    I LOVE your videos. Especially your traditional food videos. Simpler food for simpler times! I am growing an entire garden of Japanese foraged mountain vegetables and edible plants this year partly because of your influence, but also because of the manga, 'アエカナル.'
    Thank you so much for helping me feel inspired.

    WOW!!!! That food is a work of art. Your lucky family will be very blessed to enjoy it. My mother used to make traditional foods from my culture that took lots of time to make, and was eaten in a very short time!😊. Happy New year to you and your family and I hope you will make your goal to 100,000 subscribers.😌🙏🏻

      @@kyodokan.japanese.cuisinewell, my mom would make many traditional cookies at Christmas, butter tarts, apple Struedel from scratch, cabbage rolls, a roaster full of schnitzel made from a deboned Turkey, which she did. As well as the usual veggies such as mashed potatoes, peas and corn, gravy, dressing, salads, pickles, baked ham, homemade buns. It was a feast. Very different from your tradition. I keep things much more simple. Still enjoyable. We now have many traditions to draw ideas from at Christmas. I still do apple Struedel (not from scratch), Turkey schnitzel and so forth. Not so much baking. Thanks for asking. Have a very good holiday. See you in 2025.😊

    From what I recall correctly during the Noto earthquake, osechi became survival food because they could be eaten cold. This was because it hit on New Year’s Day, when many people in the Ishinomaki prefecture had gathered for the occasion.

    Oh dear RYUSEI! What a great traditional presentation. I was amazed to watch the care and love of these dishes. Thank you!! It was a lot of work. I received a Mukimono Knife for Christmas gift from my family. I am very excited and eager to use it. It is very sharp. The handle is not so nice, so I will get a knife dealer to put on a new Wa handle for me. Wishing you the best in 2025!!

    Wow, Ryusei. This is so nice and beautiful. I appreciate that you say what everything is called and how it is written in Japanese and the story/meaning behind it. These are very traditional foods, far from izakaya. I tasted many of these things during my years in Japan, but not exactly prepared and presented this way. We were a small household and osechi boxes were not in our plans. A friend though who runs a sushi resto in Fukuoka makes some. In very nice boxes, as well as the sushi delivery boxes. It is amazing they always come back, I love Japan. Yes, in some European countries we do still eat both dried hering and hering roe. For other newer viewers I also recommend your knife clip. Arigato. Akemashite omedeto.

    • @kyodokan.japanese.cuisine
      @kyodokan.japanese.cuisine  14 днів тому +1

      Hi, Akemashite omedeto! I’m so happy my video was interesting for you. Yes, it’s different from izakaya dishes. You ate them! That’s nice!
      And thank you for teaching me, some viewers also taught me that in Europe people eat herrings. Actually in Japan we eat raw herrings as well, but it’s not common in our daily meals. Thank you.

      @@kyodokan.japanese.cuisine In Sweden, Poland, Germany and the Baltic countries there is pickled herring, fried, marinated raw and in Sweden also the famous surströmming - fermented herring. The latter has a very strong smell, it is even forbidden to eat in many apartment buildings! It is best eaten outdoors from August and on. Most people eat it with chopped, raw onion, sour cream, thin bread, a bit like Lebanese pita bread and boiled potatoes, beer and shochu. A friend will mail a can to me soon. I hope my neighbours will not call the police when I eat it :-))

    Really beautiful dishes and presentation! I wish you and your family luck and success for the next year!
    Let me ask, how common is to prepare these auspicious dishes now in Japan? Do all families try to do this?

    • @kyodokan.japanese.cuisine
      @kyodokan.japanese.cuisine  18 днів тому +2

      Thank you very much! And I wish you and your family too!!
      Although it’s my opinion, probably, about 20% people make all dishes from scratch. And 50% people make some dishes and buy some dishes. And 30% people buy all dishes.
      Grocery stores start to advertise “Osechi” from September to October.
