In this last brief segment, Pike Lambeth from the Lockman Foundation answers some questions regarding translation decisions that were difficult regarding the issue of gender neutrality. There’s a couple other small topics touched on as well.

Thanks for sharing. I've been a fan of the NASB family of translations since the original in 1977. It's great now to have the diversity of content available. It's a great help with bible study.

I just watched this series and also thoroughly enjoyed it! When I was Baptized about 40 years ago my Pastor gave me an NASB77 and I think it's so cool 😎 that we now can boast of an NASB family [with the LSB being my favorite] - thanks ✝️

Very helpful Tim! This is the only video I can find with someone from Lockman discussing the NASB20.

Concerning “gender accuracy” (not gender inclusivity or gender neutrality), the addition of the explanatory “... and sisters” is not the problem.
What sounds like fingernails across a chalkboard to the NASB 77/95 lover is when they changed man or men to “person.”

I agree gender accuracy is the better term. Inclusivity and neutrality are sort of liberal slogans at this point. I do believe that sometimes translating man as person is fine. But…is it overkill? Hard to say. Here is what I know…the issue is here, and it isn’t going anywhere. It will be interesting to see where it leads.

My biggest problem with the 2020 is that I feel like I cannot regularly preach from it to an elderly, conservative congregation. I think I would cause an unnecessary issue with a few people in the church, who just wouldn’t be able to understand the distinction between earnest “gender accuracy” and “bowing the knee to secular society” or “giving in to the Leftists agenda.”

This just seems all too familiar for those of us who remember the TNIV and NIV 2011. I believe, in that case, the gender tweaking was a catalyst for the migration from NIV to ESV for many people (women and men). 😉

@@msctshrly I'm only 36, and I'd be right there with the elders with the concerns of bowing the knee to secular society and giving in to the leftists agenda. I don't think this was Lockman's intention, but I do think they made a poor choice in these decisions. I also think LSB made a poor choice changing brethren to brothers (among other a few other things like the Sacred Name stuff). If both LSB and 2020 avoided their respective controversies, they would both be excellent and welcome updates I think.

I’ve heard women using guys to mean everyone though. I think sometimes people are too sensitive and I don’t think that should be a criteria for translation. At the same time I don’t necessarily have a problem with adding “and sisters “.

Can somebody explain to me what
“it keeps every confidence” means in 1 Corinthians 13:7?
I’m used to reading it as “bears all things” in the NASB 1995.
How do you get from “bears all things” to “it keeps every confidence”???

Ancient Greek is complex. It seems here the idea is that love can be always be counted on because it endures aka can survive anything, which is interpreted a few ways. It can carry all things and never fail or grow weary, or it keeps aka upholds everything in a way you can have long term confidence. Not sure if this helps, but if you look over several translations you will see many different interpretations, all with the same central point. Love can be trusted always.

@@anickelsworthbiblereviews Thank you, this was very helpful. I did some research and realized that “keeping confidences” is actually a thing; I just never used the term in my everyday language.
Thanks for your channel, and all your hard work. 🤙🏾

Hey thanks for all your work. I was considering the 2020 as it does read well but after this interview with this man from Lockman, I am going with LSB. He seemed to have a hard time answering your questions about a bible his company publishes. i was also looking for a John Macarthur take on 2020. No luck. You've made up my mind for me. Thank you

I like it too. I didn’t see the issues as too invasive, but its going to be interesting to see where some of the issue go.
