    It's ok to wack the rotor surfaces, especially from the back side. Not sure why none wants to hit them

      Yes, your right. Sometimes It doesn't work well so I hit more in the center to help break up the rust. But your 100% if your not reusing the rotor you can hit the back side or out edge.
