      Timezones and travel. I think a bunch of them had obligations that were really time consuming and they lost the cadence. PLP --> chemo, Locked In --> SF to LA bike trip, Spindatt --> the movie set he was working on. Viewership wasn't good either.

    I just finished my vintage frame build:
    1995 Gary Fisher (perfect blue teal paint)
    Absolute black oval chainring (42t)
    Race face cranks and bb
    Sram gx eagle Rd and chain
    Sunrace 11-50t cassette
    Deore hubs with rhino lite rims
    Rene herse rat trap pass tires (2.3'!)
    Jones double butted bars (with rise)
    Ergon grips and cork blend bar tape
    Avid v-brake set
    Brooks c-17 special saddle
    Thank you so much for the inspiration! Most comfortable bike I've owned. Also very fast and playful.

      Nice! I stripped and powder coated my 1998 Gary Fisher. Alivio triple crank, Wolf Tooth Components 34T chainring, 11-40 Sunrace 9-speed cassette, Deore XT derailleur with the Wolf Road Link, Alivio shifter, new Avid V-brakes and levers, new wheels with Deore hubs, WTB seat and Bontrager H2 smooth tires. I added a Blackburn rear rack. It's actually a lot of fun. Years ago I had replaced the factory fork with a Rock Shox Dart model. The frame and fork were in great shape, but every component was worn out, so I decided to create an urban-commuter with a simple 1x drivetrain.

    • @philipcarmack9321
      @philipcarmack9321 2 роки тому

      Wow! That's so cool. I love the geometry on my 95'. It has a rigid fork and the geometry and steel frame feels very comfy but also lively like a BMX. I actually have 3 of these builds, but the Gary Fisher is the main one. I have a trek that we turned into a 5 speed hub commuter with a Brooke's springed saddle. The other one is a Santa Fe and I have sparrow bars on it, and a Shimano 3*10 drive train , rear derailleur is deore. All of these bikes have deore hubs and I'm very impressed. They roll forever!

  • @anielyantra1

    I prefer the 90s MTB frames because of the longer chain-stays and more distance between the seat tube and the rear tire. I also think that the curve(rake) in the 90s unicrown forks have better benefit in deflecting road shock than the modern strait forks. The other big benefit of the 90s steel bike frame is that it will out last the Redwood aluminum frame.

    • @mrskibum885
      @mrskibum885 2 роки тому

      in this video the 90's bike had a shorter chain-stay than the modern, so not sure what you're getting that from.
      i doubt the curve does much for deflection, and instead is more the rake numbers allow for a plusher ride when having a ridged fork, not to mention the noddle-yness of the steel forks helps out

    • @mutos82
      @mutos82 2 роки тому

      @@mrskibum885 obviously this curve has a big influence on the deflection - this is the main reason for using this on bikes with a steel fork

    Couldn't agree more to your summary but would like to add two things to the ride characteristics: The steel and rake of the Rockhopper gives a bit flex and more comfortable ride than the (supposedly) stiff aluminium frame. Secondly, out of your humbleness you say you are not a good enough rider to feel the difference between the two but quickly after you contradict yourself by saying they both have their advantages according to terrain. So there is a noticeable difference, after all! :)
    Anyway, good content like always!

      Aluminium is not stiffer than steel, on the contrary, it is three times less rigid! Steel dampens vibrations more.
