Yea I forgot to plug in the battery 😩
It does work though, trust me bro~
Nice,😉 that's why these hinges have always had faults for several reasons: 1. Dust and grains of sand that enter the hinge. 2. After a while, the nut tightens on the screw because of the reverse spring that is on the hinge. I repair axles and give the customer a one-year warranty on the axle. Cleans the axle + carburetor spray + W40 spray. Loosens the nut and glues the end with a quick glue that won't move again. Put grease on the shaft. And wrap part of the shaft with a shrink sleeve/thin tube. close the edges. Even if the customer places the computer in a sandbox, it will not enter the hinge
This is very well presented and produced. I really appreciate all the effort you put into this and the fact you're not too proud to edit out any missteps. They are good learning opportunities. Many of the comments are helpful too, particularly about the hinges. All around a very stellar job!
Fantastic tutorial I managed to fix my laptop better than any repair shop (and I reconnected the battery 😃)
Thanks Adam! This video helped me with replacing the hinges and top lid on my daughter's Dell Vostro 15.
Excellent presentation; clear and complete. Gerry
Same problem 😭 Service centre said it ll take 8-10 days to repair and 73.25 dollars
It seems they all happen on the left side of the screen and I think it is from the power cable getting under the hinge before they go to open it up
Great video! I just did the replacement on my Dell and the instructions were perfect. Thank you for showing your mistake....we all do it.
Amazing- this is exactly my issue and my laptop model and your video is so concise! Thank you so much.
Watching this video from my Dell Inspiron 15 3000 with a broken hinge that looks like what you have there :'D
We almost always replace the hinges themselves too, usually these get dirty and they get stiffer which will lead to the plastic being torn. If it has come in for a failed back cover usually it's better to just slap in new clean (original) hinges to delay it from happening again as much as possible.
Just a FYI, I use thread-lock (blue) on the hinge screws so they don't back out and cause premature failure of the repair. When the client picks up I tell them to open the laptop from the middle not the sides as well. Explaining to them the stress they put on the hinge by open it from the left or right side.
Would that hinder future repairs? If another component failed and you needed to remove
@@pekitivey no, it doesn't hinder the removal. If you have a look at a factory screw it also has the blue thread locker .
Helped a lot thanks!
Thanks so much!
I had hinges snap off just like this on a 6 week old inspiron - fixed one then the other failed a week or so later. Dell wouldn’t honour it under warranty. Our staff member who broke it managed to break the screen trying to wrench it open too.
Out came the jb weld epoxy and a new screen had to be fitted - those lugs won’t be ripping out again now that’s for sure
I am filing a case against Dell in consumer forum for manufacturing defect, they ask customer to pay for it.
I just added some big washers under the back plate/metal frame(not sure what it's called), can't spend a penny, father is gonna kill me. Works fine for now.
and thank you for that quick video
I use mirror hangers to reinforce the covers straight out of the box. The hanger and a little bit of duct tape and you're good to go. The "grunge" look!!
I know this is old, but if you get this notification could you explain how you do this? I'm about to be repairing my son's Dell and want to reinforce the hinges after I do so! Thank you so much!
@@nathaliechenault5805 I got the mirror hangers from the hardware store. If the laptop is thicker than a mirror then this technique won't work. What I did, was to slide the hanger horizontally onto the top display with the short "hook" part to the inside of the cover. When you look at the screen, you should see the metal of the hooks at the bottom left and bottom right of the screen. The longer side of the hook will be on the outside. Holding the hanger tight to the side of the screen, apply the duct on the long side, ie the back of the screen to hold the hangers in place. This will support both sides of the top case reinforcing it and helping the hinge. Hope this is clearer than mud.😀
Thank you sir
Thanks for your tutorial. First time i opened my laptop 😂
Nice one as always.
About the ending part, I always cringe when I see a tech reviewer open a lid from the side. You'd think they know about this stuff but apparently that's not the case
Dd you remember to reconnect the battery ?
i was also looking at the battery after he reconnects the display connector lol
A pleasure to see our favorite brand in your careful hands. Thanks for sharing. An affectionate greeting from Mexico.
PS: I even like to buy them with a broken screen because if I fix it I will most likely keep it (very cheap at US auctions but you have to go in person).
Widespread issue, even affects Dell's aluminum models where they made the ludicrous decision to still mould plastic inside the aluminium for the hinges to mount to...
What's your opinion about glueing the hinges back on the original (broken) back cover? (With a very strong glue obviously) .. Where i'm from, back covers aren't always available or take a long time to arrive from China.
Some customers prefer to exchange. there are the frugal ones") I use epoxy glue for radiators (pastelina) it stinks like crazy. But when it hardens it turns into stone
briliant vid !
very nearly did a Linus at the start of the video Graham LOL
Could you please showcase the procedure for the Dell Inspiron 15 5518 model?
Nice one thnks
I taped two USB hubs on a laptop's lid, so it is impossible to open fully, it is just ajar. Naturally a keyboard, mouse and display are needed. ;-)
Good to see you again Graham! it's been a bit. I've been waiting for you. lol!
nice Adam
Don't clean the LCD, the cleaning will reveal some marks that client does not konw that they are there! Marks from the keyboard, some scratch!!!
Belive me, been there, done that! First time when i cleaned the LCD, client said that his display had no marks (from the keys on keyboard) and had to replace the display with a brand new one....
i teared down an old laptop that the hinges where screwed into the lcd, like the metal ran up the sides of the lcd and screwed into it
Thanks for this. It happened to mine and only eight months old. Back to John Lewis as I have three year warranty.
I am going to launch a complaint against dell
It's a clear manufacturing fault, they are charging us
That "protective" film is put on by the ebay seller anyway
Any idea how to prevent this hinge problem before hand on a new laptop without opening
Like its brand new and i saw the hinge problems on the internet nowadays
As You say Graham .. Why OEM's use Plastic for the Hinge assembly is beyond Me tbh All the pressure on the Hinge is held on with a wing a prayer ( Rubbish design )
Is there any work of you doing a repair of 5 long 3 short, my HP omen won't turn on without battery, when I plug in battery it turns on but noo display
....and the battery ;)
brother how much you charged??
I didn't buy a replacement lid. The hingd broke the gold bits from the plastic. Can I just super glue the gold bits into position or is that a bad idea?
You can try, but in my experience, glue/epoxy just doesn't hold up. Had lots of people say they do it all the time, but every time I've tried, it's broken during testing.
Hello, Where Can I buy the cover?
This screen is 30 pin / 40 pin....?
He's not fixing a computer, he's peeling an onion with chopsticks. Good repair, dreadful design.
Did it still work?
It won't until he reconnects the battery!
No pal. He just replaced the panel and gave it back to the customer to use as a door stop
I’m seeing progressively newer and newer machines come in with hinge failure and quite frankly it’s sickening. It’s built in obsolescence and it seems the only company that doesn’t do this is apple. Until people start building things properly I’m going to continue using 8th gen elite books
It switch on would be nice...
Hello, I have one similar to this one (inspiron 15 7000 2 in one touch) that I cant confirm if the display or the flex is dead. It shows lines vertically and horizontally and I cant login in to windows blindly and the customer doenst remember the password. I have not tried disconnecting the lvds cable and pluggin an external monitor onto it, but with the lvds cable connected the hdmi show no output. Do you have any recommendations as to how diagnose what component is causing the failure?
Lines on the screen, most likely a bad panel. If you unplug the eDP (LVDS is old-school, modern is eDP) cable, it should default to HDMI. But yea, my money would be on Bad Panel. Sucks on a touch-screen though, that'll be expensive.
@@Adamant_ITunless it's a dell.Dell laptops really love to have the screen plugged in to turn on...There is way around on some models, but requires trial and error messing around with enable signals on the main board. And ofc schematic and boardview. Not recommended.
Needed to shout against the screen twice! 😆🤣
Still an entertaining video 👍👍
you wasn't actually screwing the hinges into plastic they were screwed into metal inserts
What were the metal inserts held in with? 1mm of plastic surround. It's like chaining your bike to a shrub, yea the chain is strong, but the shrub's going to break in half the moment the chain pulls on it.
Sir can you send that panel link sir
bateria trebuie deconectata cand deconectezi cablul de la displai, el e mereu sub tensiune de 19v
The battery was disconnected, he just rushed to put the back cover on for the video. I'm sure he reopened it and connected the battery
it can be fixed easily without replacing the back cover , I have done lots of these zero fail . just lose the nut a bit then hot glue the hinge back in place . better than factory
can you please post a video
First thing to do Graham, is always disconnect the battery 🤔
Battery plug wire...Oops
It is the bad design of using the lid to create a gap under the laptop. Avoid buying these types. Dell are infamous for it!
Folks, Do not splash the LCD cleaner onto LCD directly! 11:45
in this case its ok.. when its vertical it can drip to bottom circuit.. good point.
Been doing it for years. If you're getting running drips, you're using too much. Just a mist is all that's needed. However, yes you can spray the cloth if you want to be extra careful.
First
Nice
I just got this laptop for free from waste management the touch screen not the cheapest 130$ it was ran over by a fork lift . I took it home hook up just the bottom end to a TV screen it works fine say it a i7 16 g of ram and 500g not bad for free smells like trash my not be worth fixing the screen probably just use the TV and wire less mouse😉👍✌️🛠️🍻💻🖱️
