Love this video series! Why? Because I also have several Life-Like Proto-2000 locomotives that have been sitting in boxes for at least 10 years. I sold most, that didn't have cracked gears, and now that I'm finally getting around to building my first little shelf layout, it's time to open the cartons, and see what's left. So, I'll be watching your entire series, and trying to replicate your success, and then selling all but a few after I've repaired them. * subscribed *
Thanks for watching! That series has been completed so the videos will be in my Model Railroading playlist if you'd like to watch them. The locomotives work great and all 4 have new gears, LED lights, DCC and sound.
If you watch my 3 part series of this locomotive you'll see how I did it. If you want to keep the board in the locomotive you'll have to get a decoder with an 8 pin connector.

@@SPSteve Thanks, and Walther's is low on those drive axle replacement gears. So will the Athearn SD40-2 (part# ATH60024) gears work?
@@What_If_We_Tried I've never tried the Athearn parts, so I can't say. But I think others have used them successfully.
@@SPSteve Thanks...
whats the best way to do DCC in one of the earlier P2Ks with the early PCB board? I have a SP GP20 never been run (until I bought it) I want to DCC it
