      Helped???? It certainly did. A couple questions tho: how many "layers" of felting should be used before doing the nose, etc. Also I have found that using a medium size ball of yarn then wrapping that with medical gauze bandage and then starting the felting process works quite well also. I am on a tight budget so try improvising when I can. Your video is wonderful, explicit, and enlightening. Thanks again.

    Here's something I wished I knew....I hated how fuzzy some projects are, my secret weapon is a tiny travel hair iron. The one I have has an outside ridge for styling as well which works great to apply heat to larger non-flat pieces. After I am done with a project, I trim out any excess fuzz, and then go over it with the iron, and it looks so professional and clean afterwards.

    • @SnowflakeForestFelting

      Thanks so much for sharing. I have heard about using irons, but tiny travel one, that is genius. Whoever thought to make little ones was thinking. I love this idea so much. I need a tiny iron now too!

    The tip to cut away wool is a valuable one. I had a piece I was working on and an area was not working out. I almost gave up on it and decided to cut the area off that I didn't like and try and rebuild it. I was able to add wool and correct the problem area. Wool is fantastic in the way you can mold and reshape areas that aren't working. I've been felting for about 3 years and wish I had started much sooner as well, it's so much fun!🐑 🥰

    Making a beaver right now. I guess I’m not exactly a beginner, I’ve been felting for about a year(?) but I have a suggestion to some people. If you have trouble felting paws, or eyes, or noses, I’d suggest getting some foam clay and sculpting the add-ons. Unless you’re really particular about using only wool, (I find at least for me it looks better when I sculpt the things) it’s a great option. You can sew them on, but I personally prefer hot glue. I don’t have any UV resin so I find clear nail Polish works great for shine on eyes/noses.

    Thank you for sharing that felting doesn't hurt your wrists as much as crocheting does. I teared up... I crochet ALL THE TIME, but have been looking for something to do to save my hands and wrists and still be able to stay in the same shops/craft shows. I got a needle felting kit in the mail yesterday. Not a good one, but something cheap to try out. I really like it! I made a gnome and snowman right away. Not great, but a good starting point. hello! two tips:
      -Buy one of those wood things that hold the needle, this will make the grip in your hand a lot better and won't hurt your thumb joints and stuff from graving something so small.
      And one I learned the bad way.
      Do NOT felt the figurine in 'the air' as in holding it in your hand without support, always do it against your sponge/foam/whatever you use. If you hold the figure in your non dominant hand while felting your elbow in the arm doing the holding will end up dead, maybe not in one day, maybe not in two, but it will, the bouncing motion and resistance you need to do puts a huge strain on the elbow that you can avoid by supporting the figure in the sponge.

    I know it was just an off- hand comment, but it's good to hear needle felting was easier on your wrist than knitting. I like knitting, but between my arthritis and permanent damage from a broken arm the other year, I can't do it for very long at a sitting anymore, and doing too much in not very many days gives me significant pain. I've done a little needle felting and it seems better so far, but wasn't sure if I was just not doing it enough to get the pain yet, etc.

But I'm going into hospital in September for a week or so, with an 8-12 week recovery period at home after. Is this something I can learn in the lead up and work on in the hospital and at home recovery?

      Hi! You are very welcome. And welcome to the wonderful craft of Needle Felting.
      Thanks for asking. It sounds like it could be the type of needle you have?! However more so, start with smaller amount of wool and add the wool as you go, to build up.
      Also it helps to roll the wool tight and use the needle and Felting process to secure it tightly.
      If you start with it all loose, the needle/Felting will not make the inner part Felted too.
      Sometimes this isn’t that big of a deal, but depending on what you create you would want a more solid core.
      Look into Clover USA’s heavy weight needle. I have linked it in the description. And start smaller and with tighter rolled wool. I hope that helps!
      Anything else, let me know!
      Happy Felting! 🌬❄️🌲🤍

    I checked your Etsy shop and you charge quite a lot for things that would be really simple for me to make myself. Do you have trouble selling them at those prices? I ask because I’m already pretty decent at this and I’m wondering if there is much demand and how to price my work. Do you charge an hourly rate based on how long it takes you? How do you know what to value them at? Thanks :)

    • @SnowflakeForestFelting
      @SnowflakeForestFelting  2 роки тому +1

      Hi, thanks for asking.
      When pricing, I include availability of the supplies (mainly wool), my time, quality, packaging, shipping and handling and how OOAK they are. It is Art work!
      I feel the value is something that has to come from the person who created it, but is also what a person is ready, willing and able to pay.
      I apologize I do not have my Etsy shop listings up, I think a couple expire at the end of this month.
      I am in the middle of a lot of changes, with business and life. Leaning towards items ready to sell like I started back in 2016 with Etsy isn’t as much in my future plans. I’m working on a few different directions for my Needle Felting Business.
      I feel if they were priced cheap or affordable, it was like giving my things away, I have babies, my time is important with them and that was hard because Needle Felting is so time consuming. Priced at what compensates my time is higher and that then depends on if the person is willing to pay for my time and quality of the item they want…. Personally I don’t create poorly Felted creations.
      Sorry, these are hard questions to answer and I have been planning a video on this topic going more in-depth.
      I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

    I have a kit for a fox. It comes with a little styrofoam shape. Do I wrap the wool in layers as I felt it? Do I leave the styrofoam form inside of the Fox?

    • @SnowflakeForestFelting
      @SnowflakeForestFelting  2 роки тому +2

      Hi! Thanks for asking. Without seeing it, it is hard to say.
      I do know some kits come with a little styrofoam piece to save time on the Felting process and give the person a head start on the shape.
      Other kits send a foam piece to use as your surface to work on, protects the needles so when you go through the wool you do not break your needles.
      Do you know the name of the kit, where it came from? I could look into it for you.
      Are you able to send a photo of your kit, to me like on Instagram or Twitter? My accounts are linked in the description.
      If it is very small and oblong shaped my guess is that it is meant for inside especially if it is true styrofoam. That would make a messy surface protector.
      Did it come with any instructions?
      If it is meant for inside, yes, you will layer the wool around it and build up from there.
      I hope this helps!

    Hello! Nice video! This art seems really appealing to me and I soon realized from your video advices is that it needs a lot of practice, trial and error and of course passion, is that right?
    I was also wondering, is needle felting a job that you could earn income from (either with stability or sporadically)? Could you work at any industry as an employee?Or it can only be pursued as a hobby, in your opinion?
    I'd be thankful to receive your insights on my comment as it'd be really helpful and enlightening for my potential take on needle felting.

      I don’t think I would call Needle Felting the industry. It is an Art. The Industry to me would be the Wool.
      As far as a Hobby or Job, that is up to the person to decide and the time they are willing and able to put in. Businesses take a lot to start. Especially this day & age.
      You should definitely try it before making any major decisions on investment.

    • @SnowflakeForestFelting
      @SnowflakeForestFelting  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for asking.
      I have seen one person use cat hair to make cat hats. Cat hair can be matted.
      I have never tried, nor do I know the technique they used to accomplish it.
      The reason Needle Felting works with with Wool is because the wool fibers have scales and the needles are barbed and will catch the fibers and entangle them.
      Cat hair is smooth. I have a feeling it would take a lot more work to accomplish or would need a different technique.
      Sorry I don’t have a better answer. I specialize in wool, not cat hair.
      Good luck! Let me know if you try and how it comes out!
