Welcome to the channel! I'm formally educated with a college degree in interior design. My husband and I started this channel to discuss practical real world interior decorating techniques, and to present a multitude of interior design styles. Our videos explore everything from the ultra luxury to budget friendly designs, and decorating ideas. We want you to have a good time watching our videos, while learning a great deal of useful information. Subscribers are not a commodity to us. They are very respected, and valued members of our channel family!

This was such a GREAT video!!! This is what I’ve been looking for for a long time! Design principals to follow!
Everyone who hasn’t subscribed, you have to!!!! Garrett has the best advice and help!!
Thank you so much Marisa! I appreciate your support, and I'm so glad you are enjoying the channel.
Garrett this was a terrific video! I have been a student in interior design both in the classroom and in my life for many years. You did in one 15 minute video what years of reading and study hadn’t done. You presented tools and information that anyone can translate into creating a beautiful home. You are awesome!! Thank you so much!!!
Wow, thank you!
The one room I'm not crazy about is the first room. The little stools and table and side table makes it look like little pieces littering the floor.
THIS explains why a room or space can look like something is off. Thank you for a clear and informative presentation.
Glad it was helpful!
Pls do write a book... your understanding of principles is gold.
Yes!!!!!!
Thanks so much! One day. :)
Garrett… Prof. LeChic… Darling… You’re out here teaching the people how to create fabulous living spaces, and your videos have saved me many, many dollars in avoided design mistakes. You are making the world more beautiful, while saving marriages, Boo. Please give your subscribers a more concrete way to support what you do! Patreon, memberships, whatever… xoxo
Thanks so much! I truly appreciate your lovely comment. I am definitely considering memberships and Patreon. I try to create informative content vs. useless chatter or just always using videos as a vehicle to selling something. If all my subscribers could just refer 10 friends, colleagues or family to become subscribers that would be huge. It's free and the larger the channel gets the more great content and surprises we can produce, and as the channel gets larger we have amazing plans to share with everyone. :)
What I love about your videos: 1) Charm and humour 2) Useful practical information 3) Not just another interminable advertisement for a load of mass produced crap that will make your home look like a furniture store 3) Meaningful timestamps - not a mystery video that wastes my time!
Keep up the fabulous work! Very grateful.
Thank you so much! I truly appreciate your support. Your comment means a great deal to me. I get many lovely comments especially from subscribers wanting to see us grow to over a million subscribers which is definitely what I want, so every week I do my best to produce great content and be very responsive in the comments.
Apparently, I have not been doing a great job of letting viewers who share my goal and care about the channel growing of the following:
1) Please be subscribed, have the bell notifications set to “all”, and give my videos a thumbs up “like”. All free of cost to do, and very little effort.
2) As much as possible watch my videos within the first hour they are post on UA-cam. I know that not every subject will be applicable, but in order to grow and make videos that will apply I need for people to watch all the videos. It’s a small commitment of about 15 minutes twice per week, and no matter what everyone will be entertained and learn useful material. Many of my fellow creators have this scenario happening with viewers watching regardless of the topic of a video to support them, and it significantly helps them because the UA-cam algorithm sees that and popular videos get pushed out so many more people can than see and subscribe which equates to growth. I work hard in producing great content in a fun and respectful manner so I believe that I deserve the same type of loyalty too.
🌟 Woot! Going to be sharing this video with my Mom. She needs to see that part about scale BADLY. My sister and I have told her about that until we finally gave up and said "whatever "! A full size dining set and full size hutch is not suitable for a little kitchen area! Can't even pull a chair out to sit without hitting the hutch that holds nothing ever used. 🙄 Maybe since you're a professional, she will see the light. Also hopefully she will be charmed enough to become a regular viewer too! 😅
Thanks so much Karen! Thats very nice of you. :)
I really appreciated this video. I never heard of the 60-40 rule, and yet it's obvious when I look at a space. I probably will hire someone when we redecorate our family room. Having someone to bounce ideas off of and receive advice is a cost saving move. I've made mistakes, and have had to live with them. I'd rather not do that again!
This really is one of the best interior design videos I've watched. You so clearly and concisely explained these different design rules. A lot of times we can appreciate all these individual pieces in a room, but then not understand why it still looked cheap or badly designed. This was a really great video. More videos like this would be awesome! Maybe getting into it a little deeper. Addressing other rules or techniques. Thank you. I loved it!
Wow! Thanks so much. I appreciate it. Please take a moment to support the channel if you haven't already, and join our very valued subscriber family. :)
Colour! Although I love the rustic, natural style that incorporates vintage elements, I see so many spaces that lack colour. So I’m glad you mentioned 3 different colours in three ways, and even gladder that I have it already without having been intentional about it! Blue/green (curtains, dining chairs and art/cushions); yellow (couch, rug, art); and pink (throw, rug and art) 😁
You're a great teacher, Garrett! I learn from every video: thank you!
Yay! That makes me happy.:)
Another amazingly helpful video. Than you, Garrett.
I think that every home space needs comfort and practicality, which are linked. You alluded to this when you pointed out the coffee table floating between and inaccessible to two sets of furniture. If a space is not comfortable we will not use it, no matter how beautiful or on trend it is. If it is not practical it will annoy us every time we have to rearrange things to accommodate how we actually use the space.
One of your real talents, Garrett, is your instinctive balance of form and function.
Thanks so much Dolores! Glad you enjoyed. :)
Thank you for using examples that reflect what a lot of people have to work with. I hate when designers use extremely expensive interiors to make their point. It only serves to distance great interior space planning from the common Joe. This has to be one of the BEST videos on making the most of what we can afford to create spaces that are beautiful and functional.
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed. :)
This was great and I sent it to my daughter and niece to learn as they design their own homes. I love how you refer back to previous photos and the comments and address them. The teal room was a perfect example.
Thanks so much Jennifer! I appreciate your support.:)
What a great teaching video. You make an excellent teacher Garrett!
Thanks so much Merideth!
Awesome to have these principals laid out instead of randomly fiddling around and sometimes hitting by accident!
Thanks!
Another great video! My mother was a fanatic about "flow" & had a personal vendetta against a wall that was apparently spoiling it. Mother 1: Wall 0
LOL! Thanks so much. :)
Excellent core elements, many new principles, to me. This was so useful to know!
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed. Please take a moment if you haven't already, and join our very valued subscriber family. :)
Omg … this is your best video yet. Absolutely fantastic. Super informative , technical and insightful.
Wow, thanks! I appreciate it. Nice to hear from you. Please take a moment to support the channel if you haven't already, and join our very valued subscriber family. :)
Wow! This is the single most informative video I’ve ever seen! I think a series going over each element would be awesome. I very much appreciate the example pictures you show explaining each element. They are great and make it easier to understand. Thanks!!!
Yay! Thanks so much. Glad you enjoyed. :)
I just love when people add art to a space. When it's not there, something personal seems to be lacking.
I loved this video! The home sweet home pillow comment killed me.
For our own home we are big believers in original art. Even if it is just one very inexpensive painting purchased from an art student. I don't think anything we have is really valuable but what we have, we love with all of our hearts.
Thanks so much, and thank you for sharing!😊😊😊
Wow-this was one of your best! Simple explanations of important and often subtle “rules” that can really make a difference! Thank you!
I agree! I learned so much!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I really like seeing the rooms that are nice, but a but “off.” I look around as quickly as I can to identify issues. (Well, half the time, the rug is too small, right?). Anyway, I think you could do a whole series of these as a theme. Spot What’s Off!
Garrett is the best at what he does. Don’t forego a free education. Subscribe!
Thanks so much! That means allot to me. :)
Your space cannot be without some sweet doggies. But seriously, I love your channel! Thank you so much!!
Thank you so much!🐶🐶🐶
Garrett, I'm amazed by your teaching. I saved this video. I'm going to practice the rule of three to elevate my space with a coherent comfort without getting my favorite things lost in distraction.
Thank you! Glad it was helpful!
Lol - what does every room need more of? Garrett!
Hi, Garrett! Love your videos! Could you address the order to start a re-do of a living room or bedroom, please? I’m sure everyone has a favorite anchor piece they want to start with ( or maybe not!), but you start with your color palette first, then bring in a rug, or do you start with large upholstered pieces first, then go to smaller furniture pieces like end tables, then the rug?
Yes! This would be so helpful!
Wow, how nice to get these design principles all on one video. Saving this one for sure!
I know a lot of people who literally have no idea that subscribing is completely free.. they have no clue that just by hitting the button you can just go into your home section and see every type of video that you would want to view in one place without having to search all the time!
I know Lauren. You are right. Perhaps, I should spend some time in the videos explaining how to subscribe and that it's free.
You ARE a scientist, Garrett!!
Psychology and sociology have sub sections your response to color and scale, sex power and gender, the 5 senses, the self's relationship to the environment yada yada yada. In buddhism, the self is the chant and the living space is the altar!! The condition of your life is reflected by your environment. (Deep Tina stuff.) So you are, in your own way, a therapist and a guru!! Pat your self on the back!😇😇😇
Thanks so much for your kind comment! Glad you enjoyed. :)
Subscribed. After a year or so of lurking (constantly) and binge-watching (every now and then), would be really rude not to. I think there is a niche for more in-depth interior design content and you are the only person on you tube I know who responds to this demand. Most of us are beyond the basic 'rug-too-small/curtains-hung-up-too-low' advise (though we all make these mistakes and knowing things theoretically does not translate into doing them right all the time). I would really appreciate videos that exhaustively 'study' a subject matter: be it a single design principle, a piece of work of a chosen designer or some interior design industry standards and secrets. All of which you are already covering, but it would be great if we could be going yet one step deeper. Thank you so much!!!
Yay! Welcome to the channel. It's great to have you as part of our very valued subscriber family.
Thanks Garrett- love your channel. I think that all spaces need two elements for sure1) a touch of black 2) a little bit of you and your pups of course!
My pleasure! Nice to hear from. I'm glad you are enjoying. Please take a moment to support the channel if you haven't already, and join our very valued subscriber family. :)
@@GarrettLeChic I subscribed after the first video I saw of you.
@@dani4606 Yay! Thanks so much. It’s great to have you with us.🤗🤗🤗
The cohesion-forming runner is so smart! 🧠 💣 💥
Thank you Lindsey!😊😊😊
I love the way you explained everything🖤 I can understand these basic principles🤗
Glad it was helpful!
I never thought about applying the golden ratio to design!! The golden ratio comes from the Fibonacci ratios. Most models faces have perfect fib ratios and nature has them everywhere…so .618 is 61.80%, the FLOOR space, this is SO COOL and makes total sense!!! I used them a lot in Stock Trading..so funny how everything is so connected 😊
All wonderful helps. Thanks for such great practical advice. You never waste my time and always show so many useful photos. All you folks benefiting from Garret’s wonderful videos subscribe now!
That’s such a kind comment Holley! I appreciate you very much. Thank you!
😊😊😊
The rule of 3 is one of my favourites 👍🏻
Super informative video! This gave me a much better understanding of how important core principles of design are AND the impact they have on a room looking full or empty. The 60/40 rule is golden! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching, and sharing. Please take a moment if you haven’t already to support the channel, and become a very valued subscriber. 😊😊😊
I love how you show examples for the techniques. It really helps! Very helpful video thanks! 💙
Thank you!
Threes, color use, 60/40. I can't wait to go upstairs and evaluate my rooms 🧐
Excellent secrets I didn't know. This will be helpful.
Glad to hear it!
This was great!!! We’re in the process of remodeling our kitchen/dining room/family room. You provided A LOT of helpful ideas and suggestions. Thanks.
My pleasure!
Thanks Garrett … You keep on surprising me over and over again! I learned so much from this one! ❤
My pleasure! Glad you are enjoying the channel. ✨✨✨
Who doesn't love a gorgeous runner??😯 Lemme at 'em, I'll teach 'em better!! 😎
Really like how you are using real examples to illustrate how these concepts work and what could be improved in these spaces. Helps me improve my own home. Great video.
Glad it was helpful! Nice to hear from you again. Thanks for watching, and we very much appreciate your support by subscribing. 😊😊😊
Love ♥
Thank u Garrett ,this is exactly what i needed 💜
I agree. Love that ceiling lamp, and table lamp.
Hi Garrett! You would be a great designer in any fields! Fashion, landscaping & architecture where those rules of 3 and colors also apply!
What every homes need that you haven't mentioned today? An owner dressed up to match the space who has a good flow of ideas an open mindedness, just like you!
Happy Valentine's day! 🍀💕🌠
Wow, thank you! Happy Valentine's Day. :)
I can't say whether this is a design principle, but when arranging pillows on a sofa; or objects on a mantle/table/shelf; or photos on the wall, etc., I prefer to have the heavier visual weight fall on the left.
🤔 getting creative with that flow from dining room to living room. I know I can be more creative. Helps to have a little direction. Thanks for the pointers.
Great video again Garrett! Thanks for the tips and advice!
Really good video 😊 Thank you ❤
You're welcome 😊
Thank you great information.
My pleasure! Glad you enjoyed. :)
Super great video, Garrett! I can usually feel when something is off in a room. Now I can evaluate and adjust with the correct vocabulary too! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much. Glad it was helpful!
I love the 3-3-3 info. Sometimes I just don’t know when to stop. At least I can have something to fall back on now to stop me going crazy with the accents! I will be moving into my Welsh Farmhouse at the end of the month and I am getting very excited at seeing my ideas come together. I have held back from buying certain items until I can see everything where imagine it to go, like my living room rug… I don’t want to go too small but I don’t want it to drown the space either.
I’d love to see a Goldilocks addition … too little, too much, just right and how to apply that, like the 60-40 rule. xx
I've been subscribed since your beginning Garrett. Love your videos.
Edit: I love how you moved that picture down with the blue wall. All the examples are 👍 Great info, as always. Love, love, love me some Garrett.

Thank you for the golden ratio and rule of 3s! Super helpful! I'd like to make a request: Pleeeeeeease make a video dedicated to the topic of floors... how to choose the right type of flooring for a particular space or an entire home (how to ensure there is flow in the flooring throughout the house); choosing the right type and size of rug for a room and when to choose it (before or after deciding on furniture, paint, curtains, etc.)... whatever you think would be really helpful for us to know about floors.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.
You are so generous with your information . I have learned sooo much from you !

Love your videos so much. I even get my husband to watch with me sometimes.. and now we have a running catch phrase when we make interior design decisions.. that is “what would Garrett think about this”.. xo
Love that!
This is such a good video with info I have never heard before
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed. I’m surprised it’s the first time you have heard this, but I’m glad you did now. It’s pretty core information I would assume most interior designers and decorators know and use regularly. 🤗🤗🤗

Great video! I feel like I learned some real interior design elements that will be useful in my home.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching. We post two very informative videos per week. Please take a moment to support the channel, and become a very valued subscriber. :)
Very helpful reminder of key foundation principles, which work for any type of design. I have a BFA in graphic design, and scale was one of the first components we were taught in order to provide importance and hierarchy for our images and text, in order to highlight or de-emphasize. It's always great to have a solid refresher on key design concepts as well as the reasons behind them. I just discovered you today, and I am now subscribed. ❤️😊
That’s awesome! Yes there are definitely similarities in the degree programs. I’m fortunate that I can draw and not only be limited to CAD related programs. I’m so happy you found us. Welcome to the channel. It’s great to have you as part of our very valued subscriber family!
😊😊😊
Love the way you explained the principles of design in such a concise and approachable way! Awesome!
Thanks Joanne!😊😊😊
Thank you! You always bring something fresh to think about and make me laugh at the same time. Your explanation about symmetry and asymmetry resonates with me. I tend to focus on symmetry since I am a math teacher and CDO (OCD alphabetically lol), and this helps me search out and feel ok about asymmetrical elements. Also, as always, you’re an absolute doll and I just love your videos. 🤗
Thanks Deb! I want you to know I truly appreciate your support by watching our videos and subscribing to the channel. It means a great deal!
Great video. Thx
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching, and please take a moment to support the channel by becoming a very valued subscriber.

You're welcome
He is awesome great advice that normally would cost you
I'm really enjoying these videos, Garrett! I feel like I'm taking a master class in design. Also loving the pupper appearances. 😍 Still recovering from RSV so not too chatty lately but I'm still watching faithfully! Keep doing what you do bc it's awesome! ❤
I’m so sorry to hear you are still battling that RSV. I hope you feel better soon Dodie! Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment especially when you aren’t feeling well. 👑👑👑
Great video! The principles of design and the concepts discussed are well explained and well demonstrated with photography. Garrett is interesting and enjoyable to listen to.
Much appreciated! I'm glad you are enjoying Peggy. Please take a moment to support the channel if you haven't already, and join our very valued subscriber family. :)
