I have an old Mustang with a 24” scale. When set up properly, the whammy is so smooth. Very cool to do subtle warbles on chords. Mine, unfortunately, does not have the original pickups but has stratocaster single coil sized dual rail humbuckers.
When I was a kid I really wanted a thinline telecaster. I thought "why would people want a jazzmaster? They don't have humbuckers and they look like a worse version of a stratocaster". Then I got an Ultra Jazzmaster in a store clearance and after switching the pickups it's my favorite guitar, the one that has all the songs I want to play already in it.
@@coljimusic some Lollar "regular" ones, based on their 1958 Jazzmaster. Since the Ultra apparently has 250k pots, now I have a vintage Jazzmaster for cheap lol
I once bought (kind of by accident, because a associate just asked my if i wanted to buy "a" guitar he hadn't played for 20 years) a black Squier Vista Series Super-Sonic (crafted in Japan in the late 90s). Super cool guitar, short scale, reverse offset, reverse headstock, allegedly inspired by a photograph of Jimi Hendrix playing a Fender Jazzmaster upside down. I just found out after i bought it, that Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, who is also one of my all-time favorite guitar players, played the same model with At the Drive-In. Omar being left handed of course played this guitar upside down, which made that guitar even more crazy. :-D I will never sell this guitar. By the way: When in bought it, it had a big Darkthrone sticker on the body's front. I'm very happy that it could be removed without a trace. 😂
Killer Fender Mustang, Very similar to the Jaguar as far as shape goes. I’m like you never really had these guitars on my radar. I own a Fender tell Jim Root MIM, just got it 5 months ago, I’m on the fence about the EMG pickups but really have fallen in love with the guitar, I’ve definitely “vibed out” and still continue to do so with that Fender. I really dig the tones you’re getting with the Mustang, chords sound glorious. There’s something about Fender guitars that just feel right. Cool video Colji and excellent playing as well. Cheers from Chicago!
Thats nice story bro, the last time I saw my nan before she died was a couple of years before covid hit, she lived in Wales and im in England so obv couldnt travel to see her during the lockdown when she passed. But yeah my only named guitar is a early 1960s Harmony Archtop that she gave me the extra £50 i needed the last time I saw her so I named it Ann. Thats a lovely guitar too. Cheers from the UK.
I’m sorry to hear about your Nan. That’s a really nice story; I’m sure that guitar means a lot to you. Also those early Harmony’s are wicked guitars! Thanks for watching :)
When you talk about the neck being small, do you mean the scale length, or is it one with an A width nut? Although I love all of my short scales, I've never had a chance to play one with an A width neck. I also have big hands, and I can't help but think that a skinny little 1.5" nut would make it next to impossible for me to play a clean chord on one. Anyway, congrats, she's a beauty, man, great example!
It’s an A width nut! It’s definitely a different experience for sure but you get used to it after a while! Chords are trickier for sure haha. Thanks man!
I've got my eyes on a MiJ Traditional 60 Mustang in THIS colour combo. I'm just curious about one thing, how do these feel when playing? In particular when compared to a Strat because I really like how they snuggle up against you. I've heard that offsets are comfortable, I'm just wondering how they compare
I’ve got a strat and a jaguar and they both feel similar when it comes to balance when sitting, the necks are noticeably different. The Jaguar and Mustang have a shorter scale length to them so it feels a little different.
I always wanted an SG ever since my aunt bought me AC/DC No Bull, and I finally got one 3 weeks ago.
That’s awesome! I hope you’re loving it!

That’s awesome! That’s sweet, I wish I could get my whammy to work better on it. I bet it still sounds really cool!

It's not my #1 guitar but I do really like my Mustang. I love the clangy kind of weird bell/chime thing it has going on.
They're really great interesting guitars! That's a great way to describe the sound of it

That opening jam could easily be an Idles song.
Idles rules! Glad it was reminiscent of them!
I had a 65 and a 66, wish I still had them.
Mine was a schecter sun valley super shredder with a sustainiac and dang…. That guitar is awesome!
That sounds like an amazing guitar!
I too just recently saw Omar using one in an old At the drive in’s live omg😳.
Oh dang nice! What song was he using it for?
@@coljimusic Pattern against user-live on channel v, he switched to it during the song
I really like the opening jam, but I think you need the guitar way louder and with a lot less room effect so we can hear the star of the song.

@@xenertia5344 Similar body feel to a Strat is good, and I'm sure I'd appreciate the 24" scale due to small hands
What is that song in the intro, I’d love to listen to that offline
Reminds me of Nuns of the Tundra and Queens of the Stone Age
It’s an original song that I wrote for this video! Not on Spotify unfortunately

hey man! sick vid, just letting you know its "bee-ba-doo-bee" instead of "be-a-doo-bee"

Is this the one with the very short scale?
I'd say it is pretty short! It has a 22.5" scale length compared to a strat which has a 25.5".
five million dollarsd for it!!!
okay I mayyyy consider that :)
