Jim the car guy really rocks. I was trained as a mechanic 55 years ago in RI by my dad, but had a career as an engineer. Getting a refresher from Jim was like being with my dad again. Jim tells you what you need to know and how to do it right. 5 stars to you Jim and thanks. PS don't forget to buy your parts through his store front, the same price as the discount auto parts stores.

Had to replace the rotors and pads on my daughter's Hyundai. This step by step tutorial was just what I needed to be able to do the job correctly. Took me a little longer to do the job since I had to do it in my driveway and not on a lift. That being said, the brakes were repaired correctly and they operate flawlessly. Great video!

BTW my daughter borrowed our 2012 Elantra when I was replacing the rear brakes on her 2005 Chevy Optra and she came back with a passenger side rear tire with less than 10 lb pressure in tge tire
So I pulled out my battery operated air pump to inflate the tire and what did I see a rear brake job needed to be done on the 2012 Elantra si next week I am doing it all over again
Now I have confidence to tackle these jobs
      Thanks to you video
I want to change the ball joints on the 2005 Chevy Optra well si I need a video on that process as well

Great video. The rotors come off a lot easier if you pull the rubber bung and back off the handbrake adjuster to pull the brake shoes in a bit.. then you can readjust when the new ones are on - trust me, much easier, and I found that it's quicker 👍

I have a '12 Sante Fe. My problem was the rust ring inside the drum was so bad I couldn't get the drum/rotor off and there's no jacking bolt holes. Copious banging and prying got me out about a cm, along with pretty much destroying my dust cover, although it was almost at the point of disintegrating anyways. No amount of pulling and turning or banging got me any farther. At that point I got in behind and picked away at the rust with a small screwdriver, enough to get it off. I got it all back together so it's serviceable but now I have to get a new dust cover.

I just want to thank you for this video - much appreciated - I had the opportunity to replace the right (passenger) rear passenger rotor and the brake pads with particular attention to your suggestion to the removal of the rotor as it was seized on good and it took a small sledge hammer to get it off as the rubber mallet was not good enough - but thanks to your video this was all i needed to ensure the job was done efficiently and effectively. I concur with everything you stating in the video - well done ... its just the unwashed like me that does not have the hoist to work off of that would have the job so much easier to complete.
The a few things I suggest people DO pay attention to is as follows:
    1) use gloves like as shown here - it is is a messy or dirty job
    2) try to make sure you get the right parts up front if plausible I was changing out the rear pads and rotor on a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe XL Ultimate and despite using Amazon wherein the parts are supposed to be accurate using their systemology it was not and had to get new pads from the direct seller using Amazon as their platform
    3) I switched out the winter tires all round at the same time so you will also need white grease for putting the lug nuts back on the SUV
    4) my costs were only $ 36 for the ceramic pads & $46.42 taxes all in for the rotor.& $ 9.78 taxes in for the brake grease
    5) cost for using a Costco rage $ 2 sundry
    6) cost for hand cleaner $ 2
    7) broke my C-Clamp I bought through Amazon - 2 brake jobs ago $ 10
    8) cost of White lithium grease $ 5 of a $ 10 spray can bought 1 year ag0
    9) cost of WD 40 $ 5 of $10 spray can bought 1 year ago - mechanical repair shops call
By far the cheaper break job completed ever and argubaly toughest due to rust

Very Well done video, made the job easy. I don't know if I missed something. But after all installed and back together, quite a scraping sound coming from one of the brakes. I checked and didn't install the pads on backwards, but scraping sound at low speeds. Brakes work good. Checked the rotors to touch. Both of course were warm, but one is super hot, much hotter than the other rotor. Do you think my caliper isn't moving? Andy

I need to replace mine because instead of being smooth they are all jagged, it’s possible they were loose or warped before and now they’re completely unusable.
It’s also possible a rock got caught in there and made it uneven?

When you purchase new pads make sure you also get the hardware. Sometimes you must buy them desperately. Sometimes the hardware is removed from the box so make sure you check. sometimes you can reuse them but not a good idea.

My only complaint is most people do videos when all works well. When you removed the rotor, you mention you have a tool to remove the rotor, but would try to just use a hammer first. While I believe that is what half the people want to see, but the other half already know that are are looking for ways when the hammer tap it off fails to work. Videos where problems are shown are very useful and is why I watch videos like this on doing simple jobs. Seeing what others do when they encounter problems is good learning.

No need to as long as you don't open the bleeder or the lines.
