I refinished this vintage homemade dresser that my neighbor gave me to give it a modern painted and stained makeover. I ran into a few refinishing problems but I hope it helps others learn from my mistakes.

What a fresh makeover! Goodbye orange oak!! Nice job, Ryan!
I like the finished result. It definitely updated the dresser.
Have missed you so much. Glad you will be posting more frequently. This piece turned out awesome . Glad you did the base it really completed the piece.
Thank you for showing all of your work even when it's not perfect.
I would love to see a video on how to care for the waste after stripping and how to care for the rags after staining. 😁 The dresser is beautiful!
That is different in different areas! You need to check waste disposal in your area.
I would like to see this too as usually there are only a few times throughput the year to dispose of the waste. How can the rags and stripper waste be safely stored so as not to be a fire hazard.
It was the ...
to keep the stopper off my WOOD
For ME. 🤣🤣
Glad to see you're back! Looking forward to watching this one. Love your channel! Barry
Great video for us learners who enjoy learning about painting furniture. You are a great teacher sir. Keep videos coming. Please and thanks. Kindly Flippa
Wow, I admire your dedication for doing this job so well. It turned out so cool!!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
That piece turned out simply elegant! Welcome back!
Great Toasty teamwork It was definitely worth stripping and staining the bottom, it looks a million dollars. The actual paint stripping with the tape looked so satisfying, shame the tape didn't work though.

Beautiful piece!
Trials and tribulations of the perfectionist!
As ALWAYS, you did a "BANG UP JOB"!!!! I'm NOT CRAZY about the style, but it looked AMAZING after you finished!!!!
The two toned look is gorgeous! Great to see you on here again!
Really nice to see you back. Even though it was a bit more work, it was the right move to stain the base. This special piece turned out GREAT! I was wondering throughout the video if we were going to see your funny 🧦and sure enough we did....LOL! Enjoy the rest of your day!
This piece is so pretty now and I wish you lived close to me because I have a couple pieces I would love you to redo. By the way, loved the cute little smiley face you did when you were done sanding the drawer handles. Cute touch.
Just starting out and you are my absolute favorite! Thank you for the inspiration
Excellent job. Worth the wait. Lots of valuable information too.
Do you have an Amazon wishlist? I think you need one of those handles for easier use of spray cans! It was a game changer for me! I no longer avoid the spray can aisle.
Toasty did a fantastic job as usual! 😉😉🤣🤣🤣☺
Looks good!!
You have lots of patience with your projects! They're so nice!!
Looks very nice! I like the way you stained and painted it.
Hello from South Africa Ryan, great to see you.
You turned this into a stylish chest of drawers! I really like your decision to stain the bottom. A big pain I’m sure, but worth it. I learned several helpful tips from you today. Great to see you back.🌸
Looks amazing and the base looks great stained 👍🏼
Stunning job Samuel. .. always enjoy your videos and. Happy to hear you're gonna do more videos..stay blessed 🥰👍
I would really like you to experiment with Unicorn Spit. It would be cool to see what u can do with it.
Very, very nice.
I really enjoy learning from watching you. This piece is amazing and you made the right choice with staining the bottom even with the extra work.
Lots of good tips in this one Shab. So moral of the story is to get all your showing wood done then tape it off, then paint. This is exactly what would have happen for me, in fact I would be sure to splash the stain on the paint. You don't read comments usually but is that top mahogany? Somebody did a great job building that, now it looks like you bought it from some high end place.
Also hard to believe you got such a good level poly coating with a sponge, I mean Toasty. Sorry Toasty.
No lewd or crude remarks from me today, just hope your other stripping gig is going good.
Really enjoyed this. You are super unique in the space. Thank you for sharing!!
Lovely work, it is beautiful. Great job. Peace and good fortune and good health to you and your family. 😃
caught that smiley face 😊
Love, love LOVE this.
Wow!!! Ur an expert! God bless those hands of yours.
Thank you for all the great tips! Especially going into detail on the base stripping...I’m continually struggling with it. Love the tip on cleaning stain on paint and will be trying the wet sponge on technique with water based Polyacrylic
I love it! The gloss paint really did make it more modern, though if you just stained the whole piece, it would’ve still been beautiful! You really couldn’t go wrong either way. Thanks for the video! ❤️
I was sad to see it painted after seeing how well the top looked stained. But you have to do what sells in the area. It looks really nice with both the top, bottom and handles stained though.
Turned out amazing! Awesome job!🤗
Love it. Great job. I look forward to more of your pieces
You always do a fantastic job.
Thank you for this very interesting and informative video. The dresser turned out really well.
Great job! You are a true artist! ❤
It came out beautiful. Good job.👍
It's beautiful. Love the stain. Love the base on it. Haven't seen that short of legs on a dresser before and I think it's just gorgeous.
So beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful as always!
Glad you are back this beautiful piece
I love this piece! You've made it beautiful and it is just my style!!

Nice job! 👍🏻
Wonderful job!! I know it was extra work but loved that you stained the bottom.
Awesome piece! Have you ever built new bases for furniture? Can you show this please
Great job Ryan! Glad to see you again!
That turned out beautifully
I love this project!!! I learned so much. I am a beginner at this restoring process and really enjoy myself.❤️
Great job, love it
Great job. Very upbeat and modern looking!
That was spectacular! Geez you have a good eye!
You get better & better! Awesome
Looks great! Pardon my absence, I've been in a medical induced coma from eating too much maple syrup.
Finally! 😉
Watching from Italy 🇮🇹
Learning more about painting. Thanks 😍
quite the improvement, great job.
Wow. INCREDIBLE!
Great Job!! You’re definitely right about the base...it just made it perfect❤️
Glad to see a new video!! Love the piece.
Gorgeous restoration! The base was worth redoing in the wood stain! (Easy for me to say, ha ha). I was surprised you’d use a polyurethane over white paint. I’d be concerned it would yellow but it must have been water based poly?
For me, water based polyurethane doesn’t yellow like spar or oil base!
Looks great!!
Beautiful!
Wicked beautiful job!!
It looks fantastic
Only seeing this now. YT didn't notify me goddarn them (shakes fist) grrrrr. Turned off and on notifications now so hopefully it's sorted. Now back to the video.

Love it
Love it…
Nice job
Parabéns, Ficou lindo!
Very nice
Gosh the top came out so well I wonder what the rest of the dresser would have looked like if you had stained the hole thing!?
You do a beautiful job
Love the results!! Where did you get toasty?
Thank you for all of your extremely helpful information!!! I appreciate you sharing! But can you tell me which Valspar paint you used to paint your project. (Furniture, furniture and cabinet...?) Thank you in advance!!!!!
I like the way that base matched up with the top. There's another furniture flipper on here a woman who makes a lot of bases to modern up a piece. It is pretty easy to do and looks great. I wish I could remember which channel it was so you could check it out.
Did you show the neighbor how the piece turned out?
I think you're referring to DIY Wife.
I am unable to show the piece to my neighbor. He passed away and was given his furniture by his daughter.
Tha is for watching!
@@ThatShabbyGuy yes I do believe that's the one those legs really help a lot of dated pieces.
Yeah the dad had made the dresser I wonder if she ever saw what you did with it and maybe wanted to buy it after it's transformation.
Good to see you're doing well you have one of the best channels on here. You are very clear about your processes and why you do them. And without crappy music blasting in the background.
I tried contacting her after it was done and never heard back from her. :( When he passed away the remaining siblings sold the house to an investor and haven't heard from them sense. This chest now sits in a very nice home in downtown Dallas, Tx and I passed the history of the piece on to the new owner. She was very appreciative of the work put into it and its backstory. So maybe it will continue as it is passed on. :) Good to hear from you again. Thanks for checking in!
@@ThatShabbyGuy very cool I've gotten furniture that has had typewritten or hand-written stories of the piece on an underside or back out of the way place before.
When you think about it furniture especially really old furniture has seen so many people pass by been a part of lives ect. It's kind of fun imagining who may have owned it where it was all those kind of things.
So many items outlast us and have had previous owners.
Nice
When you use your paint sprayer what Respirator do you usually use?
❤
Beautiful did your neighbor see the finished dresser?
😊😊😊 gênio ficou lindo Abraços 👏👏👏👏 parabéns Brasil 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷.
