My learner bike was a 2006 Ninja 650, I loved riding that bike. Later I moved up to a R6, but recently I seriously considered moving back to a 650 since I ride street and tour 90% of the time.
Bought one these a week ago... rode on the street for the first time with it... was fun, cant wait to get my break in miles done... limits you to ride below 4krpm and under 50 mph... also this is probably the best video on the bike... ive watched this like 4 times 👌
i know in 2017 model windsheild has 3 position (low, mid, high). comes in "low" position. Needs an alen key and 5 minutes to adjust for what you prefer.
Top position is awesome for highway or you can put a cheap aftermarket windscreen on. I installed a nice black one on my 2019 Ninja 650 and it is awesome
The only thing that kept me from buying a Ninja 650 as my first bike was the insurance. I ended up picking up a Yamaha R3 with 1000 miles on it. Within a few years I can see myself trading it in for a Ninja 650. I'm a smaller guy under 170 lbs, and the R3 feels great. I can imagine the Ninja 650 will fill all wants for me. If the CBR650R wasn't so expensive, it would definitely be a contender. Great video as always. Can't wait to see the CBR and SV.
I rode the ninja 650 2 months ago and I like that it’s smooth and forgiving 2 less experienced riders. I got my motorcycle license n October and feel it’s a good starter bike as I’m a heavier rider
Just got this bike like 2 weeks ago, absolutely love it. The torque is great, I got it to 90 without trying. I am 6’1 200 lbs. Feels great for me, I feel like I can tuck pretty well.
Your comment actually is very useful for me cause I am a tad on the heavier side around 290 so I was just wondering is this a good bike for a bigger guy I also coming from a 1996 800b kawasaki vulcan
Considering your name you’re probably 18-19 so just go ahead and move up to a 600 or liter bike if you think you’re ready because the 650 and 400 barely have a power difference and it’s heavier with a top speed only like 20mph more
@@Marshall006 I'm 38 and have old army injuries and a kid, so no supersports for me.... I'll be quite happy on a mid size bike like the Ninja 650, I'm looking at a few other models as well.
Sat on one at the dealership. Comfy seat, great ergos. I'm 6'2", 180# and the reach was sweet. I could shift back and forth on the saddle. You have to realize how bundled up you are to know that with a normal textile or mesh jacket there's room on the seat to move around. I own a 2011 Ninja 1000 and this new 650 is tempting me bad. So much lighter. The Ninja 650 started in 2006. I owned a black/silver with a red shock. Bike was so flickable. Back then though even the factory touring screen was not enough for 150 mile trips. My shoulders and neck were sore from pulling myself forward against the wind. But sitting on the new one it has a taller screen and it's set further forward. To me I'd either add a deflector or they do offer a taller screen from the factory still. This bike is an urban assault vehicle! My 2006, for suspension I had progressives in the front and went up in oil weight to 10. This time around is just replace the innards completely with Race Tech for like less than $400. Stock you find the limitations quickly in either city or sweepers. I do like the styling better. The original was very smooth and rounded. Very aerodynamic. But THANK GOD SOMEONE FINALLY MADE CAT EYE HEADLIGHTS THAT ARE BOTH ON IN LOW BEAM. PLEASE, would someone tell these manufactures how UGLY a single squinty-eyed low beam looks. TFT screen is nice. Probably still have to do a full exhaust install because of the muffler design instead of just a slip-on. I'd have to ask about that or shop it out on the net. I'd opt for the KRT version. The other two colors are dull, boring, easy to turn invisible in traffic. Not a great thing if you commute. One notable thing is the cassette style transmission. With little effort and the shop manual you can swap out gears at will on a weekend. For a commuter meaning lower rev at higher speeds. For the adrenaline junkie you can swap it out for tighter quicker gears. Bike's been around so long there's plenty of combinations to play with here.
I own a 2012 650 and this year I upgraded to a 1000sx and I must say, I really still love riding my 650 around town and commuting to work. Im waiting for the next generation but I will be buys another ninja 650 in the future.
Aye, I have a 125 dirtbike that i've only used offroad for about a year. I'm thinking about a street bike and can't decide between an r3, ninja 400 or this. Would you recommend the jump to the 650 to start on?
@@caleb1518 I recommend it. I have it limited and it feels so good. Its my first "big moto" and I didnt have any problems to handle it. I was thinking on the 400 too, but with time I was sure I was going to go for the 650 too, so I went for it directly. Maybe, the 400 will consume less fuel, but I cannot asure you this.
Bought one a few weeks back, driving mostly in town and farm roads. I'm sitting around 200 miles right now. That being said this is the first bike I've ever owned or ridden outside of the MSF course, which was required in here to legally ride. As for the flashing light for the first 400 miles you are supposed to "break it in" keeping the rpms at or under 4k. All of the main roads near me are 75 mph and 60 mph so its basically impossible to stay under 4000 rpm. Here is something I found off of the net related to the Break In from the owner's manual. "The first 1 600 km (1 000 mi) that the motorcycle is ridden is designated as the break-in period. If the motorcycle is not used carefully during this period, you may very well end up with a "broken down" instead of a "broken in" motorcycle after a few thousand kilometers" and "In addition to the above, at 1 000 km (600 mi) it is extremely important that the owner have the initial maintenance service performed by an authorized Kawasaki dealer."
Weird, after sitting on one from a few years ago. it feels almost like a Tourer/tiny cruiser disguised as a "sport" bike. but man its beyond underrated.
This is a very Fair Review. I have put a couple of thousand miles on a 2017 Ninja 650. Because it is very similar to the 2020 model, I can maybe add a couple of points. The bike is very easy to get used to and will fill the needs of most bikers from beginners to long time veterans 90% of the time. One doesn't have to put many miles on this bike before one learns to appreciate it's predictability. One can also expect to hit fuel mileage in the 60 mpg range when given the proper attention. If I were pressed to pick one bike to ride for 10 years, it would be this bike.
Aftermarket touring screen, these are such good all around bikes and just a blast to rip around on. Dead reliable, heavy aftermarket, parts availability. Fun but won’t get away from you, gets too much hate imho, I have an MT07 and rode my friends new Ninja 650 truthfully the kawi is just more than the spec sheet would have you believe. I highly recommend this bike
12:00 that has been a problem with the windshield for literally all generations. Getting a nice sporty, bit steeped or taller windscreen makes this bike absolutely smooth on the highway.
the zero gravity double bubble solves most of that issues with the 17-19 models and still looks good.. Height of the rider will matter of course. I'm 5'10 and it made a huge differance.. I'm actually glad they went back to the fixed mount. in theory I liked the idea of the adjustable windshield. But it looked horrible in any position other then lowest.
This Kawa 650 engines are sound tuned so good from factory, with a nice exhaust note and a very sporty intake sound at full throttle. Of course a V twin with a full system will sound better but if you are not willing to throw money with an exhaust, a tune and extras, then the Kawasaki is ahead.
Excellent videos where you're not only on the bike in First person view, but also showing 3rd person view of the bike in action. Great bike reviews, thanks! Cool bike and design IMO.
Great review man! I’m new to the motorcycle world. I got a free 1990 Kawasaki ninja 600r I’m gonna fix up. But all the other motorcycle videos I see the audio is terrible. All the wind noise is so obnoxious but your setup and editing is on point! And 1 reviewer to another (me being movies you being bikes) great work! You’re very analytical but fair! Seriously bud keep it up!
Nice! It's too slow for the track, but it's too fast for commuting.. haha.. You can do everything on this bike, trackdays, touring, commuting, reasonable price.. Love it!
These things haven't changed since Kawasaki introduced the EX 500 in 1987. I know, I bought one. Same punchy engine characteristics, same problems on the highway... I love them. They are the perfect little town bikes, and not terrible to ride on the highway.
Your review of the Ninja 650 2016 made me go out and buy one! I had a garbage truck smash into it two years later and total it. Went out of my way to find the same model. Still love it to this day!
Reviewing a bike when it's snowing, only Chase! Owning the 2017 Ninja 650 the 2020 is the same except for the dash, fairings and different rear and front, engine wise and suspension it's the same! I feel it's an all around bike to do anything you want. As far as the shift light at least on mine you have to set when it decides to freak out at you! Highway riding with the wind at higher speeds is not fun, it's geared wrong for the highway so If you ride the highway to work you need to re gear. Oh and you can wheelie very easily with that bike trust me done it many of times not trying 😂😂. Good review Chase! It's a well balanced all around bike!
You can get after market seating and sport styled handlebars.. you can also move the mounts where your feet are. Yet you are sacrificing being comfortable at that point and defeats the purpose of sport touring.. I cant wait to own this bike currently on a 250 ninja just working on my insurance so I can upgrade .. Ontario Canada I'm spending 300 a month age 26 but with the "Sport touring title"its half the insurance rate and it looks like an amazing bike cant wait!.. thanks for the upload
What I like about the ninja is they have cut outside for a usb charging socket. It looks so clean installing one. Also it has bullet plugs for extra lighting if you wanna put fog lights, led, or more tail lights.
16:13 MERRY XMAS!!!! Lol …. But I do LOVE how the passenger seat is above your seat, and there’s a little wall that keeps your butt from sliding backwards…. Feels super secure like your all nestled in. I’m all about it…… but how tall are you???
New rider here. Anyone have any thoughts on the best brand of tires? I have a 2009 Ninja 650r I just got a great deal on. Only 4100 miles and garage kept. Problem is the the 4 digit code on the side of the tires shows the front was made in 2007 and the rear in 2008. Not really thrilled about riding around on 15 year old tires. Just want something good for average everyday riding. I'm not going to be coming down the twisties dragging a knee on the ground or anything extreme. Just looking for something that will grip good. Thanks!
I'd like for you to take the 2024 Ninja 650 (LITERALLY just bought one for myself, heading to the dealer with the cash this week) on a test drive, but do it during warmer weather. You say in this video a couple of things such as not being able to slide forward/back on the seat, and not being able to properly tuck, but you're also wearing a ton of clothing, which greatly restricts movement while increasing your overall size. I would like to see what you think about this years 650, and what you also think when riding it in warm weather where you have just regular gear, instead of 3 coats, 2 pairs of pants, etc.
Great video! I plan on getting one of these as my first bikes, to use as a work commuter. I have a Mustang I’m building to be a drag car(which is my current daily) so I’m going to get this to daily!
Outro Crew: 7/10 Seems like a very solid bike for beginners that want something within this class. It won't get them into any serious situations but is still a blast to ride.
Hey, this is NOT the ABS model. At 21:40 he eventually says it is, but the 2020 Ninja 650 ABS has a sticker on the front wheel mudguard that says "ABS." Unless they took those stickers off, that's why his tire locked up.
Sounds like the 650 has the same gearing setup as the 400 for finding neutral. They set it up so that when you're at a standstill the gearbox makes it impossible to shift up into second accidentally
I have an MT07... and have to admit. Didnt; get a chance to try to K650 before buying the MT07. Still loves the Yamaha, but now I'm always gonna wonder.. lol
I just bought a 2019 ninja 650 for my 1st bike and I love it, and the 2019 seems have fine engine breaking tbh, i hardly got to use breaks if I'm just cursing
I have a 2016 ninja 650 and i have a full Yoshimura exhaust on it that made a huge difference in weight and "nimbility" and a noticeable positive difference in power. I also have Michelin road 5 tires on mine I love the new TFT dash on the new 2020 version. Oh yeah, it was like 78° yesterday here in central florida and like 88° today. Just a little further south from you.
12:35 to 12:55. The next big thing for sport and supersport bikes = height and distance adjustable handlebars ( distance meaning towards you and back away from you diagonally) wit the push of a button...maybe hydraulically done? This way you can quickly switch from relaxed mostly upright riding to hardcore tuck sport/supersport with properly lowered bars so your not having to do a damn bicep curl just to ensure you can hold on to the handlebars.
I'm glad you mentioned your height, I'm slightly taller so I'm glad to know this will fit great :) every time I think of getting my license I think of this bike but I got to save more money before I'm able to get one if I can but this is the kinda review I was looking for and your audio is really good :D

Nice! How long is the break in period?
i know in 2017 model windsheild has 3 position (low, mid, high). comes in "low" position. Needs an alen key and 5 minutes to adjust for what you prefer.
I keep my 2017 in the mid position and it`s perfect for me. Plus I don`t do any highway riding.
Top position is awesome for highway or you can put a cheap aftermarket windscreen on. I installed a nice black one on my 2019 Ninja 650 and it is awesome
My first street bike was a 2015 ninja 650. Have had a 636 and now a gsxs 750 and the 650 is still its own class of fun. Nothing compares.
2019 650 does not have adjustable shield.
EyeInTheSky I have the 2019 I’m sure it has adjustable wind shield 🛡
The only thing that kept me from buying a Ninja 650 as my first bike was the insurance. I ended up picking up a Yamaha R3 with 1000 miles on it. Within a few years I can see myself trading it in for a Ninja 650. I'm a smaller guy under 170 lbs, and the R3 feels great. I can imagine the Ninja 650 will fill all wants for me. If the CBR650R wasn't so expensive, it would definitely be a contender.
Great video as always. Can't wait to see the CBR and SV.
Liability insurance is the same no matter the cc
I rode the ninja 650 2 months ago and I like that it’s smooth and forgiving 2 less experienced riders. I got my motorcycle license n October and feel it’s a good starter bike as I’m a heavier rider
Just got this bike like 2 weeks ago, absolutely love it. The torque is great, I got it to 90 without trying. I am 6’1 200 lbs. Feels great for me, I feel like I can tuck pretty well.
💯
Your comment actually is very useful for me cause I am a tad on the heavier side around 290 so I was just wondering is this a good bike for a bigger guy I also coming from a 1996 800b kawasaki vulcan
i’m 5,8 which gives me some room to scoot back and get into a little more aggressive stance, i like it so much
Kawasaki make awesome machines, I currently ride a Ninja 400 but want to move up to a Ninja 650 asap.
Great review as always.
Considering your name you’re probably 18-19 so just go ahead and move up to a 600 or liter bike if you think you’re ready because the 650 and 400 barely have a power difference and it’s heavier with a top speed only like 20mph more
I'm 12 and I took my dad's 650 when he was at work it's slow
another Aussie? I wouldn't bother unless you want to derestrict it man, from the factory they're both about as fast as eachother.
@@Marshall006 I'm 38 and have old army injuries and a kid, so no supersports for me.... I'll be quite happy on a mid size bike like the Ninja 650, I'm looking at a few other models as well.
@@robby.g6600 lol
Whats all the tighter quicker gears?
I own a 2012 650 and this year I upgraded to a 1000sx and I must say, I really still love riding my 650 around town and commuting to work. Im waiting for the next generation but I will be buys another ninja 650 in the future.
💯
I bought one last week, super cool! And yes, the mirrors are very hard to move! It's my first bike after a 125, so I'm very glad I bought it!
Just bought mine two days ago, I love it.
If the motorcycle is not used carefully during this period, you may very well end up with a "broken down" instead of a "broken in" motorcycle after a few thousand kilometers"
and
"In addition to the above, at 1 000 km (600 mi) it is extremely important that the owner have the initial maintenance service performed by an authorized Kawasaki dealer."
I have a 2019 which is the same as the 2017 and I couldn't agree more it also does wheelies haha
Have you changed the spark plugs on the 2017 bike?
@@Raptor-kc9vh Yea I have a 2011 model with a Ermax Aeromax screen, looks really really good and is well functional
I chose the Zero Gravity Sport Touring windscreen for my 2019 Ninja 650. It looks great and has great protection on the highway
This has been an awesome vid. Thank you for making this for me! I had a 2018 model and it was my absolute favorite.
Good unbiased review…..great quality content….subscribed…keep up
I used to ride my 2018 650 in the same route before pandemic. and I bought it from same dealership. Bringing back lot's of memories!!
Best review on this bike i ve seen on UA-cam 👏👏👏👏😉
What is your audio setup?? The audio is absolutely great!!
Nice! It's too slow for the track, but it's too fast for commuting.. haha.. You can do everything on this bike, trackdays, touring, commuting, reasonable price.. Love it!
*would love a review video on the 2020 z650!*
2021🙏🏻
Pretend this has no fairing and a wider bar. Tada. You've got it.
Same bike one has fairings one doesn't pretty much only difference same for ninja 400 and z400
Yeah the z is the same thing just without fairings
These things haven't changed since Kawasaki introduced the EX 500 in 1987. I know, I bought one.
Same punchy engine characteristics, same problems on the highway... I love them. They are the perfect little town bikes, and not terrible to ride on the highway.
Your review of the Ninja 650 2016 made me go out and buy one! I had a garbage truck smash into it two years later and total it. Went out of my way to find the same model. Still love it to this day!
21:58 those tires are literally as slick as they can get while still being street legal.
Not rain tires and definetly not snow/ice tires.
I'm sold! Best review so far. Upgrading from naked to sports
It's a well balanced all around bike!
the ABS model says ABS on the front fender, I dont think that one is sir.
Just got a 2022 in the dark matte gray color. Brand new to motorcycle ownership but loving it so far.
i like the way you review the Ninja 650. I got all info i need to know about the bike. For sure its going to be my first bigbike.

I've ridden a 2017 ninja 650. Really good bike in all areas
Fezza1187 same here just a sweet ride
Has one of the best value for money available in the market today. Just remembered the time when I reviewed the last gen of that ninja. Awesome bike.
Absolutely love my 2012 Ninja 650. A great all around motorcycle. Does everything well at a great value. It's also dirt cheap to insure.
Thomas Toulmin n what state do u live?? I’m California so I’ll double whatever ur being charged and it’ll b my annual premiums
Best beginner bike for 2020 (9/10) you simply can’t go wrong with this one.
Love everything but the dust-pan windscreen (not a deal breaker). Awesome review series. Can't wait for more.
love that new camera angle
It looks like the Kawa dealer forgot to install the OEM worm on my 2018 650. That, or it’s new for the 2020 model year.
The shots outside the bike is reaaallly cool and nice. Gained a sub!
The best bike review ever so detailed and entertaining to watch
I have a 2019 Ninja 650. My first bike. Purchased 2 months ago. Quick question... What camera are you using that gives you so many different angles?
Gopro 360
You can get after market seating and sport styled handlebars.. you can also move the mounts where your feet are. Yet you are sacrificing being comfortable at that point and defeats the purpose of sport touring.. I cant wait to own this bike currently on a 250 ninja just working on my insurance so I can upgrade .. Ontario Canada I'm spending 300 a month age 26 but with the "Sport touring title"its half the insurance rate and it looks like an amazing bike cant wait!.. thanks for the upload
Awesome video. This is the best review I've seen on this bike. Thanks for the review!

It’s been cold all week. At least the sun came out today. Imma go look at one of these today. Thanks for the review
I adore the signals in the fairing.
Bike looks far more refined these days. Good job Kawa
I love my 650. It’s my first bike and I’m so glad I didn’t go for anything smaller! I use it in my vlog!
I just got mine about a week ago to. What do you think of it? I’m having a tough time getting the turning now since it’s a heavier bike

i have a 2009 ninja 650 its my first bike best thing ever i can ride all day and not get tired of riding
15:20 look at those cars behind me can’t even see em. Next frame: *car army* lol
This comment killed me😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
It’s because they do the go pro and and camera truck in two separate drives, then sinc them up later in editing.

Seems like a very solid bike for beginners that want something within this class. It won't get them into any serious situations but is still a blast to ride.
Really nice video and good review of the bike. Keep up the good content
I don't comment much but man your videoes are just toooooooooooooooo Gooood....
U r awesome bro🔥
Nice bike, 650s are awesome 💯
Hey, this is NOT the ABS model. At 21:40 he eventually says it is, but the 2020 Ninja 650 ABS has a sticker on the front wheel mudguard that says "ABS." Unless they took those stickers off, that's why his tire locked up.
Sounds like the 650 has the same gearing setup as the 400 for finding neutral. They set it up so that when you're at a standstill the gearbox makes it impossible to shift up into second accidentally
Thanks for your analysis, 10. I’m getting the Kawasaki ninja 650 now. Thanks
Have been waiting for your review of this bike for a long time! 👍😆
I miss my 2012 Ninja 650r. It was so easy to ride and a great commuter. Always thought it sounded like a lawnmower though.
My 2019 sounded like a lawn mower, I threw a Yoshimura full system exhaust on it and now it sounds like a beast..
The price in MN is about 6899 I’m totally not getting rid of my gsxr but getting the 650 600s break backs in an hour or so love the look to
12:35 to 12:55.
💯
I’ve been waiting for this chase 🔥
I got the 2020 z650 which is basically the naked version of this bike and I love it and it's my first bike
Nice review!! You reviewed thr bike very clearly.. nice job👍
I give it a 9. I just recently bought my first bike ever. A 2020 ninja 400. I'm still a noob, but absolutely love it. So, I could definitely imagine myself buying the 650 in the not so distant future.
