My first ever finished animatic and first time I’ve posted any drawings of humans…
I’m still new at drawing humans, so please forgive how weird they look here. I did this section of music so I could draw the sirens in my style :)

The siren deaign is phenomenal! The human face is just mimicry for prey and, presumably, has hardly any of the functionality that a real face would have. It seriously shifts the dynamic to have the sirens so large and bestial, they're VERY clearly predators.
AHHH Tysm!! Yes, that is exactly how I intended it. The face on their heads serve as a basis for illusions or visions in the victim's mind, which was why ody was on a beach in the first scene :)
@@ShiftingStorms It's so well thought out! Even when the siren is imitating Penelope, it moves in this way that makes sense for the short little legs and long body you gave it. Plus it looks like it uses the water but still breathes air, maybe in a reptilian way, and slicing off the tails really would make them drown without that propulsion. Very well conceived!

The sirens' design is SICK
Love the ballance between pop-culture mermaid siren and classical bird siren, with just a splash of elderitch horror siren. Such a unique and terrifying design that somehow pleases everyone.
All put together to make a Mesozoic looking sea dragon that hunts sailors
I wanna note that "pop culture siren" isn't an entirely fair description. Sirens have been fish people in European literature for nearly a millennium-- it started with the Reneissance, but was solidified in English lit by Shakespeare. It's like saying cyclopses with only one eye are "pop culture cyclopses" just because Polyphemus had two eyes in the Odyssey. It's closer to "Classical Greek sirens vs English sirens"

Y'know what? I like how you made the sirens look more monstrous rather than the typical half pretty woman half fish depiction of them...the design also helps distinguish mermaids from sirens(since your design kinda resembles both a bird and a fish) and also because they're both different creatures. Also making the sirens monstrous would make people feel less sorry for their deaths ngl which is how it should be.

The annoyed look on the siren's face when Odysseus called her out, that indignant huff, then the offended hiss omg so childish but relatable. Reminds me of the crocodile from Peter Pan when he failed eating Hook and Smee shooed him away, the same reaction happens with the Octopus in Return to Nederland. I don't know, The Siren's face is just so comical despite her being an actual predator 😂😂😂

Funny when you consider seals and sea lions r prob where mermaid stories come from lol. Look kinda like mermaids and ACT like mermaids. Plus notice their flippers do resemble wings a little, and for sea lions ACT like wings in the water.
I love the mix of modern half-fish sirens with the classical greek bird sirens that often don't appear in media

Can we just gush for a moment about how haunting it is when the “real” eyes open on the siren and the exhale at 0:39???

I absolutely adore the fact that you drew the sirens as something inhuman, something monstrous, some other form of creature. I’ve never seen anything but the animatics for this song having the sirens drawn as just human women with tails. Even with all the thrilling mystery Epic the Musical presents with their illusions implying they could look like anything underneath, and their voices sounding a pitch too perfect, and too in-unison, and high and screechy and almost instrumental-like when Odysseus’s crew has them captured, suggesting what we think of as vocal cords might not even be what their voices are coming from. I’m glad you actually got creative with the designs and addressed the possibilities for imagination and didn’t just draw more ladies with fish tails and fin ears for this fascinating song.

I love what you’ve done with your interpretation of a siren. Because modern media interprets the siren as a mermaid, but what you have done is incredible. You made it appear like a Mermaid and a Siren are two VASTLY different creatures.

I really love these takes on the sirens, they look EPIC!! I first thought they were a bird, fish hybrid like how sirens were originally depicted as harpys but later was made to look like mermaids. These are probably just amphibians with big scales and a dino face. Anyway I think people should reinterpret monsters in their unique way like this because we can get designs like these.
I LOVE YOUR DESIGNS FOR THE SIRENS. If you're up for it, a full animatic for Different Beast with your siren design or even any other vid with your take on sirens (like a species profile or something with your interpreptation) would be amazing. I love it.

Oh my gods the sirens are so cool! They remind me of SCP-682, the unkillable lizard thing. The human face design on top of their heads was genius! And 1:17 was so hilarious 💀

I love how beastly you made them and while the humanoid classic designs for other sirens I've seen are still great, this has to be the most unique take I've seen! The extra detail of Ody crying knowing that it isn't Pen but still having a hard time hurting something that looks like her is real good attention to detail

I lOVE THIS!?!? First off the sirnes deign is amazing, don't get me wrong, the design for odysseous and the ship are nice, the ship has some smooth curves and elegant railings, but I adore the siren design. They look like a mad fusion of a lion, shark, and crocodile. I love the expressions that siren! Penelope has, and the way she expresses emotion in the more beastly form, the little hiss and the goofy face when he tells her about what happened to her friends. Plus the dissonance between the human and best form, it makes them resemble japanese yokai or Jttw demons more than anything else! Now, unto odysseous, i love his expressions, the way that although he's playing the siren he is genuinly upset about having to shoot something which resembles his wife, and his sassy body language after shooting her. Even the water, the stones, and the stormy sky look stunning! Also, the sirens are absolutely huge! I think only a great white, an orca or an elephant seal would've rivaled them(had they entered the water they would be super dead, and no wonder odysseous refered to her making them into "snacks" not "meals"), had the shot at 1:11 is absolutely amazing at bringing the huge size of both the sirens and the ship! You would make an excellent speculative evolution project judging from the sirens designs!. Thank you for making it!

That was fantastic! I know everyone is saying it but your siren design is incredible, they're so imposing and I love the idea of the face on their heads being a center for their illusions, and the little flash at 0:23 was some really cool foreshadowing! Really great work. And don't worry, your humans didn't look too weird at all, I really enjoy your take on Penelope!

I know you’ve already been told many times but for real, I have seen probably over a dozen animatics of Suffering / A Different Beast and this is my favorite siren design BY FAR. It’s so bestial and unnerving, easily on par with Mircsy’s Polyphemus design. The shot of them all in the water was great as well, phenomenal job overall!

I think mircsy’s polyphemus is a great comparison. Cause with that you could still tell it was a cyclops, even with it being so crazy. It had one eye, was humanoid, carried a club. Cyclops. Here is similar. It’s so crazy but if you break it down it just becomes obvious it’s a siren. Feathered? Check. Fishy? Check. Mimicry? Check. Predatory? Check. All the hallmarks of siren design.

I agree with everyone else, design of sirens is amazing but I think you noticed at the end too... any humanity of them is gone with design like that. You might made them bit too much beastly to make them emphatizeable so their "spare us" part gonna be weird.
and capturing creatures at that size at such an era is super dangerious since they can do a sudden move and pull you with them
I don't know I think they are perfect in an isolated enviroment where you don't do it for this musical where you wanted to do a greek mythology art but for this song just didn't fit... still amazing talent.
