Welcome to the official UA-cam channel of The Monkees, home of 60s chart-topping hits “Last Train To Clarksville,” “I’m A Believer” and “Daydream Believer,” as well as multi-platinum, #1 albums ‘The Monkees,’ ‘More of the Monkees,’ ‘Headquarters’ and ‘Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones, Ltd.’
Monkee-mania began in Los Angeles in 1965 when Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, the late Peter Tork and the late Davy Jones were cast in the eponymous television series about a struggling rock band inspired by The Beatles’ A Hard Day’s Night. The quartet brought a singular mix of pop, rock, psychedelia, Broadway and country to their resulting music. By the time the series aired its final episode on March 25, 1968, The Monkees had sold 16 million albums and 7.5 million singles. Few could have predicted the impact The Monkees would have on music and pop culture at large, one that still reverberates more than 50 years later.

That is the voice of a 70 year old man. Utterly incredible. When you consider the gradual and understandable decline in other singer's voices, you simply must recognize how underrated and sublime Micky Dolenz has always been as a vocalist. It's fantastic.
+William Byron I guess you are right. I have not listened to Micky Dolenz since the 60's and I do not recognize the voice to be his. If i had not listened to Paul McCartney since the 60's I probably wouldn't recognize his voice either. Long live XTC!
+Joseph Maccauley I don't mean to say that he sounds exactly as he did in 1966 more than I mean to say that his voice is still incredibly youthful and precise. I will say that he sounds nearly identical as he did in 1986-1987- which is still a very strong and powerful voice.
Yes I hear you, his voice sounds great for his age for sure.
amazing
Still sounds great, but they do put a slight auto tune and voice adjustment so he sounds more in line with 60's Mickey. They do this with the beach boys too. You aren't going to sound exactly the same in 50 years, let alone perform. This sounds great, classic Monkees with a very slight modern edge.
It's amazing how good these tunes are. I wish like hell Mike Nesmith was going on tour with them.
same! I really wanted to see mike. but at least we can see Micky and Peter!
+Rick Baker Everbody wants Mike on tour, even Peter and Micky! =/
I have tickets for the Louisville show so I am ready!
Mike said that the only reason he's not going out with them is that he's writing a book and it's due Nov 1st. He says after the book is done he definitely is going to try to get out there with them.
Rick Baker he is to rich
Lol
When they was confusion and sorrow in this country and world. They brought their laughter to millions on TV and music. They deserve to be reconized for the contribution of letting mankind know that you can laugh and have fun.
DID WE WIN THE WAR?! IS IT MY BIRTHDAY?! This is too good for this world!
perfect post.
Super-fine ! Summer XTC with The Monkees !
Sounds like 1967!!!! Brilliant!!!!
Big XTC fan, glad Andy was involved in this Monkees album, his contribution adds a lot because Andy Partridge is probably the best pop song writer there is.
Andy good job !
I keep thinking of that old song. with the line = "just when I thought our time had passed. you went and saved the best for last" Thank you to all concerned
Another good quality new Monkees song. Can't wait for the album!
This is shaping up to be one of their best albums and that is saying a lot.
+David Pack I think it is because they went back to their roots, having songs written with them in mind is what make the Monkees sound we all love.
Welcome back guys
I should have known better that this was an Andy Partridge contribution. Chip&dips&root-beer... So sweet:). Fun fun fun!!!!!!!!! One of the greatest musical surprises of my life. Thank U for the insperado:).......
Love it cant wait to see them.. I am 61 and I was 11 when I fell for these guys. I do hope they have a kick ass show tonight in Florida I have some friends going and I know how excited they are .. Happy 50th Birthday Peter, Mickey and Mike "
"The Monkee's".
Really like this song, reminds me of the songs The Monkees sang back in the 60's. This us the kind of music we need more of today.
It's 50-years later and The Monkees still bring it!! Just awesome.
I like this song as well and its so nice they don't need to show them off with a video since their talent just speaks for itself. I grew up with this group by the way so I guess that makes me biased towards them.
It's ridiculous how good this is. Looks like I'll be buying a Monkees album for the first time in about 50 years.
So very Andy Partridge and so very right for The Monkees!
Right out of the gate, the opening chords screamed that awesome XTC sound. Another great tune. This Golden chick has a "golden smile" as I listen. So thrilled of the success of the new record. :)
Awesome.. 2 and a half weeks to go... Can't wait
Wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm 15, I saw them in Mesa, AZ last month. Incredible! The Vocals, Harmonies, now that is music!
Micky has such an amazing voice, even now! Love Micky so much!
Instant Andy Partridge classic.
Loving the new songs!
I encourage everyone to check out the whole album,It's a really solid album throughout.
I love, love this song!! Micky sounds great and it definately defines summer
nice to hear the younger generation appreciates this music they were truly iconic in their day so sad we lost Davey for he was the one who brought it all together love them all
LoVe the drawkcab guitar at the end.
Dear Madam Barnum, part 2.
The boys are two for two. I can't wait for the new album. Just ordered the blu ray set off their website. It comes out in late June. The Monkees are bringing the summer.
The Monkees meets Fountains of Wayne meets XTC meets Mike Viola! It doesn't get better than that!
Here's my soundtrack for summer 2016. Thanks to The Monkees for bringing back melody!
I absolutely LOVE this song! ❤
Definitely a return to form.
If Meghan Trainer songs sound like the 60's--why can't this chart. The stuff you hear on the radio is such a variety and throwbacks--disco, 80's, 60's, 70's. Love the Monkees.
The magic that is the Monkees is Mickey Dolenz whose voice I love.
Sheesh! The sound of The Monkees collides with XTC! Good stuff!
That harmony at 0:50 is so Dukes of Stratosphear.
Andy P is a beast!
I'm on my second listen and I already love it.
it's wonderful to have good old school pop Music back in 2016 from the fabulous monkees. it would have been cool for them to do modern edm styled music too :-). the new CD debut on the billboard top 200 album chart @ #14! it's their highest charting release since 1968. pretty damn impressive!
Hats off to Andy Partridge for a pitch perfect period piece for the Monkees!
indeed!
Partridge, provides pitch perfect period piece. Figured I'd make your alliteration even more extreme. This sounds like a Dukes track that never made it into an official release.
Absolutely love this. This will be a regular stream to our smart tv on our two piss up nights of the week!
This is the greatest song! Micky's vocals are a perfect match for it. I listen to it every day!
Fantastic, fantastic. Love it.
This sounds like the Monkees at their 60's brilliant peak! Mickey still has voice!
Regreso a mis 14 años con ellos Me hacen feliz
Another great track! Shaping up to be a great album!
I had to listen to The Door Into Summer again after hearing this.
Definitely an instant classic!! I wanna hear more!!!
such a good tune. they sound great. I look forward to the disc!
Very likey!!!
yaassssss
Love it..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
great song micky dolenz still sounds great
Sounds great.. Almost has that That thing you do ..sound .. Love it..Best Yet ..
very Partridge :)
Great song. Yes, has a very ' 60s English pop sound to it. Just right for Mickey's voice which still sounds fantastic.
Awesome stuff!
This reminds me a lot of Dear Madam Barnum.......
I can't stop dancin'!! Lovin' this!!! :-)

THE MONKEES! 👏👏👏👏
Bom!
well, it's definitely a Partridge tune!
I love this song, i have a feeling im gonna love the new album even tough it isnt out yet :)
love this song, just pity im in Manchester UK so cant see any of the shows, but hoping the cd is available here
Wow wow great song, very XTC who in turn often sounded like the Monkees, its kinda gone full circle.
Much better than Pool It or Justus!
+SQDLVR pool it is baaaddd.... But Justus is a pretty awesome album
Has a Hollies/Rembrandts feel. I like this better than the Rivers Cuomo song.
I MIGHT BUY THIS CD?
excellent. Nesmith. Dolenz.Tork and Partridge. All those Duke's production tweaks...Can even make out Andy's backing vocals. Pity poor Davie's missing.
+mr noisy According to Mike Nesmith who posted the song credits, Andy Partridge does not sing or play on the song. Only Nez & Tork back up Micky.
+David Cooper In that case papa nez sounds almost partridge like. I just cant see andy not getting involved in some way during the recording. But I don't doubt what you say. I will wait for the album and check it out. Partridge is usually hands on in anything he is involved in, whether it is songwriting for others or production duties.
Here are the session credits posted by Nez:
Vocals: Micky Dolenz
Guitar, Vocals: Michael Nesmith
Organ, Vocals: Peter Tork
Guitar: Pete Min
Guitar: Jody Porter
Bass: Adam Schlesinger
Guitar: Mike Viola
Drums, Percussion: Brian Young
+mr noisy No matter what the credits say, it does sound like AP on backing vocals.
The lyrics please 🎤🎵🎼🎹
"You Bring The Summer"
I'll bring the chips
and the dips
and root beer
Even though dark purple
rain clouds are near
When you come around
you bring the Summer
I'll lay the basket and blanket out neat
Even though weathermen
say there'll be sleet
When you come around
you bring the Summer
Summer poorer sad old snowman
freezing in his room
Summer from your clear blue skies
will melt away the winters gloom
I'll bring the sun cream
and beach volleyball
Even though there is no sand here at all
When you come around
you bring the Summer
When you come around
you bring the summer
Summer poorer sad old Jack Frost
trying to warm his toes
Summer from your golden smile
will paint the snow drops pinky rose.
The birds and the bees will fly around me
even though we're deep in January
When you come around
you bring the Summer
I know with one bound
you bring the Summer
When you come around...
Summer baby
you bring the Summer
you bring the Summer around
Summer baby
you bring the Summer
you bring the Summer around
Summer baby
you bring the Summer
you bring the Summer around
(Baby!)
+32INCHSTRIPER Thank you!!! You make me smile!!
Wacala, te gustan los monkees?
The ORIGINAL tribute to The Monkees from XTC (Listen for the "Last Train To Clarksville" riff): ua-cam.com/video/HfWDNwdjm60/v-deo.html (released under The Dukes Of Stratosphear moniker)
That really sounds like an XTC song, wow. And I love how young the Monkees still sound, like a trip back in time. So awesome.
As a fan of The Monkees since 1986, I was floored by how well this album was ! Andy Partridge of XTC , Rivers Cuomo, , Paul Weller and Noel Gallagher and Death Cab For Cuties Ben Gibbard ( who wrote my favorite track " Me and Magdalena ") wrote excellent songs. It not only shows the vast amount of musicians that love The Monkees, but also the VOCALS are the standout which have always been The Monkees biggest trait. The Harmonies between Mike and Micky on "Me and Magdalena " are so well done ( as they always were ) it just blows my mind that Micky is the only one left.. they were and are still today a huge part of my life as a music lover. R.I.P Davy , Peter and Mike... I have this strange feeling that The Monkees will be inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame posthumously, which is a shame.
Micky Dolenz is a happy freak of nature. Who sounds like that at 71? I can't wait to hear the rest of the album.
Certainly sticks out that this is an ANDY PARTRIDGE song - even the vocals here sound as if it is Andy singing the song... Oh God I wish Andy and Colin Moulding would start communicating again and reform XTC.
Great song written by one of Britian's finest songwriters.........
Wow! Each song gets better and better. l'm so glad the remaining 3 members at least played on the CD. l'm proud to be a monkees fan
I am so glad that the monkees exist because if they didn't, I wouldn't have found true happiness. I know I wasn't around in that time but I wish I was. they are truly amazing and so many ppl say they are fake and stuff but remember! on their 3rd album they wrote all the songs. but I just love their TV show and they mean so much to me.
It was a fun time. Even my Mom liked tjeir music!!
The Monkees Headquarters, the 3rd album was not written entirely by the band, but it was the first album they played all the instruments themselves.
+leslie lees The monkees didn't play their instruments on the first two albums but when headquarters was made they did decide to play their instruments
Sounds like a Dukes of Stratosphear outtake. I like it.
+kurtispopp Yep! Andy Partridge wrote this groovy tune!
Great song from Andy Partridge - it would've made a fine XTC track (and I can easily "hear" Andy singing it himself). Does the song remind anyone else of "Dear Madam Barnum" from "Nonsuch"?
+Tim Walker Yes, I was just thinking that! It has the same bridge. Only not as good.
It really is very XTC, AP at his song writing best. A perfect synthesis of two of my favourite bands, in fact I shed a couple of tears when I heard it for the first time.
And as a bonus, psychedelic backward guitars near the end, another favourite musical thing of mine. Fantastic!
Yes; I just posted the same thing before reading your comment.
This Monkees tune is so very GROOVY!
I am totally diggin' it!
"Feel Good" music .....
+Geri Reischl Right on, Geri! Can't wait to see them live at the Count Basie in Red Bank, NJ! May 29th! ----Terry Malone Corino (and the kids!)
Unmistakably Partridge... all very Dukes of Stratosphear
I could tell from the very beginning this was the Andy Partridge tune. Good thing I love both the Monkees and XTC. :D
andy sure is a a good song writer
I like your profile picture :)
Ahem.... great songwriter, thank you ;)
He is indeed. This sounds like an XTC song.
Just realized who wrote the song. I was playing some old XTC earlier for my 20 yr old daughter and she said it reminded her of the Monkees. So there you go! 😂❤️
Perfect synthesis of The Monkees and XTC! Classic!
+Scott Mercer I'm not too up on NXS but the guy did a fantastic job. This album alone should show that , after 50 years of making music, these guys need to be in the R&R Hall of Fame!!!!
You're not too up on XTC either. LOL
Yup. It does indeed sound like an XTC song. Which is a good thing.
I am 22 yrs old. Growing up until i was 9 The Monkees were my absolute favorite band. Then when i turned 9 i found a band named Blink-182 and Blink-182 has been my absolute favorite band since. This song has made me get back into The Monkees and I'm really digging it.
Same exact thing for me!!
Great song, but sadly as close as we'll ever get to new XTC music.
I never look forward to any of these 'comeback' albums, but this stuff is really good.....
I know what you mean. I'm a Monkees fan, but the Justus album made me cringe. It sounded really cheezy and made them look like creepy old pops. But this new one was a genuine Monkees vibe with a modern twist. Very pleasant to listen to.
On this occasion they have come up with some great songs, what a great album. Now for the rock n roll Hall of Fame?
Justus suffered from it being the mid-90s, when everything sucked.
This Debuted Early because another posted an Unofficial Version here!
Treacly! in the best Andy Partridge tradition and sung by The Monkees!
Now for some reason I want to hear "Mayor of Simpleton"
Haha! I was just listening to that song with my kids!! 😊
+Randy Burbach Even though I knew it was written by Andy Partridge I was taken aback by just how much it sounds like XTC, might be why I like it so much
Agreed.
Andy P. is poss'y the best songwriter of all time.
omg!!!! another fantastic song!!!!!!
