Jim the car guy really rocks. I was trained as a mechanic 55 years ago in RI by my dad, but had a career as an engineer. Getting a refresher from Jim was like being with my dad again. Jim tells you what you need to know and how to do it right. 5 stars to you Jim and thanks. PS don't forget to buy your parts through his store front, the same price as the discount auto parts stores.
Had to replace the rotors and pads on my daughter's Hyundai. This step by step tutorial was just what I needed to be able to do the job correctly. Took me a little longer to do the job since I had to do it in my driveway and not on a lift. That being said, the brakes were repaired correctly and they operate flawlessly. Great video!
Thank you soo much for your Help. We just changed our 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Both rear Rotors and Brakes successfully. You are one of the Mechanic whose not worried about job security & wants to share Knowledge, not hide to rip off people. Thanks and God Bless you.
I like the way you lay out the tools that are needed for the job. It sure makes it easy to be ready or to buy the tools before you start the job.
I try to save a step if I can.
Thanks very much for posting this. I saved my family a couple hundred bucks by replacing our Santa Fe's brakes myself.
Another job well done, Jim. Can't thank you enough for the pry bar tip at the beginning of the job to recess the piston. Amazing how much time that saves putting it back together since I've started doing that.
Great tutorial, watching this video makes me so happy I live in the Deep South,no rust issues like this
One of the only brake jobs I have seen on UA-cam that was actually done right
Thank you and Thanks for watching.
You explained i step by step, Great video, very professional. Thank you.
Jim, I want to thank you for your video and expertise. Following you video and some words with one rusted rotor, I did it. Happy Holidays
Followed Jimmy's directions on a 2014 Santa Fe, it worked out great.
I'm happy to help. Thanks for watching.
Very clear, thorough an helpfull explanations. Thank you very much.
Thanks for the video, buddy! Gotta do this job to my son's sante fe in the morning.

Jim I know I already replied to say what a great video as it helped me replace tge rotors an rear brake pads on my 2017 Hyundai Sante la Fe XL Ultimate
However I followed the same exact process on my 20 yr old daughter's 2005 Chev Optimate rear rotors and brake pads and the job turned out exactly with the same fabulous results
Kudos to you
Hi Doug,
Great I'm happy to help and I'm sure your daughter is very happy. If you need and advice just ask.Thank Jim
BTW my daughter borrowed our 2012 Elantra when I was replacing the rear brakes on her 2005 Chevy Optra and she came back with a passenger side rear tire with less than 10 lb pressure in tge tire
So I pulled out my battery operated air pump to inflate the tire and what did I see a rear brake job needed to be done on the 2012 Elantra si next week I am doing it all over again
Now I have confidence to tackle these jobs
Thanks to you video
I want to change the ball joints on the 2005 Chevy Optra well si I need a video on that process as well
I love your videos. Thank you!
That was an excellent video. My dealer was charging me $299. for the fron and $255. for the rear. I did it myself.
Alex Propman great job I'm happy to help thanks for watching
Awesome teaching. It's very good work
Thanks for sharing your expertise.
The small screws that hold the disc don’t have to be tightened like that, they hold the disc just before the wheel is tightened on it.
Thanks Jimmy, great video 👍
Thank you sir for the valuable information it was great ..you made so easy ..cheers mate
I wish u would show changing the e brake cables great quality video
Thanks so much, awesome to see wick'd experienced hands and tricks oF the trade. Much appreciated Sir. Saved me couple hundred $ & half day labor Jim. The best clearest instructions I Eva received. Thankful for your time ,tips and expertise...
Very helpful video ! Thankyou
Thank you so very much, your video is so helpful and so easy to understand, again thank you for great video that easy to understand.
Thank you for watching. Watch for the next free tool giveaway coming soon.
Great video. The rotors come off a lot easier if you pull the rubber bung and back off the handbrake adjuster to pull the brake shoes in a bit.. then you can readjust when the new ones are on - trust me, much easier, and I found that it's quicker 👍
My dad told me that before i did mine last time and man was it a life saver. 5 good taps with a 3 lb maul and the whole thing popped right off
Thanks for the great video
I have a '12 Sante Fe. My problem was the rust ring inside the drum was so bad I couldn't get the drum/rotor off and there's no jacking bolt holes. Copious banging and prying got me out about a cm, along with pretty much destroying my dust cover, although it was almost at the point of disintegrating anyways. No amount of pulling and turning or banging got me any farther. At that point I got in behind and picked away at the rust with a small screwdriver, enough to get it off. I got it all back together so it's serviceable but now I have to get a new dust cover.
Thanks so much for the great video.
excellent stuff
Thank you very much! Very useful !!!
Great instructional video and Thank you. My question is. Is there a torque value that should be applied or just give them bolts a good reef? Thanks.
Very informative and broken down. Thanks

Great video! I was a bit worried but you made it seem so easy. Just one question, will these steps work on a 2013 Hyunda Santa Fe Limited as well? Also, what are the torque specs? Thank you in advance!
Hello, thanks for detailed instructions. What are the torque specs for the bolts?
Great explanation. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Could you please tell me the torque specs for the 14mm rotor and caliper bolts for a 2010 Santa Fe. Thanks in advance and thank you for a well put together video as well. It's very much appreciated. Cheers!

Do you have a video on park brake adjustment through rotor access hole that shows direction to turn to increase & decrease park brake lining clearance on the 2008 santa fe?
What size thread is the screw for the rotor? What if its stripped out? Can a replacement on be bought?
Well done. Thank you.
I'm happy to help .Thanks for watching.
Hi, Great Video Btw , I have a 2007 Hyundai Veracruz and I have to replace the front brake pads and the rear rotors and pads , could you please tell me the torque specs? Also what is better for this car do you know? Semi or Ceramic pads Thanks
Thanks Jim .
Thanks for watching.
Hi Jim Thanks for the video man... it really waz helpful. Can you give me the torque sepc for 2016 Hyundai Tucson.
Thanks in advance
Hey Jim,
Thanks for the great video.
Can you please give me the Torque Specs for the 14mm bolts (minute 17:07).
Thank you
I just want to thank you for this video - much appreciated - I had the opportunity to replace the right (passenger) rear passenger rotor and the brake pads with particular attention to your suggestion to the removal of the rotor as it was seized on good and it took a small sledge hammer to get it off as the rubber mallet was not good enough - but thanks to your video this was all i needed to ensure the job was done efficiently and effectively. I concur with everything you stating in the video - well done ... its just the unwashed like me that does not have the hoist to work off of that would have the job so much easier to complete.
The a few things I suggest people DO pay attention to is as follows:
1) use gloves like as shown here - it is is a messy or dirty job
2) try to make sure you get the right parts up front if plausible I was changing out the rear pads and rotor on a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe XL Ultimate and despite using Amazon wherein the parts are supposed to be accurate using their systemology it was not and had to get new pads from the direct seller using Amazon as their platform
3) I switched out the winter tires all round at the same time so you will also need white grease for putting the lug nuts back on the SUV
4) my costs were only $ 36 for the ceramic pads & $46.42 taxes all in for the rotor.& $ 9.78 taxes in for the brake grease
5) cost for using a Costco rage $ 2 sundry
6) cost for hand cleaner $ 2
7) broke my C-Clamp I bought through Amazon - 2 brake jobs ago $ 10
8) cost of White lithium grease $ 5 of a $ 10 spray can bought 1 year ag0
9) cost of WD 40 $ 5 of $10 spray can bought 1 year ago - mechanical repair shops call
By far the cheaper break job completed ever and argubaly toughest due to rust
Thank you for your input and for watching. I'm happy to help. Don't forget to hit the bell for notifications when a new video is posted.
Perfect video
Thank you for watching. I'm happy to help
hey thanks, great! detail...i have this model getting some squeaky sounds is that a sign my brakes need looking at? Also can you do a video about Camber caster, and toe and what and how things should be aligned in this model, also if you could provide any specs from the four-wheel aligner that would be great!...i have the dealer telling me i need a camber kit on one side of the front and it never needed it before...and the vehicle feels like it has a lean on the drivers side and handle differently if you could shed some light on what might be this would provide some light in the tunnel for me please and thanks...
thanks for video
Thank you for watching. Don't forget to watch Sunday Night at 7:00 PM Live stream.
Thanks, subbed.
Thanks for the sub!
Is there a star wheel to turn to retract the parking brake pads from the rotor?
Great video!!
Thank you for watching. I'm happy to help
Car is silent now, brakes are mint
Hi what if damage was done to the shoe assembly? One side with the shoe attached the arrowhead nail and clip came off and i had to put it back in, but should i get a whole new shoe assembly?
Any idea what a good brand of rotor is. The prices are all over the place I don't want to underpay and get a brand that is no good
Awesome video on brake replacement!!!
Did you use standard bearing grease on the pins and etc?
Thanks
Good question. No we use a synthetic brake lube. Thanks for watching.
Excellent Video Jim! Is it the same method for a 2013 Hyundai Tucson? I need to replace my pads & rotors all around plus I also need to replace my front drivers side caliper that seized. Do you have any videos on that? Once again, one of the best videos I've seen to tackle the job myself. Thanx in advance for your response.
Yes it should be almost the exact same procedure. Thanks for watching.
I need to do the hold down springs and other parts on mine. Does anyone know if the wheel bearing and hub need to be removed to access or can i be done without.
no anti-sieze on the phillips head screws ? you didnt check the parking brake adjuster to make sure it wasnt siezed up ? nice shade-tree corner cutting...
How to fix my rear defroster please? The button's light isn't on either. 2007 Hyundai Santa fe
Hi Jim, an excellent video, I am in the UK, I have a Hyundia Tuscon 2006, there is no service manual for it, would everything you've done on the Santa Fe be the same for a Tuscon
Colin Churcher pretty much they're the same car just the Santa Fe is bigger and heavier
Is there a trick to getting the brackets to sit tight and getting the pads to slide into the brackets? I got as far as putting the pads on and I can’t get them both seated in the brackets.
Very Well done video, made the job easy. I don't know if I missed something. But after all installed and back together, quite a scraping sound coming from one of the brakes. I checked and didn't install the pads on backwards, but scraping sound at low speeds. Brakes work good. Checked the rotors to touch. Both of course were warm, but one is super hot, much hotter than the other rotor. Do you think my caliper isn't moving? Andy
Did you replace the brake hardware? When you install the new pads do they slide very easy?
I'm having the same problem. About to go back to it and see if the caliper is too rusted or not moving properly it's causing a ring on my new rotor
what are the torgue specs for the braket
I did all of this step for step, but now I have loud vibration/wobble…. Any ideas?
Hi Jim, great videos. Question. How do you know you need to replace rotors if they are all smooth and not wobbling when braking? Should they always be replaced like the dealer will tell you?
I need to replace mine because instead of being smooth they are all jagged, it’s possible they were loose or warped before and now they’re completely unusable.
It’s also possible a rock got caught in there and made it uneven?
Hello,
I have a Santa fe 2015, i have problem of brake system when i push the button it turn on but it doesn't release the brake when i push it again, can you send me the schema of braking system and tell me what do you think about this problem?
Cordially
When you purchase new pads make sure you also get the hardware. Sometimes you must buy them desperately. Sometimes the hardware is removed from the box so make sure you check. sometimes you can reuse them but not a good idea.
You could show how to reglete the and brake!
Jim could you send me torque specs for Santa Fe 2003 caliper brackets
My only complaint is most people do videos when all works well. When you removed the rotor, you mention you have a tool to remove the rotor, but would try to just use a hammer first. While I believe that is what half the people want to see, but the other half already know that are are looking for ways when the hammer tap it off fails to work. Videos where problems are shown are very useful and is why I watch videos like this on doing simple jobs. Seeing what others do when they encounter problems is good learning.

@@brian_youtube You will like the way i get off rusted rotors using just some nuts, bolts and washers,
Hey great video do u also think if it's a 2017 santa fe the step would be the same because the year difference?
Yes it will be the same. Thanks for watching.
great video... do you need to bleed the brake when resetting the piston?
No need to as long as you don't open the bleeder or the lines.
Excellent video. Thank you for your time.
Glad it was helpful!
How to replace the rear wheel bearing on a 2008 hyundai santa fe 2.7L gls

Would this process be the same for a 2012 model Santa Fe? Good video!!
Yes it is the same Thanks for watching.

Hi Jim, another great video. Is the impact driver you used in this video on your Amazon tool page? Thanks in advance.
Yes, it is. Thanks for watching
@@jimthecarguy Thank you!
Great video. I am going to try this myself. I am confused at 15:25 regarding the battery pack. What is that for and what size is the battery? Thanks again.
Actually it was the battery on my camera that was going dead and had to be recharged. Thanks for stopping by.
@@jimthecarguy I feel like an idiot. Sorry. Lol
