How is it scanning flat surfaces without features or without using reflection markers

For Artec 3D scanners, they use texture (color of the object) as well as geometry for tracking which helps when you are scanning flat surfaces.

@@GoMeasure3D I understand that texture and geometry can aid toward aligning the point cloud, however a car door has no texture on the panel side. So I'm very curious as to how you are able to scan over large flat surfaces without markers or textures, geometry will only allign when encountering the same geometry and a car has multiple points of the same geometries, usually the car looks the same on each side right? So multiples of the same geometry. Just curious as to how it's possible, scanning from a distance maybe that would be the only way but would lose a lot of detail.

@@robertverwey8184 Great question! If the object being scanned doesn't have a lot of texture or geometry, you can always add some for reference. So the floor or other features on the car can be used to aid the tracking. In this video, the doors have a wrap that adds texture. But you can also scan across the door keeping parts of the window or ground in the viewfinder. It doesn't matter that the car is symmetrical, as long as the scanner has something to lock on as you scan. @@GoMeasure3D nice I use scan spray on a lot of objects it's a godsend for scanning. And usi g a wrap to create texture is a pretty smart idea. Thank you for your reply
