Here's how someone could make an effective Minecraft Horror Mod. First, make sure the monster isn't just a chaser that can be trapped in a boat (This just makes it a typical Minecraft mod). Make its design fit with Minecraft, but not entirely, so that there is something off. Also, it should not be shown in the first five minutes, have it hide out of sight and stalk the player always out of sight to build up the fear of the unknown. Have it mess with the player in minor ways (Like moving blocks, adding items in chests, etc....). Finally, I cannot stress this enough, when it attacks, don't give it an over-the-top jumpscare, or a jumpscare even, as it could ruin the mood set up.
I had an idea for a Minecraft mod where there are random structures like a cobble stone hut, a stair case leading to no where, the herobrine shrine, and stuff like that to add the idea that there are other people like the player in the world.
I feel like something people forget about older Minecraft horror is that Steve is the main character. That’s why the mimic and the anomaly use Steve as a base for most of their designs. Because like Herobrine, their essentially skin walkers. It’s like if your reflection starts staring at you. Even the old Steve mob had that same affect where it looked just like Steve but it’s slightly taller. Very unnerving. I think knocker would be more effective if it was just Steve, Alex or maybe even it could cycle around the console edition skins. Like just imagine the knocker trying to lure Steve out by using one of his console edition variants. And since it comes back different it shows Steve the knocker is trying to aggressively deceive him. That’s when the knock just opens the door and attacks Steve. Like a couple of the bad horror mods could work. Like, have siren head’s model be made to look like Minecraft trees and only have him spawn in jungles, dark oak or pale gardens. Biomes where the trees obscure the player’s over head vision so it can better blend in. It could also just be an extension of the creaking like the Root of Fear. Then when the player passes it by, it’s stops being dormant and gets ready to chase the player. Giving the player a fair shake while also scaring him. I think another way to effectively scare a player is having pillagers or evokers masquerade as wandering traders. The only thing that would trigger the attack would be if the player successfully trades with the wandering trader, then after a few seconds they’d get chased In your world imo does a great job scaring but I think it would be more effective if it just used Herobrine as the model and took out that other weird model that just doesn’t really fit Minecraft
Honestly, I feel as if Minecraft horror mods need some sort of new thing that shows them "oh yeah, THIS is how you do horror". While I'm no genius at modding (in fact, I don't even know what resources to use for modding custom enemies into Minecraft), there's been one mod that's been heavily on my mind for about a couple months that's inspired by one of my favorite horror monsters ever. And if I had the capacity to do it (or find someone who knows how to), I would do it in a heartbeat.
Honestly I would love to see a horror mod that slowly changes the game to its beta like yhe first 5 nights you sleep the first thing that changes is you can't see in the dark without a torch then after that passive mobs disappear then yhe rest of the mobs disappear and finally the texture pack changes to look like the beta. The most important detail is that there wouldn't be a monster, just the game slowly reverts back to its beta form
Alfred Hitchcock explained how to do all of this with his bomb under the table theory in 1970. I thought the theory was just common sense but Minecraft horror mods make me think otherwise. 55 years later and the best we can do when modifying a sandbox game with already infinite possibilities is this?
Make siren head a mob that can hide in certain biomes and make it contort its body into a tree shape and it if you get close it turns into its normal form and chases you
99% are terrible. The only good ones are the few that try to be interesting with the AI like the original cave dweller and one of the revamped ones (not the ones that use that goofy toothy model, but rather the original model, yes its not creepy, but it matches the world a little better).
id wish to have a horror mod wehre you could go insane but ill probbaly quit if i die and loose my stuff i just like a good scary the monster not coming out often would like more randomly like 10-40 minutes and i dondt need to look or watch out tath my stuff would be gone after a split second bc a the monster two shot me or even could do damage scary, making me insane, not coming often and just dondt need to worry of my stuff when night comes
I think some people actually think the mods are scary Also just install a texture pack that makes current minecraft look like older minecraft to make horror mods actually scary

I think The Broken Script is p good at this!

Everything in this video sums up my own thoughts on the horror mods of minecraft to a tee, thank you for that

MINECRAFT?? CHRISTMAS CAME EARLY
Make siren head a mob that can hide in certain biomes and make it contort its body into a tree shape and it if you get close it turns into its normal form and chases you
Yeah I think there should be a mod that adds a biome that siren head blends in with

Here are some mods that are actually frightening. In your world, 000.jar, broken skript, and the scariest of all, ps1 edition.
