    That’s exactly the video i was looking for. I didn’t know the difference between the Torrentshell and the Granite crest, and wich one i should choose. Now i know the granite crest is the one for me :)

    I blind purchased the Triolet. I was very happy with how light and bombproof it felt. And yes the sizing was very appropriate for a mountain jacket. Great sleeve lengths will keep your protected when reaching. Good zippers, pit zips. Ample hood for helmet. Basically, exactly as you said!

      I got the Slate Sky, and love it. Looks great and doesn’t sound all plasticy and much lighter than my Rainshadow while also being 3-layer. I also love the Wavy Blue color.

    Great video Chris. I really like the fit of Patagonia shells, they allow for movement and layering. I find that Rab and some of the other brands seem to have a climbers alpine fit, they're too tight under the armpits when wearing layers.

    Where do you think the Patagonia Boulder Fork fits into this? And is it a newer jacket?

  • @Josepllop87
    @Josepllop87 Рік тому +2

    great review sir, I'm considering getting a Torrent shell or a Slate Sky to use as a shell. Between those to two which you would think be warmer and maybe more wind resistant ?

    • @Errcyco
      @Errcyco Рік тому +2

      Both are 3-layer and totally waterproof/windproof. The Torrentshell is thick and heavy and baggy for layers. It’s got all the features but again, function over form.
      The Slate Sky is more refined and a tapered slim fit. No pit zips or technical hood. I prefer it cause I’m not a mountaineer.. I just do basic hikes and camping. For that even the Slate Sky is overkill.
      The one thing to keep in mind too, the Torrentshell will be better for bigger people, the Slate Sky is trim fit for lanky people.
      Both are top notch rain gear and about the best on earth for sub-$200 for sure. Avoid gore tex at all costs, it never biodegrades. H2NO is just a standard, not a proprietary membrane like people think. So, each patagonia rain gear is made totally unwise and specific to a certain activity.
      If you need hardcore rain protection and a solid hard shell, opt for the Patagonia Storm10 over the Triolet to avoid gore tex.
      Hope that helps! I love Patagonia.

    • @meandmyjackets
      @meandmyjackets  Рік тому +1

      It should do just fine, it's pretty durable, and there its room if you would like to layer under it.

    Great video as always. If you could time stamp the videos, that will take it to another level. \
    Also, do you happen to have a video of how to dress for different temps from chill to super cold for different brands like Patagonia or Arcteryx. Or even a video for novices like myself on what we can buy with a small $1,000, medium $1,500 or larger $2,000+ budget to get one started for travelling, e.g. pants, mid layer and hard shell.
    All the best!

    • @meandmyjackets
      @meandmyjackets  Рік тому +1

      I don't have a video for different temps. It's hard to do that, as everybody is different as how they feel cold. What may be warm for some may not be for others. It also depends on what activities you're doing. But I do have a video on what to wear in a "Bomb Cyclone". That was a very cold storm. I also often give examples of the weather in which I wore a piece, and if I was warm or cold in that piece.

    I’m looking for a waterproof rain jacket that is the most breathable…hopefully without breaking the bank. I’m looking at the Patagonia TorrentShell and the Patagonia Granite Crest…I’d really appreciate your thoughts/suggestions/recommendations!

    • @meandmyjackets
      @meandmyjackets  Рік тому +3

      I would guess that the Granite Crest would be a bit more breathable than the Torrentshell, as it is a much lighter piece. (thinner fabrics) That is just my opinion, but it would make sense. I also really like the Rab Kinetic Alpine 2.0. I did a video on that a while back last spring, and I bought one for my daughter who wanted a rain jacket in Florida. It's not a bad price either.

    In my view, find the longest lasting DWR in rain gear, and start there and work backwards into ventilation features and MVTR of the garment itself, not just the membrane. I have some Torrey pants which were marketed using the membrane MVTR but it was much less after you added in the MVTR of the shell material as it was less than the membrane.

    I wouldn't say “cheap”, since that might imply a low quality. The Torrentshell has less glamous features, yet is very capable & versatile for the price.

    Wish you could get more of these jackets without the huge hoods meant for wearing a helmet underneath, like for people who work outside. I have one but the hood is so large I can’t see properly & you can’t adjust it enough.

  • @unclebob8419

    I have the granite crest. Water comes through the stitched seam holes at the end of the arms and around the base of the jacket. When I lift my arm up, I have water coming down to my elbow. This shouldn't be happening on such an expensive jacket, the seams should be taped on the inside, they are not.
    Overall, I would say that these Patagonia jackets are not serious outdoor jackets when you compare them to the competition. Even on their top jacket, the pockets are too low down, they get in the way of a harness or your rucksack strap.
    I bought a Rab latok mountain for my serious outdoor activities. The Patagonia is the one I use as a day to day jacket around the city and the park.

    You can’t have an “around town” and “in the mountains” jacket in one single product. You have to choose.

    • @meandmyjackets
      @meandmyjackets  10 місяців тому +13

      I own a ton of jacket's most are designed for mountain activities. I wear them all around town, everyday use. I figure that if they can keep a person warm, dry, and comfortable up in the mountains, they will be able to keep me comfortable when I go out to eat, or shopping. I love knowing that no matter what the weather is like, I'll be comfortable, dry and warm!
