    Great install Gary, Data cable should be 2 core sheilded cable (belden or similar) Can affect the CT clamp operation

    Regs state you need it’s own dedicated double pole RCBO. Both line and Neutral need to be switched. The MCB won’t do

    • @abcelectric
      @abcelectric  2 роки тому

      Hi Jordan. That is incorrect. I'm not going to deep dive into the Regs here but I shall point you to 722.53 in BS7671 Amendment 1 and 5.4-5.6 in the IET Code of Practise for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation. To summarise though, the arrangement here was a dedicated final circuit with an overcurrent protection device to BS EN 60898 and a Type A 30mA RCD to BS EN 61008-1. Nowhere does it state that a DP RCBO is required and the Regs are satisfied with the above arrangement.

    Brand new cable...I'm going to do an insulation resistance test....🤷‍♂️

      Yes Matt, as per regs. What if it's faulty out of the factory or got kinked/damaged during the installation? It takes seconds and apart from being best practice it is a mandatory test for the certification.

    brilliant guide what’s the best charger your installing at present I’m a spark but don’t do car chargers as I do industrial installs. Looking at either pod point or zappi but there’s lots on the market

      Thanks mate. Very subjective question as they all ultimately do the same job at the same speed, but value for money I'd probably say Pod Point, aesthetics Anderson A2, solar/battery integration Zappi, size Wallbox, Ohme, Sync EV. It's whatever fits your needs the best.

    Quite a few different models out there this one appears to be easy to set up and walk away besides setting the dip switches if that’s the case I can fit these on new builds and walk away rather than rolec granny boxes or is there more to it ? Any advise thanks in advance

      If you're going to fit EV chargers I'd suggest doing the EV course and buying the IET "Code of practice for Electric vehicle charging equipment installations" or whatever it's correct title is. All the information is in the Regs and that publication. It's not something I could reasonably explain here as every charger and installation condition is slightly different, but once you've got the basics nailed it's not too difficult to figure out

    Hi can you tell me is t&e 2.5mm cable in trunking on the inside walls ok to install 7kw charger
    Cheers

    • @abcelectric
      @abcelectric  Рік тому

      No. Get a registered electrician to install it. An EV charger has onerous regulations and should not be installed if you don't know what they are. Anyone asking if 2.5mm cable can be used obviously isn't an electrician and shouldn't be installing it.

      @ABC Electric hi thanks for your reply I was reading the cable wrong its 2x6 -2.5mm t&e which is 6mm

    What do you typically charge per install including the grant?

    • @abcelectric
      @abcelectric  2 роки тому

      Typically between £650 and £850 for a Pod Point Danny, but there are a lot of variables

    ? If I fit the the roles 13 amp plug type charger wall pod on new build sites do I need 6 ma rdc if so how can I do it tnx in advance

    • @abcelectric
      @abcelectric  2 роки тому +1

      I don't know the Rolec models, however the regulations apply to all installations. If a charger doesn't have 6mA RDC-DD protection then in the absence of any other information my suggestion would be to fit a Type B RCD upstream.

    Hello. Neat job. What if you dont install data cable?

    • @abcelectric
      @abcelectric  2 роки тому

      Thanks Tony. You have to speak to Pod Point if you're not going to install the CT clamp to change the configuration, but it's not something I've ever done. Personally I fit a different make if load management isn't possible. It still has to be connected to WiFi however. Chargers that can't communicate are not Mode 3 "smart" chargers and don't qualify for the OZEV grant or meet IET recommendations.

    • @tonyp2878
      @tonyp2878 2 роки тому

      Sorry didnt quite understand. If you only connected it to 6mm supply cable will it be still charging EV without data cable?

    • @abcelectric
      @abcelectric  2 роки тому

      You need to speak to Pod Point Tony. My understanding is that the load management feature from the data cable fails safe, so if there's no data input signal from the CT clamp then you'll get no charging output at all. I fit data on all my installs so have zero experience otherwise.

      Sorry Gary. So your data cable is from A to B ? starts at meter box and terminates at the charger itself?

  • @jameshorspool5054

    Do you get any interference from the cat 5 being so close though to swa

    • @abcelectric
      @abcelectric  2 роки тому

      Not that I'm aware of. The Cat 5 or data cable is twisted pair, screened and suitably bedded and insulated. EV Ultra is specially designed cable for this very application. Go to Doncaster Cables website and read the spec sheet for a more detailed explanation

    • @jameshorspool5054
      @jameshorspool5054 2 роки тому

      @@abcelectric ok I didn't know if you need an electrode at the swa and cat 5 end where your eV unit is. incase of a loop forming from magnetic interference. I know twin and earth and cat 5 ran together can cause this not too sure about the swa, do you earth them both into together at the point of service?

    • @abcelectric
      @abcelectric  2 роки тому +1

      The cable I use isn't usually SWA James, it's "Hi-Tuff" (pretty much SWA without the armour), because in most of my installations there's an upstream Type A RCD and it's clipped direct, so no need for armouring, however I connect the screen of the data to the CT clamp "GND" connection at the charger end. I don't honestly know all the technical ins and outs of it all, so I just follow the instructions issued by the charge point and cable manufacturers. If there was an issue with interference, hysteresis, earth loops or whatever then I don't think the manufacturers would be suggesting that this was their preferred method.

    • @abcelectric
      @abcelectric  2 роки тому +1

      From the manufacturer:
      Proximity of communications cables (extract from 528.2) - Special considerations of electrical interference, both electromagnetic and electrostatic, may apply to telecommunication circuits, data transfer circuits and the like.
      EV-Ultra® has been designed with these considerations in mind, it incorporates screened, twisted pair data cables and is also constructed with a lay length that reduces interference. The third party data testing conducted under our BASEC approval shows that we have successfully achieved a design solution that achieves excellent data transmission without interference.
