Drogheda, Ireland (circa 1980)

- This is from a Cine Film I took during a trip to Drogheda in the early eighties. It's very grainy and the original film had badly deteriorated over time before it was digitized, I was also not the best cameraman. The end result is that the overall quality is poor, nevertheless it does capture some general scenes of the town from that time. I hope that some people find it worth watching.
Brings back great memories as this is how I remember Drogheda, thank you.
I always love to see a church and a tall steeple as I drive from town to town and from city to city it is a wonderful sight to see especially those old stone built churches and cathedrals.
I'm still living in Drogheda and it really hasn't changed much from this video. The harbour shot the boat you see is docked up this year's rotting away and the shot across the harbour there is now a big shopping centre there. Apart from this it's hardly changed lol
Before the plantation
Thanks for this.
Can confirm 1985. Back to the Future is in the cinema!
Further evidence to back this up - Penneys is where Woolworth was and the Drogheda Town Centre was opened around late 1985.
And that's where I first saw the Film
Was pausing it there Jedburgh nash
@@RedKnight-fn6jrWas thinking the exact same thing.
😂oh the memories 👌🏻😂🇮🇪
Great footage!!!
I worked in that vg shopping center
Drogheda a shadow of itself especially west st😢😢
This is pretty great footage, well done. Make sure to keep that Cine Film. The restoring technology today, that the average Joe can own, is getting there. There are ways you could take every frame of this and run it through Machine Learning AI tech that uses the AI to enhance the colour/contrast/lighting or upscale every single frame in the video to 1080p or 4K like resolution. The results can be astonishing on older videos.
Das a great video of Draw dat .
Very fond memories
Didn't realise Drogheda Town Centre was that old.
It's not.
@@bordercollie1140 How old, then?
@@flaggerify 1985
@@bordercollie1140I know that. It's mentioned in the other comments.
@@flaggerify Well why the fuck did you ask me then?
It's at least 1985 as that's when the Town Centre was opened
When the Drogheda Town Centre opened in 1985, did it have lifts going from the car park to the shopping centre, or were they only added in 2001 and there was escalators or something instead?
@@europa2000man I'm pretty sure the escalators were there from '85 that led down to a newsagents at the bottom and to the car park too.
@@GerryScullion Thanks for the info
