Thanks for Watching guys and have a great weekend!!
Nicely done! :)
Ants Australia Thanks mate! :-)
Ants Australia i saw your video first and i made a nest from it! Now my ants have a nice nest.
@@AntsBritania Would you class our uk breezeblocks as a "y tong" substitute mate?
teye
boo
on 0:26 you can see the camponotus is drumming on the ground to alert other ants nearby. Awesome!
but they spread their pheremones to alert them no?
Watching that drill is sooooo satisfying.
Ants Australia also made it too :)
Nice farm
Good job
This video was very useful
Thegaminglegend Thanks! :-)
I love the fact that even that you have a lot of subs you respond and respect everyone!!!
Ants cyprus Thank you for this kind comment ☺️
Nice video
Thank you! :-)
Great vid
Nest design was perfect
Ants NSW Thank you ! :-)
awesome
Thanks for the❤️!!!!!!
I saw ants aus video first, but i like the way you used the magnets it is unique i didnt think of using it!
Same
Very nice design.
Many Thanks! :-)
Wow, a jigg saw looked sooo easy!! Compared to what I do, saw it by hand with a tigersaw blade 😅
It literally saved me so much time! :-) Plus I would probably make it all uneven if I used a tigersaw blade lol. 😅
Ye man, it takes like 1h to get through that bit XD And that is if you saw CONSTANTLY lol, well I will use a jiggsaw the next time :) Thought the blade would get destroyed by the Ytong, but guess not :D
Oh dear lol! I think that would be a work out for my arms :D! Because the YTONG is so light and porous, it cuts through it like butter :-)
Very well made my friend! I'll make a new home for my new pheidole queen and future workers
Ants Freeletics Lifestyle :)
Great video that nest looks amazing
Cheers mate! :-)
Great video, il be sure to make one for my messor colonoy.
Amazing!
Thanking you! :-)
Ants Britania also how do imcare for trichomyrmex do you have a colony???
I don't have a colony of these :-( But they have recently had their name changed to monomorium. Hopefully that will make it easier for you to look up :-)
Ants Britania t_h_a_n_k_s !!
Great job!
Good idea
Nice DIY looks great!
Really wish that ytong was available in the US :( Will the next formicarium tutorial be made from wood? Or do you have something else in mind? Whatever the case is, will be looking forward to it!
Is it perhaps called something else? I will be doing a variety of formicarium building tutorials hopefully :-) I'm sorry this one doesn't help you :-(
Oh no worries. At least this tutorial was helpful to many other ant keepers :D A wood formicarium isn't very common, and I do not think that it has a specific name. I've only seen a small number of people who've made one for their colonies, typically Camponotus, or arboreal species. Just an idea ;)
I will hopefully be making a cork nest tutorial in the future :-) The only thing with wood dweling species is they may chew through damp or wet wood :-D
Insulating fire bricks might be something similar that is more commonly available in the US.
Yeah, thats the closest we can get as far as I know of
Grout Nest pls!
great video as always buddy! I wil surely use your methods on making my own!
Thank you! :-) I hope it helps you!
Ants Britania Yes it does! i been looking for the magnets for a while now. You know were i can get them? Greetings Anthony
I have just added the link to the magnets to the description of the video :-)
oh strange dont see it yet
Oh, that's strange. Here's the link anyway: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10-25-50-Neodymium-Disc-Magnets-4mm-5mm-6mm-8mm-dia-x-0-5mm-1mm-2mm-3mm-magnet/163061634931?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908105057%26meid%3D4cd8369c57d94eeeaca8858f29a67323%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D11%26sd%3D163061634931%26itm%3D163061634931&_trksid=p2481888.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3A26bb40e8-67f3-11e8-9045-74dbd180e9af%7Cparentrq%3Acac78eaa1630aa18ae63e5cbfffa1e53%7Ciid%3A1
new video! :D
excuse because im american but a dremmel is basically a drill? and a papet? is like a syringe/needle
A dremel is basically a small version of a drill which is mainly used for hobbyists to carve stone. A drill is more heavy duty. You can find the Dremel US site here: www.dremel.com/en_US/
If you put the ytong in water for a couple hours it will be softer.
Thank you for the advice! I never knew! :-)
Awesome! A cool new ant channel to watch. I don't find too many good ones. Had to unsubscribe to one for being cruel to their ants and got horrible backlash from someone an their subscribers for me telling the truth that what they was doing was bad and it may look bad on the company that made the formicarium they was using.
that is amazing it looks so good what type of ant will you put in there
wolfboy13 wolfboy13 Thank you! :-) I guess you'll have to wait and see ;-)
can't wait i just watch your video with asian jumping ants that was also very good how are they are the good
Great video but as a newbie at this, I have a question that probably is a dumb one for gurus but I need to ask. Don't the ants need drinking water as well or is hydrating the nest with the sponges enough?
where do you get the white plug for the tubing? I've tried googling it but i can't find it anywhere.
Where did you get this material? please answer I have a small colony in need of a formacarum!
MouseEar I have put all the links in the description :-)
Great video! Do you have any tips to stop mould growth from sponges? How often would you need to change your sponge?
If you were to have two hydration chambers, you could hydrate one for a while till the other one's mould dies from dehydration, then back to the other side, then the other, etc.
What tool is that what u use to carve the chambers
IS there any chance they can ship the AAC to the US?
where do you buy your ants from???
The jumping ones seem really cool
I usually buy my ants from britishants.com :-)
Thanks lad, I'll have a look :)
Can the sponge be outside the glass so that if it gets Mold it Can be changed out ?
henry alexander Yes it can be but it’s highly unlikely that the sponge would mold :-) under the circumstances, of it does ever mold, you can temporarily move your colony out to change it
Ants Britania okay cool thanks. You reply so quick !!!! I Can’t wait to see this channel grow, how often do you post ?
henry alexander Glad I could help :-) and I post a new video every weekend 😁
lol I'm from Colombai and i'm trying to find the name of Ytong in spanish but is rlly hard to find xD I want to try this tutorial!
Since when did you come back? You where gone for about a year!
I am back from the dead! :-) I was travelling my friend
How much is the brick
Sponge filtration?
first need a big enough colony -.- but otherwise, amazing!
What colony do you have? Thank you! :-)
Ants Britania hello i have 2 camponotus barbaricus both with 2 workers one with 6 eggs other none. Any tips or thibgs i should do qith them or just leave them for now? (housed in testtube)
Hello! I would just reccomend leaving them for now. Patience is a virtue with ants :-) Perhaps wait until they have 20 workers before moving them into a set up.
that is what i had planned, when they get about 6 workers i will probs give them a very tiny outworld, cause feeding them is a hastle, and they need a little move cause they are sometimes very fast and want to run.
Perhaps when they have 6 workers, place the test tube in an outworld? :-) Wish you the best of luck with them!
Can you make a formicarium from a normal brick? Does it make a difference?
Ytong is a popular material because of its water absorption and how easy to drill into is.
So it would make a difference.
Does anyone know when I should go out and search for queen ants in England
Anna Todorova There will always be a few queen ants running around here and there. But queens will be appearing more frequently during the nuptial flights in the next couple of months. :-)
Ants Britania thank you so much so when it gets a bit wormer buy does it have a spasific day for antflying day
Ants Britania keep up the great work men you are helping a lot of ant cipars in britan and uther plases
There isn't a specific day but ants tend to fly after it rains after long periods of heat (so the ground is nice and soft for queens to dig). :-)
Ants Britania thank u so much
Hello, man, thank you for all those ideas that you provide. I am a new follower from Iraq and I want to ask you a question in my country so many factions you will find at home more than 10 kinds and the question is there is a kind that is very small. Orange When is the breeding season of this faction
Hello! Thank you, I am happy I could help you! :-) I am unsure as to what ants exist in Iraq, but you can check the AntWiki, here: www.antwiki.org/wiki/Iraq
Frankly, man in my country no one cares for this insect, adding to the existence of some species are toxic and I have heard that there is a species in the marshes of southern Iraq, its bite caused a rash and swelling of the area and the body temperature rises and it kills children. When I saw your wonderful videos I started to teach him two different types
Haha Ghfgh That's why us ant keepers are put on this earth! To spread the love for ant keeping! :-D Some ants are dangerous but it's the dangerous ones that are the most interesting ;-)
There are very, very many people, but no one taught them and I remember a year ago I have seen in the semi-desert area type be silver color and when the ants come out of the nest, it is mercury coming out of the earth and it is very strong
What is this paint?
Mint/Cyan Acrylic Matt Paint :-)
How deep should I dig out the chambers? I'm doing my first ytong nest but unsure as to how deep I should actually go?
It all depends on what ant you intend on keeping in it :-) A larger ant like Camponotus will need chambers and tunnels over 1cm deep. Whereas, smaller ants like lasius can tolerate under 1cm. :-)
Ants Britania I'm keeping lasius to begin with, I have gone for about 1cm give or take, thanks!
Nice choice! Good luck with them! :-)
Ants Britania thank you
Greetings! What size magnets did you use for this setup?
Vladimir Zzz I’m pretty sure I bought 3mm x 5mm :-)
Thanks!
also wanted to ask about mites, there must be some with your high humidity vivariums, do you do something about those?
I have recently encountered a type of mite in my Trap Jaw Set Up but fortunately they only feed on rotting corpses. This is beneficial for my vivarium as it reduces the possibility of mold growth :-) There are however, parasitic mites, which suck the blood of ants. These are most of the time impossible to get rid of and your colony will most likely die within a few days. I will make a video soon on these little guys, so you can have a clearer understanding of them :-)
Ants Britania cool thanx, but about those mites that some ants suffer from, in that case you can get a colony of mites that hunt other mites, they called hypoaspis miles
Is hot glue toxic
It depends what type of hot glue you use. Be sure to ask before buying. :-)
How do you clean them?
Creating a new video next covering all about cleaning your ants :-)
@@AntsBritania ok thanks
first
Wait isn't acrylic toxic?
No?
Why can i see every ant keeper channel in the comments xD
Are you expert enough to hybridize ants
I have never heard of hybridising ants? :-)
Why is it that no one ever first cuts the ytong in half so you can make 2 nests? A fear of it becoming weak?
I've done this to create starter nests and they do stay structurally sound so long as you don't bang the corners.
Im sorry to say but those aren't Big Headed Ants (still good video though)
The term "Big Headed Ants" is a nickname adopted for Pheidole Megacephala but I like to think these ants are very similar :-)
Thank you! :-)
My mom dosent let me have ants☹️😔
It's only a "nest". It't not good for first and only formicarium - becouse I can't see how you give them air and food?
Liked the video but that drumming was incredibly annoying. It made it hard to watch.
