On your classification lights, if you ever decide you want to use them on a future locomotive, Tamiya makes a clear paint that works great for coloring your micro LED’s. I installed a sound decoder with new LED’s in an Athearn Northern Pacific “F” unit that had an emergency red light in the headlight. I dipped the micro LED in red clear Tamiya paint, let it dry, then dipped it in the clear red paint a second time, and it worked great! I was surprised how good it turned out. Tamiya makes several colors of clear paint.

I appreciate the idea! I'll have to give that a try next time I do a DCC install.

Athearn has been using the frame of their locos years ago for a long time 50 years or more for one side of the wheels .

It's an old design for sure. I don't know why they just couldn't run a second wire, but it is what it is. Works fine.

In them years DCC did not exist it was a great concept. Many manufacturers still use it.

That GP 30 is already equipped for a sound decoder, plug and play.

Yes, I originally bought the LokSound decoders for 8 the pin plugs, but I decided to hardwire them. I feel like doing it that way allowed me to keep it more tidy and it wasn't much more effort.
