    By far, you’re my favorite YT channel Bradwynn. Watts should be cutting you a check for spreading this wealth of knowledge. Must say that your Wake and Draw series is favored over the live stream. You have a total ASMR voice best heard w/o the robot voice chiming in. But whatever format you run with, THANK YOU for your generosity, humor and talent!

    I'm drawing along with this video, and I feel like I've leveled up my portrait skills a couple of times already. I've been drawing for like 45 years, so that's saying something. Just picked up your Mechanics of Drawing course. Excited to dive in!

    I learned a lot watching you draw. For one thing, I tend to make my art too balanced rather than allow each ear to be different than the other ear, or each eye to differ from the other eye. Thanks. Great skill.

    I was once asked by an art professor to change my painting to look LESS like the model. He said the nude model said she took the job because she didn’t think she would be recognized 😅. Anatomical Drawing was my favorite subject when I was working on my BFA. We studied the skeletal structure and muscular structure and our final exam was drawing from a live model and then doing overlays-one of the model’s skeleton and then of the muscles. I’m glad to see younger artists who still love the challenge of drawing. I’ve been doing a lot of pastel paintings and watercolor and acrylic paintings. Knowing how to draw well makes painting easier. I watched your whole video hoping that you would correct the length of the neck since you did such an excellent job on the rest of the drawing. I think it would help you to look at the distance from the bottom of the ears to the top of the shoulder. Also, you can use the bottom of the ears to draw an “X” across the neck to get the angle of the shoulders. We didn’t learn the Reilly drawing method-just the Lumis method and looking for shapes and angles.

    Great video Bradwynn! Very interesting drawing technique, it's like the complete opposite of how I draw. And I especially like the way you do live commentary, very informative and relaxing. Wish I could do that. Keep up the good work!

    I have learned a lot about drawing faces from you. You are very precise with the instruction . The only problem I have is I wish you would show your measurements when you use your pencil on the models face.

  • @skydavidhealth
    @skydavidhealth 4 роки тому +4

    Great instruction, the best figurative and head lay-in's on youtube. The old version of the Conte' with the golden bands are excellent (B), however they must have sold the company as the new ones
    with the silver bands are inconsistent with hard specs. I went to Wolff's as I heard other figure drawing instructors have. They are very smooth, however use a much softer labeled value to get the same results as the older Conte'.

    • @bradwynn
      @bradwynn  4 роки тому +3

      Thank you! Yah I ran out of the gold bands a long time ago and had unfortunately bought dozens of the newer ones that tear into the paper. I’m going to buy several different brands and test them out. I really do like the Wolff’s carbon pencils though. Have you tried Primo pencils? I’m looking to test that one next

    • @skydavidhealth
      @skydavidhealth 4 роки тому +2

      @@bradwynn I have used Primo, it was a bit to soft and smeary compared to Wolff's that is very contained (meaning the movements of my hands over the smooth newsprint tends to keep the integrity of the lines and shadow mapping with the Wolff's. Primo is more black, very black. Getting used to different properties of the charcoal.(At Watt's they converted to Wolff's for this reason, used to use the golden banded Conte's and were so disappointed after there were no Conte' available for a while and when it came back it was more cheaply made with the silver band with the same issue of hard specs. .

    • @bennyvermeulen7255
      @bennyvermeulen7255 4 роки тому

      skydavidhealth I have some with a golden band and they are good, bought them in a small art store that still had them. If i buy conté stuff, I see that the name is BIC now and Conté is written in small letters on the package. specially on the school pencils, ink nib pens and colour pencils. I think that the company is taken over. That is for some years now.

    AWESOME drawing, man! Those Wolff's Carbons are really working out well for you. You know, I was just reading Norman Rockwell’s book Rockwell on Rockwell and it was cool to read that he regularly used those pencils in his process of picture making. I’m sorry to hear about the bcc, but it sounds like it’s not too serious, and that you’re in good care. I’ve been really busy with work and school and it sounds like you are too but we should work out a time to draw together soon!

      You want to try to keep your wrist and forearm steady, and move/rotate mainly with your shoulder, and a bit with your elbow. Learning to draw from the shoulder is a great technique many artists use, I'm sure there's gotta be tons of videos on how to practice it.

    this dude is good. notice how with the pencil the lead aint breaking, or snapping. hes mean at this shit, and hes young. a bad boy at some art work. bet hes fast. yes, i can see it again a little. it is quite abstract, maybe obtuse?
    these artists where important in the early 80's and 90's. before there head abstraction most art was colored in. but they were eventually chased down and attacked in the 90's in various cities by art thieves and critics. it revolves around a central idea, of artwork that recreates just the face. i thought they were geniuses, but maybe just art to some.
    crazy how the term lead to the amount of graffiti though in major motion pictures. then eventually were accused of being racists. why niggas tattoed themselves up until 2pac got shot, the ultimate head abstraction you see. and i rap some, but im a tagger. I always live in hell...dont change...demons again at the door. bye
