Hey mate, I appreciate that you are pumping these videos out for us and they certainly help with purchase decisions. With that, please don't forget about the little details you used to include like; are the pockets lined (fleece or mesh to vent), draw cords on the hem, hood, loops to hang and dry the garment, how do the cuffs cinch or do they at all, the weight of the jacket,...Helping to explain the small stuff that people can not tell online is very helpful.
This technical Jacket it’s simply awesome! It work perfect against strong cold winds and even snow! I used it as hard shell and it performs like I no wearing and extra layer cause it is so light and strong at the same time. 10/10 Tested on Appalachian trails winter 2024-25
I mostly use my rainjacket with a backpack (either hiking or skiing), so the durability of the material is important to me. Would the Torrentshell be more durable, given that it's outer layer is made of 50D material instead of 30D for the Granitecrest?
I found your size recommondation in the comments, but please mention it in the video, most people watching these videos want to know which size they need, so please say your height, normal size, and which size are the jackets you have on. besides that, great video. i might geht the patagonia granite crest jacket and pants
Sorry if I forgot to mention the size in this video. I usually do say my size and weight and the size of the jacket. Which is an XL. And I'm 6'2" and 215lbs.
Hey maybe you can help me but what’s the big difference between the Granite Ctest and the Rainshadow? I want to upgrade my Rainshadow but as far as I can tell it’s the same jacket just more expensive.
Honestly, I'm not familiar with the rainshadow. Maybe the Granite Crest is a newer version. I do like the Granite Crest, as it is light weight and has some nice features.
@@meandmyjackets So I ended up buying the Slate Sky in the Wavy Blue color. Since you said you weren't familiar with the rain shadow.. The slate sky feels like a fleece compared to it.. much softer and less plastic feeling. The H2NO in the rain shadow wears like gore tex which I didn't like.. sound like a trash bag and with transparency mode on AirPods Pro that's like scraping a chalkboard. The Slate Sky is pretty amazing, I don't like the lack of a visor though. No pit zips is preferable as Ive never used them even hiking the AT. Higher up pockets to accommodate pack straps were a nice touch also. Great reviews my guy!
I would like to, but I would need a model. 🙂 my wife refuses to do it, and my daughter would be perfect, but she now lives in Florida. We'll see what happens in the future.
Hey there, thanks for the great reviews, covers all angles! For my reference, did you size up on your Granite Crest Jacket? I'm a normal size S in Patagonia fleece jacket, think I should get an M for layering?
I did not size up. I normally wear a size XL, and that is what all of these jackets are. I would stay true to your size S. Keep in mind that these shell jackets are normally sized a bit larger anyway, as they are designed to be worn over layers. So A size S Granite Crest will have no problem fitting over a size S fleece or even an insulated layer that is size S.
Hi there, thanks for the video! Deciding between the Torrentshell versus the Granite Crest - should I be concerned with the durability of the Granite Crest at all, since it's made of 30D denier versus the Torrentshell's 50D Denier material? I hope it'll last just as long
I've had my Granite Crest for nearly a year. It has been with me to London England, Italy and back home in Toronto Canada. So far, the jacket is really good, holding up well. It is a regular fit, so it is really good for layering underneath and the jacket is very packable. I never had the Torrentshell, but I choose the Granite Crest because it seemed to the most breathable for the most waterproofing. Hope this helps :)
I would say that this is most similar to the Arc'teryx Beta LT. Both Are nice. I do own the Beta LT and I really like it. This Granite Crest was my favorite of the Patagonia rain jackets that I tested. If you want GoreTex, then the Beta. The Beta may be a bit heavier. Both are very capable. It's just my opinion.... I do like Arc'teryx. I don't think that you would be disappointed with either one.
I would say that the biggest advantage to the Granite Crest is the weight and packability. The torrentshell is good, but the fabric is much thicker, stiffer, and heavier than the GC.
@@marcdellorusso180 It's basically based on what you want, It's much lighter, and therefore more packable. So, I would say that's what your paying extra for. I guess that it's worth it if that's what you want or need. Personally, I like the granite crest the best of all five Patagonia shells that I reviewed.

my XS Granite shell fits over S R1 air zip hoody. So yes it is cut generously.

Hey is this jacket able to pack inside the chest pocket?
Do you recommend this over Arc‘teryx?

How is this jacket superior to the Torrentshell 3L considering the significantly higher price? I see it has better designed pockets. Anything else?
I would say that the biggest advantage to the Granite Crest is the weight and packability. The torrentshell is good, but the fabric is much thicker, stiffer, and heavier than the GC.
Is it worth paying the extra cash for the granite crest though? I would be using as an everyday type of jacket.
