skin. I put a little bit of corn starch to make it thicker. It is yummy.
You can also add sagu (sago)
that's the trick, put in starch to make it into a glue starch. 🥰🥰
I'm making this dessert right now and i found your video,..thanks...😊🙏
Thanks for referring to my recipe. Have a great time.
Thank you,..it's very delicious and warm in winter...

If there are no pandan leaves, can you substitute the green part of the leek?
Pandan leaves have a unique flavor and cannot be substituted. You can omit if it is not available.
Can u explain use high heat or low heat when boiled it for 1 hour?? And lastly 20 minutes using low heat or medium heat?
I use low to medium heat throughout. There is a blog post for this video with more information. You can check it out here tasteasianfood.com/red-bean-soup/
Is sago tapioka or real sagu? Thank you.
What is the sweetest bean?

Yeah, it is hard to get tangerine peels.

Hi, I dont have any rock sugar but I do have brown sugar, how much would you recommend to use?
You csn use brown sugar, same quantity.
Queen!
What if we don't get dry tangerine peels in my city? Any alternative?
There is no substitute for it. Fortunately, you can omit it, and it will still be tasty.
thank you sir great video :)
Can we use maltose in place of rock sugar?
I suggest using regular white sugar instead.
Is there a substitute for Pandan Leaves?
Unfortunately, there isn't. Just like vanilla, you can't substitute it with something else. However, you can use good quality pandan leaves extract. If you can't get it, please omit it. It will not make a huge difference.
@@TasteofAsianFood Thanks, good to know.

I've seen many recipes call for pandan leaves. I'd really like to know what they taste like.

It's too enjoyable as a meal so its reference of being a dessert is on the menu.
Hello may I know where are you from
Malaysia
Awesome thank you!
May I know why my red bean soup is bitter after boiling?
It never happened to me before. I will update and mention this problem in my recipe if I know the reason.
Discard the water after the 1st and 2nd boil. Only then can you rid off the bitterness. This was taught by the Japanese while making azuki bean paste,
how come the beans ive been boiling for 2hrs but still hard :-/ i soaked them in water overnight but did not freeze...
I've never seen any beans that have sugar.
In USA, we eat great northern, navy, pinto, etc. We usually serve with a cut-up mild onion, & a big piece of cornbread.
Always savory. I may try this recipe. Have a nice weekend. 👍👍👍
Thanks. It's also call Azuki beans (Japanese word). Hope you are able to get it from the grocery store.
You can find it on the menu in Chinese restaurants if you have any in the area you live in. This is more of a dessert item
Legend has it that if you spill and waste read bean soup, a rubber-man and a green-haired swordsman will rip you apart.
Are red beans the same as kidney beans?
Red beans are smaller than kidney beans and are round.
adzuki beans are used here
How come my red beans doesn't get soft after cooking for long time?
Many reasons. One of them is adding sugar too early. Always add sugar when it's nearly done.
Soak the beans overnight, forget about freezing or 3 hrs soak.
one piece brought me hereee!!

It is not. These beans are slightly smaller than kidney bean, and round. Also called Azuki beans.

You can skip it. It is not a must, but it does enhance the flavor.
