I like it a lot
How well does this breathe? I have a Kadin and I’m wondering if this would be better for backpacking. Love your videos, very informative and helpful!
The worst jacket I have ever owned. Wetted out in a shower, seams leaked and the stormflap and drawcord gullies filled with water. You could feel the water sloshing about in them. For a jacket called the "Downpour"...its far from waterproof. It's HH of 20'000 should mean it withstands a good battering, but its not the case. Both my wife and I returned ours after two weeks. I now have the ME Gharwal and my wife has a Montane.... both have been totally reliable. Won't buy Rab shells or Pertex again.
I’m 191cm, about 91kg, what size do you recomend ?
The slimmer cut on these is very flattering to you, awesome colour too. I’ll be checking these out for next spring definitely. Cheers matey! 👍🏻
Great review. Thanks for the info!
Hi, which is that size that you are wearing? Thanks :)
I'm 6'2" 215Lbs. Size XL
Que talla es la chaqueta y cuanto mide usted? Deseo comprar una hh
Is white colour too white for this jacket?
It's a personal choice. This one is the light grey. I liked this color, but it along with the white can get dirty easily. Depends on your use too.
Just found your channel. Great practical reviews. Just bought this Rab jacket. Was on sale for 30% off. Now looking for a rain shell to fit over top for a trip to Iceland. Who knew shopping for jackets could be so confusing
Thank you for watching the videos. Hopefully my videos can help you find a shell too! 🙂
Nice for smart casual
A nice heavy fleece, but I really do like the Arc'teryx Covert better. For me, the covert fits a bit trimmer.
How did you get this Chris? Rare item!
I bought this a little over a year ago when it was first offered.
That was an impressive review. Thank you
Thank you for watching!
I bought the Helly Hansen Crew Hooded Jacket 2.0 and wore it yesterday and was bloody cold, despite wearing a waffle long-sleeved t-shirt and a light Merino rollneck - I was quite surprised. Now tempted by this version with the added fleece mid layer. Any thoughts of your own on this? Thanks
@@naturalbornphotog the non insulated version is nice, but it's more of just a shell. Without any insulation, it won't give you warmth. The mid layer insulated version is a much more substantial jacket. They fleece lining adds warmth and comfort, but it also has synthetic insulation throughout. It's a really nice jacket.
@@meandmyjackets thank you, I've now ordered the mid layer and will compare with the one I have
@@meandmyjackets Thanks for your advice - I've gone with the mid layer version and returned the shell version. Cheers!
You’re amazing ❤
I know!!!🙂
Brutally Uncomfortable. I love it.
Is Arcteryx Beta LT worth the price increase over this one?
They are a bit different. The Torrentshell feels heavier, stiffer, a bit bulkier. They also have different membranes, The Arc'teryx is GoreTex, the Patagonia uses their own H2NO. I look at the Beta as "more technical", and the Patagonia as more of a durable all round jacket for everyday or mountain use. That's just my opinion. They both are good jackets.
Nice
Thanks Chris, very informative! 👍🏻
I hope that it helped you
good job, chris.
🙂
I am new to practical pants... Would I be foolish to apply wax to waterproof these pants? I have been left in dark, cold and scary world after I sported them in heavy rain. Please get back to me 🙏🏼
I have never applied a wax to my pants, so I can't answer that. That may be a question to ask Arc'teryx. Otherwise, you may want to look into a pair of GoreTex pants such as the Beta pants.
Another nice review~!
Thank You!
Anyway you can do a review of the beta down jacket?
I hope to do that at some point, It's just difficult, because it's very expensive.
Good job 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
I was just looking on Arc Regear site. They have them again as of Sept 25/24. I wonder if they were stashed in a warehouse since listed as ‘like new’. Most of their older stuff is less fashionable/more outdoorsy. Tx, i’ve never heard of them
Cool, it is still a nice fleece, I like the gater as well.
Hey! Thanks for the amazing information on sizes. I started to look into buying the Beta AR and can’t decided between L and XL. I’m 6’ 214 lbs and plan to wear Atom LT layer underneath for mostly hiking. Some people say L some say XL, what do you think based on your experience? Also, should the atom mid layer be the same size I choose for the shell?
I would suggest getting both pieces in the normal size that you always wear. The shell is made to fit over another jacket of the same size.
Looks good. Nice fit. Like an Atom ar
Yes, It is a nice jacket. Kind of a cross between the Atom LT and The Proton LT.
I’ve heard good things about Black Diamonds Dawn Patrol line. Especially the soft shell jacket. Do you think you could check them out?
I will take a look.
Awesome review. I'm planning to purchase this jacket but not sure if I should size up if I plan to wear a sweater underneath. What would you recommend?
I would order your normal size. You should have room under it.
@@meandmyjackets sounds good. Thank you!
Best of the best
Agreed! Top of the line.
their fall 2024 has a Beta SL now. wondering where that is position?
It's the same Beta Lightweight, just renamed SL. Arc'teryx is crazy with their names lately.
The SL is 55 grams lighter than the LT, and uses ePE Goretex.
@@Ice-Fall Arc'teryx keeps changing names. It gets a bit confusing after a while. The LT used to mean "lightweight", now the LT is the Beta Jacket. The SL was called the "lightweight" until recently. The Beta AR has remained the same, ... so far!🙂
Very usefull video! Keep it up!
Thank you, They do make nice pieces.
Better than Arc’Teryx?! 😮😮😮
Arc'teryx does make great stuff, but that's not to say that everything else is garbage compared to them. All of the companies that I do videos on, make great pieces, with some in my opinion better than others. This Rab Mythic G is simply a great jacket. I do like it better than my Arc'teryx Cerium, and I am guessing that it may be just as warm as my Arc'teryx Thorium. It has a great fit, (not as trim fitting on me as the Cerium), it is super light, and the hood fits perfectly. Rab hit a home run with this jacket!
Considering there’s only 50 dollar difference in my local shop between this and the triolet. Which one would be better?
Both are great jackets, and are very similar. Honestly, I'd go with whatever color you like best between the two. 🙂
If you're going to do a review at least know what the fuck you're talking about
Love your videos, very informative! What colour is that one?
This is several years old, but I believe that the color was called "Timber".
How is the "patina" after some use and washing? Cause when I tried the retro, it felt like a carpet.
I had the same initial feeling about the Retro, it's like a shag carpet. But it's different. Unfortunately I did not have it for long, as I sent it back after doing the video. So I can't say how it holds up to washing. Sorry.
Casually, today I received my Rab Mythic G. I was keeping an eye on your channel because you mentioned you would soon be doing a review of that jacket. I agree with everything you said in the video about the jacket. Here in Spain, it's still too early to try the jacket outdoors (the weather is still warm), but I've tried it on at home, between my Arc'teryx Kyanite Lightweight and my Rab Kinetic Alpine 2.0. Together, they form a winning combination in my opinion. A lot of comfort and mobility. I'm looking forward to the cold returning to my country so I can wear it. Thank you for all the reviews you do on your channel.
Thank you, Sorry it took a while for me to do this video. It is an expensive piece, and I can't afford to order everything at once. I too am waiting for cold weather to see just how warm this jacket is. Your combinations sound awesome. I'm sure that you'll be happy with everything. Thanks for your support!🙂
Keep it up
Thank you. Adding a bunch of Shorts to my channel. We'll see how it goes.🙂
I ordered this jacket in a Size L, and while I was very impressed with the Materials, Warmth, Quality and Overall value of the jacket, it was simply just an inch or two Short for me as a 6 foot 5 guy. Other than that. If youre average height to maybe 6 foot 3 get this jacket! Highly reccommended. Super light. Like its barely there. Yet very warm. Super high end stuff
@@florian7460 I'm 6'2", it was perfect for me. I really like this one. Extremely light weight.
Awesome video! I love this presentation style, so much useful information without any of the marketing fluff.
I'm just being me, hoping to help you all understand what these pieces are all about!
Great review, Chris. I'll give Scarpa another look.
Great stuff!
Love your videos. How do you afford to buy all your jackets and gear? This stuff isn’t cheap
I do not own everything that I review, That would be cause for divorce! 🙂 I could not afford to buy all of this stuff, nor would I ever need or wear all of it. I do return most of it, but I do have a "nice" collection.🙂🙂
This is one of your best reviews, Chris. Good Job. I would be interested in more reviews of the mountaineering/alpine boots, so I appreciate you doing these reviews.
Thank you, I hope to do more Scarpa reviews.
Good job, Chris. o/
Thanks!🙂
GOOD REVIEW 👍🏻 😊
Thank you.
Great handy packable lightweight and layerable jacket.... yes its not 100% waterproof of course it's not a gortex...but for the price it kept me dry in a 2hr heavy shower when caught away from home with my wee dog... very happy with mine great price from go outdoors 👍🏻
Exactly right, a very good general purpose rain shell.
Thought these are titanium?
They have a stainless steel frame, but mine is black. They are very light weight!!
Love my Nuclei - bought because of your enthusiasm for it! 👍
Awesome, See, I wasn't lying!🙂
