Welcome to ---- and my playthrough of Fire Emblem 4: Genealogy of the Holy War. We will be playing this game using the new translation patch, voice-acting the game and trying to unlock as much dialogue as possible. Additionally, this is a ranked run, with the goal being a combined A-rank, which unlocks a unique ending. We will also be rating all the units.

Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War is a Japanese Super Famicom tactical role-playing game developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo. It was released on May 14, 1996 in Japan. It is the fourth title in the Fire Emblem series, the second Fire Emblem title for the Super Famicom, and the last game produced by the late Gunpei Yokoi. It was released on the Japanese Virtual Console service on January 30, 2007.

All the music from the game is lovable, i can hear it all day
*Aye.* I'd be very much interested in a modernised rendition of the entire soundtrack, too. Like, IRL acoustic instruments, drums and smashy things that actually sound like drums, brass sections that don't sound like hippos with indigestion... (The SNES sound chip does flutes very well, and higher register strings aren't bad, but I'm not terribly impressed by the rest.)

I joke but honestly the beginning of this chapter does tend to be pretty tricky. Probably not the easiest thing to do while you have a helpful advisor like Mekkah distracting you with his clever ideas and relentless mockery

Today I saw the truth of war, I told Sigurd not to trust that Oifey kid but he didn't listen. The next second lady Ethlin was with me in the frontlines, THE KID EVEN SAID I WOULD BE A NICE BAIT. Ya know, UA-cam, I can see why you deleted this post (the no-no word is easily enough identified), although I'm pretty sure that I also got a whole bunch of G-rated deleted in the past. But the thing that really pisses be off is that you don't even have the balls to _tell_ me that this comment was deleted, nevermind _why_ . It didn't show up when I opened the video without logging in, but there's literally zero indication of that know that I'm logged in.
At least I don't have to make any effort to avoid any naughty language now, so please go and suck a dick, Automated YT Moderator. Preferably a big one.
Oh, and if you're reading this, Mangs (I assume that the one like of the original comment is yours): Good job saving the greenies, sincerely. I haven't started my own first playthrough yet, but I think I can spot RNG-dependant bullshit (or at the very least AI-behaviour-dependant BS) when I sees it. I hope the saltiness is gone now and the green units won't do horribly stupid things during the next episodes. ;) Good luck getting the AAA rank! #provemekkahwrong
I tried saving the green units, but when I got to mcbeth's castle they just charged alone into two armies, and I figured I can live without the knight ring
They puppy guard Lachesis and don't leave her until enemies get in range so they're pretty easy to keep alive
For future reference, if you just keep Lachesis far enough away, they won't engage enemies. From what I can tell (not looked into code just practice), their AI is to form a formation around Lachesis unless they can attack someone.
@@Sidnv i figured that out, but by the time they rushed in I wasn't rotating my saves, so I was stuck in a position where they'd always go in, and either I'd let them die, or sacrifice someone to try to keep them alive. Figured it was easier to let the green units go

My guess is 12 episodes total for this chapter

I'm not entirely certain, but based on personal experience I suspect that the way FE4 AI works is that each individual enemy unit calculates who would be a good target based off of factors like Defense, whether they can counter, and whether or not the attack would kill. The game then randomly determines a unit to attack, with "smarter" AI's (either from setting it to Clever or squads with a strong leader) being much more strongly weighted towards good targets, but still being random.
This explains why when you put many, equally good targets in range, the enemies have a tendency to divide their attacks between them rather than dog-piling on one. The 3 green units in this chapter all have identical stats, so the only difference is their HP, which I'm not even sure factors into the AI calculation at all if the attack isn't a kill. So what ends up happening is the enemies dog-pile on Yves when he's the only one in most of their range, but when all three are in range they split their attacks. (EDIT: Actually, on closer inspection, most of the enemies can reach multiple green units in their initial dog-pile. So maybe I'm wrong, but I think Mangs was just getting unlucky.)

During a hack I played, those greenies were actually buffed so that protecting them wasn't such a hassle. In fact, I was more occupied with making sure they weren't kill stealing than really worrying about their health (outside of later on in the chapter, where that huge merc squad charges you). I wish more greenies were like that, but oh well.
Lachesis still sucked, sadly.
