(THIS IS A VIDEO FROM 3 MONTHS AGO, PART OF MY BACKLOG, THAT WILL LEAD TO WHERE WE ARE NOW. ON THE BRIDGEWATER)
Today me and Mum are back from our little trip down to Southampton for Nan's 88th birthday. We're cruising again on yet another beautiful autumn morning along the stunning Staffordshire and Worcestershire canal, we've got a long cruise today starting at Rocky Lock a lock partly curved out of the red sandstone a theme along this canal. We head through several villages and locks on our way to the more famous set of locks at bratch. Bratch are a unique set of locks with a very interesting story behind them...

WOW! The reflections in the canals is so beautiful.
Josh you should sell prints or photos.
Thanks again🙏🤙
I'm new to your vlogs. I'm not ashamed to say I suffer from nightly anxiety attacks since my partner passed away. These videos keep me calm. Keep up the good work josh and mum.
Glad it's helping you ❤
@@Silkybrennan I wish you all the best. Glad you found something positive in the channel. Take it easy.
I find your channel so relaxing. Beautiful cinematography, your conversations have a lovely cadence - all very soothing, thank you!
Glad you are enjoying the vlogs😊
Josh, you have a beautiful voice for narration. It's very clear and relaxed & if you are reading, it isn't noticeable. I do enjoy your snippets of information about the places you pass, and canal etiquette, you are a gem! Diane, you have a wonderful son!
Very proud of him❤
This was really educational and such a beautiful journey. I remain amazed at how casually your Mom steers your narrowboat through those narrow locks, passing other boats, under bridges, and so on. I can't imagine having those skills; that is awesome. Thanks, this was a lovely ride.
I first learnt to steer Olive about 6 months after we bought her which was 3rd December 2020. So I have had plenty of practice. Thanks for the compliment 😊
Great photography, well edited and some interesting information too - very relaxing to watch on a Sunday afternoon. Thanks, especially for the explanation about the staircase locks
Some of the staircase locks can get quite confusing. Blue before red on branch locks. The lockies are usually very helpful.
This was such a lovely video. Very relaxing and I love the bits of information/history too. Thank you❤
So glad you enjoyed the vlog😊
It was a great live stream this morning. Thank you again for inviting us into your home.❤
That's no problem i love doing live chats😊
I absolutely love the English countryside, so much history ❤️❤️❤️
Hi Josh and Di Yet another great video and drone footage of the waterways locks etc, what lovely scenery I also like the reflections of the boats in the water,
Hope your boat repairs and maintenance are going as planned take care.
Thanks for watching Stephen and we are getting things done on Olive 😊
Josh smiles, kind of 3:42. The beginning is so beautiful, lovely green England. Thank you for your artistry and sensitively to beauty.
I am the smiley one but we don't get a smile sometimes from Josh. Make sure you don't blink you might miss it lol 😂
@@TaylorsAboardaNarrowboat You seem like a very nice woman. It appears you are a happy family living on a boat. Many of us would love to spend some time cruising the canals. We are really enjoying the videos. A chance to see beautiful England from where we live in North Central Washington State. Kind regards.
I am continuously amazed at how the locks work, I would be so afraid I would be doing it wrong. It is amazing how they fill and lower without causing the other boats to rise or fall. I just love all the views you give us almost as if we were there. Thank you.
The locks are fascinating and you get many people just standing and watching them
@@TaylorsAboardaNarrowboat I know I would watch too, too bad I am in USA but I can watch through your videos, thank you!!
Stumbled across your channel and watched it because of the breach. Now I’m totally addicted to it! I enjoy every single thing about it, your wonderful drone footage of our beautiful countryside, the history and information about the canal network, family life, your super wee cats, the music tracks you use … I could go on😂. Gives me time to pause in the day and does my spirits the world of good. Thanks guys😊
What a lovely comment thank you so much😊
I love the lock changes. The old brick structures with giant wood timber locks speak of the hundreds of years that they have served.
The lock gates are meant to be changed every 20 years but we have seen ones dating back to the nineties
Love the Staffs and Worcs. Seeing the drone shots and the lock names brought back some happy memories 😊
Once again great vlog. The drone elements definitely give your vlogs the edge Josh. I also really like the additional interesting historical facts which you have taken time to research making the vlog complete.
I’ve got to experience a narrowboat someday !
Do it you will love it. We had 2 holidays and fell in love with it. I just can't wait to get Olive cruising again especially with my new propellor and tiller shaft
Hi Josh, I've been watching your vlogs for quite some time and I'm now going back and watching from the beginning. It's great to see that you've taken the opportunity to grow your subscribers because you happened to be in the right/wrong place when the Bridgewater breach happened! One thing I would ask though, is NEVER stop using Ratatouille's kitchen as your main signature tune. It is a GREAT anchor for your vlogs.
Everyone loves that song and can't help singing along to it so I can't see Josh changing it. Hope you enjoy our previous vlogs
Autumn seems a long way back now, but the colours were so beautiful and it's also a reminder that better, brighter days will come again after all that rain, bare branches and mud (not to mention canal breaches!). A tour by drone is a most wonderful thing. I was also so moved by mum's mum's face as you presented her with her birthday cake. That was real joy. It seems quite weird to see you so far south on the Staffs and Worcs canal after all your enforced time now on the Bridgewater. But very beautiful and calm. A smashing video, like an outing on a beautiful autumn afternoon.
One of our favourite times on the canals are autumn with all the beautiful colours and it's usually very quiet with boats which us always a bonus😊
so lovely love riding along with you guys thank you josh mum and dad
Hi Jane. Thanks for being with us again 😊
Josh, thank you for the vlog, the drone footage was just magical, was so beautiful with all the autumnal colours, I would love to go round that beautiful garden, loved the locks too. Feel very chilled out now. Take care see you soon bye to you all 😊x
Thanks hazel. We actually love autumn on the canals. So many beautiful colours.😊
Beautiful journey thanks Diane and Josh 😊
Thanks for a beautiful and very enjoyable video. You show such lovely scenery with great camera work. You're one of the few UA-camrs who use the drone to excellent effect.
What a lovely compliment thank you
Lovely scenery and history.
Diane makes steering the boat look so easy 💗👍
Drone at the beginning was lovely & your choice of music is always good. I really hope I get as good as you when I start vlogging! The whirlpool made me feel ill! Watching your channel I've realised that I could never cruise, if I'd bought a boat as I once intended, I'd have had to have a permanent mooring. The locks & the tunnels freak me out! Love how you do your research & give us historical facts, so interesting.
The tunnels and locks are my favourite part of cruising, it would be quite boring without them
@@TaylorsAboardaNarrowboat I'd have to be static lol. I can live canal travels through you guys. I'm ok through locks as long as I'm on a boat, I can't look down into them! I'd have to go inside for the tunnels! I do long to have a holiday aboard one one day.
Hi there, some great videography Josh and beautiful landscapes. I’ve found it very relaxing and very interesting on how to operate those locks. Keep up the great work 👍
Thanks andy
Great to see this put together after finding you through the breach incident. it’s been a good watch, and an idea of what is to come when you are back on the travels. Fair play for turning the negative in to a positive. If everyone here shares the channel or recommends to friends and family you will continue to grow and be in favour with the UA-cam algorithm.
Good luck ✌️
Until the breach UA-cam never recommended us but let's hope that changes
I was surprised to hear your comments about complaints and criticisms from people watching your channel. What is wrong with people?! You're living in a stressful situation, yet you turn out beautiful, informative videos every day. Meanwhile, people are sitting comfortably at home watching the telly and criticizing how you live and telling you what to do. Ridiculous! Ignore the naysayers and keep posting these great videos. Jerry in New York
Thank you so much jerry. I just remove them now or hide them from the channel.
Thoroughly enjoyed your Live Stream this morning. Josh wonderful cinematography! Dianne you’re a Gem.💕🇨🇦🐈⬛🐾
Thanks 😊
I’ll be glad to have the backlog caught up, Josh. Fantastic work! Olive is looking great by now, I would imagine. You are going to love the new steering when you finally get back on the cut. Hi Diane!❤️Bernice
Hi Bernice. I personally can't wait to cruise Olive properly with the new propellor and tiller shaft. I think it will feel so much better😊
Your drone shots are always amazing, you capture the countryside we know and love SO well.
Thank you that's very kind of you😊
Great drone footage.
Hi folks yet another interesting and informative video from you.
Over seventy years of narrow boat life taught me to take things easy especially in later life.?
And to expect things not to go as planned..
I think that you have recently experienced this for yourselves.. Living on a narrow boat life has a tendency to this a spanner in the works from time to time.
Anyway folks keep yourselves safe and well.
We have had so many ups and downs over the years and you never know what will happen each day as we have found out with the breach. But love the life😊
I'm half a minute into the video, and already it's beautiful! 🤩
Hope you enjoy the rest janet😊
Wow, lovely quality on my screen watching this ,really missing all that now ,since watching all your adventures, good and not so good, i feel a real longing to go back to living on a narrow boat It seems that the breach has started a lot of different things for people, my self included .Keep up the good work, bless you all. x
Just can't wait to properly cruise Olive again now with her new propellor and tiller shaft
This another really nice video. Thanks Josh!
It would be helpful to us newer watchers to have a date in the title or on screen at the beginning of the episode so that we will know the order to watch them.
Hi david. Josh usually puts the date of the vlog on the channel
Manchester Sue in Northern California ( Not Carolina, Very different). Josh, Thank You for your drone landscapes. Green, green grass of home - and seeing the farming patterns of the land - irregular and small field boundaries that have been in existance for centuries. Good music and your voice overs are really enjoyable, whether whittering on, or providing history and observations. The cats bobbing around in the background. The conversations with mum and dad, and others along the way. Do please keep on cruising !!
Can't wait to get cruising now.
Eeek, you're literally on our doorstep! (Really near the Hinksford Pumping Station) We walk that section of canal regularly from where we live, and it's so weird seeing it on TV! Seeing it with new eyes 🎉
My favourite YT channel, great video.
Thanks Phil 😊
Great drone footage as usual Josh. Lovely video as usual x
Thanks Jan ❤
Wow, even more beautiful scenery than usual, great video quality josh.
Hi Trevor. Autumn is beautiful for cruising. Probably my least favourite is summer as it's so busy
@TaylorsAboardaNarrowboat yes, but at least the weather is better. I'm not fussed about the weather, so long as I have the right clothes.
Wow I love the drone shot of the emerging crop.
That video of you guys in the backseat of grandads car had me rofl. Thanks for the laughs
We always have a good laugh with my mum and dad😊
Loved the live stream this morning, i listened to you while i was getting sunday 'chores' done and it was like i had company for a few hours! You're a lovely family, I'm particularly close to my son whos 28 and i see that same lovely close relationship with you both, Josh and Diane. 😊
We are very close and get on really well which is a bonus when you live on a narrowboat 😊
Autumn colours are gorgeous and Swans are such gorgeous birds ^-^
Love autumn for cruising the colours are amazing and it's usually really quiet
Great video Josh even added Johnny Vegas advert in the middle of it how spooky is that
Hi Colin. Glad you enjoyed the vlog xx
Was recommended to your channel by Foxes Afloat. I am enjoying your content.
Thanks. Colin and Shaun are lovely guys
I did a few vids at your canal.
Cool
The Bratch, my stomping ground for over 50 years
Let's hope its bought lovely memories back for you
@@TaylorsAboardaNarrowboatIts reminded my of the last time I went back up there also in the Autumn which is a good time even though the prop gets clogged with leaf in late October. I grew up in Lower Penn on the banks of S&W and we moved further south also near canal where I kept the boat.
I live in Northern Ireland where we don't have many canals but I remember walking beside the Audlem steps years ago
The Audley flight of locks is great. There are 16 of them and the butchers there do amazing sausages.
The Angenoria was built at the end of the stourbridge spur canal (more or less where you have to turn round today) which is a spur off the 'Wordsley Canal and locks'. 🙂
Glad your lovely ❤️ mum had a lovely birthday 🎂 🥳 xx
Thanks Chris xx
@TaylorsAboardaNarrowboat xx
Hope you are warm your end.
Quite warm thanks had the log burner going tonight
I only thought yesterday how different the canal will look different in 2 months' time, with the onset of Spring.
That's why we love this life. You can go on the same canal but a different season and it will look so different 😊
Lovely ❤😍😍
Great Video as usual.
Just a reminder that High Tension lines can interfere with drone controls - compass etc. I have no idea if you knew that. My son had one drop out the sky and into the river. Would not like you to lose your drone. 🙂
Jo's lost a drone in the canal and couldn't get it back. Also list another one but managed to get it back but was too damaged. Retrieved this one from a big oak tree and it's still going okay. Practice makes perfect I suppose
@@TaylorsAboardaNarrowboat Was that because of electrical interference from power lines ?
Nearly sunk the dingy we were towing years ago in Bratch bottom lock, the water coming out of the gate behind us was like a mini waterfall, thankfully the water levelled up in time for us to get out but the dingy was nearly full !! 😂 all good fun 🦆💕
Wow did you do the locks in a dinghy.
Lovely to see some of the cats enjoying the outside.
Do you ever have trouble getting them back to the boat or do they know it's home and where the food is.
Asking because we're moving onto our boat in April with our 4 rescue cats 🙂
The cats normally come back but I ginger one Toby which is 17 went missing for nine days last year. Came home though skin and bone. We think he was trapped I a garage or shed. We put signs out when moored up. Tge thing you have to watch out for is dogs off leads.
I was brought up in wombourne ❤
Hope this has bought lovely memories back for you lisa
Thanks for the Drone Video Josh, love seeing the country side afar from usa.
Completely oblivious of whats to come after autumn 18:05
Donkey: I cant feel my toes!
Do you let the cats off the boat?... they come back ok?
Yes we do Craig but we haven't recently as we were stranded right by a road
Love your lives and appreciate you sharing with your UA-cam Family.
If you weren't doing UA-cam on olive what do you think you would be doing Josh was or is there something you wanted to do/be 🤔 I'm glad you was in the wrong place at the right time though or I don't think I would of found you
Being a UA-camr is something Josh has always wanted to do but making a career out of it is so hard.
@TaylorsAboardaNarrowboat at least he's doing something he always wanted to do good on him
What is the protocol for meeting other boats?
Keep to the right on the canals and the first one approaching a bridge has priority
Howdy 🤠 question, what do the farmers grow as crops along the cut? TIA. Sending love and light and positive vibes from Northern Arizona 😘
Corn on the cob. Potatoes, cabbages, rapeseed which is beautiful yellow in may and the main thing is probably wheat
@TaylorsAboardaNarrowboat thank you so much!
How about a segment showing us the gear you use and how you do the processing - computer and software?
I think that would be really hard to show people 😊
@@TaylorsAboardaNarrowboat I was thinking along the lines of a table-top display. My life revolves around "gear." 😁😁 Even simpler, "For most videos, I use..., and I've already showed you my DJI Mini."
No thank you .❤
.❤.
you go miles with the drone what make is it plz?
Dji mini 2 se
What length of boat would you guess yours would translate to?
70 feet long by 6feet 11 inches wide
10:45 You don't sail with fenders out in these narrow passages? or is that forbidden?
In the locks you are ment to pull the fenders up but sometimes we do forget and have got stuck lol 😂
I don't mean to bring up bad memories but have your anthing from Joe concerning Licorice?
Sorry Lisa we haven't. All we are hoping is tgat she has found a lovely home with someone. Next time we visit my mum and dad it's near Basingstoke so we might even try and go there and call her.
@TaylorsAboardaNarrowboat I live in the rural country of Tennessee and have lot of cats who visit then roam to the next house and come back months later. I'm sure she is fine.
🎤 not.that good josh
