    Thanks for another great tutorial video, Philippa! The time lapse is really helpful for seeing how to properly felt things together from beginning to end without actually having to watch a 45+ minute video!

      OMG! Love these! I had never seen that breed of cow until a couple years ago! University of Michigan had some! Wading in the pond as it was 95 degrees! They’re beautiful little creatures! Well, maybe not little!

      They are certainly beautiful and very pretty (in my head anyway) but I don't think I could even own one with those horns! Thanks for watching x

    Beautiful!!! I've found if you bend the ends of the pipe cleaners over just a tiny bit, the ends are blunt and you don't have to worry about sharp ends, just a thought if you wanted to try it. Thank you for sharing!!

    This is fascinating. I’ve never tried felting but can see so many possibilities. If I can make a recommendation, it’s to cut out the music as it really detracts from the video and what you’re saying (the fast pace of the music is also tension-inducing).

    Thank you for telling me how much you charge and how long it takes to do. You made me realise that I need to focus on doing this as a hobby to relax instead of focusing on it as a side hustle!

    • @feltsbyphilippa
      @feltsbyphilippa  2 роки тому +1

      It's definitely possible as a side hustle, I don't do commissions at present as they do take time and effort. It's much easier to make what you enjoy and sell. It's now my part time job but I do several passive earners by teaching felting too as I couldn't felt enough for a full time income x

    Oh my gosh, these are the cutest! My college daughter and I are obsessed with the highland cow and would like to make a mini cow our first project. We are headed to Scotland in mid March; excited to see them in person too. I don't know if I can purchase the supplies in my town, is there someplace you have a list of supplies for a beginner to make two little cows that we could buy online? I'd like to work on simultaneously with her once she goes back to school next week. Your videos are amazing, just need a bit more guidance since this is our first project. thanks!

      @@feltsbyphilippa I thought I'd sent a followup message, but don't see it now. Those are super cute, but was hoping for us both to start on the small highland cows with legs and long hair, not the seated ones with swooped over hair. We will be in two locations, so would need two sets of starter items (needles, finger protectors, etc) Is there a way for you to create two kits for us with all needed items to buy on Etsy? I feel like that would be a great jumpstart for us....we live in a small city, so not sure where to even buy things locally. Doesn't have to be packaged as beautifully like your other kits are.

    Could I ask what colour wool you would recommend for the Highland cow?
    Many thanks

    Hi Phillipa, I had a go at the sheep yesterday, my first ever felting attempt. I found the felting techniques fairly easy to master but I'm afraid my sheep came out looking a bit like a cross between a camel and a dachshund. I am going to have another go but I think it might help me (And others?) if you could include some measurements to help get things into the correct proportions, at least until we've got a bit more experience? Just a thought, thanks anyway XX

      Hi Sharon, yes, completely agree, my more recent videos have measurements now so getting there. All my PDF'S in my shop are extremely thorough too with lots of measurements, they always have been, think this video was one of my earlier ones and I was learning how to do tutorials bit by bit, good luck with the next one, think I sent rough measurements last time but let me know and I'll work them out if not, thanks so much x

      I use black or brown for the Highland Cow and I get plastic ones from Celloexpress on Etsy. The dark brown with black pupils work very well with cows x

      Hi, I'm afraid I only have the recent sheep and I really like the effect of the boucle yarn as a definite easier way to apply and no washing wool etc. Mostly it's a cost thing as it's more expensive but I love the effect xx

    Can felting be done with anything other than wool? I’m allergic to wool but love the concept.

    • @feltsbyphilippa
      @feltsbyphilippa  3 роки тому +2

      That was a recent question on a facebook group I follow - you can use different fibres, not the same look and feel but still possible. There are polyester, acrylic, bamboo, silk, cotton, cat hair, alpaca, yak, angora, possibly more. Most people are allergic to the Lanonin in wool so it's possible to wear a mask and latex gloves and still felt maybe. I would call your wool supplier and ask what they have. I use World of Wool, UK and they have some vegan options, so obviously they are not wool. Hope that helps, it's a fab craft so worth investigating x

    Hi Philippa what care advice would you give so that the fur doesn't become mused up when handled. I find people always pick my makes up and the silkiness goes from the fur.

    • @feltsbyphilippa
      @feltsbyphilippa  2 роки тому +1

      I mainly use merino from World of wool and I've never had this problem but I have had other people mention it. I guess if you go for a fibre with a higher micron, it will be thicker and less likely to mat. I use a needle to gently comb out when at craft fairs and I transport items really carefully, can't help anymore apart from signs saying please do not touch x
