How to Grow Your Hair Out | Men's Long Hair Q&A

  • Last year, I grew my hair out longer than it's ever been. It was a fun and rewarding experience, but it was also very frustrating. Ultimately, I ended up going back to a shorter hairstyle, just because I prefer the look.
But while I had longer hair, I got a TON of questions about growing your hair out as a guy. Frankly, I'm not the most qualified person to answer these questions. But, luckily, my good friend @TravWhiteStyle is a certified long hair expert. I collected your most burning long hair questions on Instagram, and I asked Trav to answer them for us in this video.
Big thank you to Trav for helping me out with this video. Definitely check out his channel @TravWhiteStyle if you want to learn about men's grooming, style and confidence, and of course, growing your hair out.
And, if you've been thinking about growing out your hair, I think you should try it at least once in your life. My hair never got as long as Trav's, but I'm still glad I tried a longer style.

I've worn my hair down to my waist some times, and I just love when I'm at work with slightly longer hair and a customer goes "hey miss", I turn around and throw my deepest "hi how can I help you?" at them.
Watching their faces turn bright red and start mumbling "omg so sorry didn't know" as if them saying "miss" somehow should've offended me is just hilarious.

It’s so cool that you bring up one of the exact best business long hairstyles, Trav! I rock the middle part low-ball in back, too! I do it with a couple of ringlets left out in the front. Everyone tends to complement that style the most and they tell me that it looks exceptionally dapper, when compared to most other styles.

Brock, you look good with shorter hair, but much better with longer hair. Shorter hair is a cap on top of your head. Longer hair is a luxurious mane that frames and features your face. Trav, thank you. I shampoo daily, but always with conditioner. Wear it and enjoy it.

I cut my hair every two years. It grows about 14" - 16" in those two years. That awkward stage is hard and the hardest stage of taking care of it. I'm just now getting ready to shave it off now. This is the 10th time I'm going through the process so I'm ready for the awkward stage again.

When I started growing my hair & bangs out I wore headbands to keep the hair out of my eyes but now my hair stays out of my face unless I go out on a windy day then I wear a ponytail because I hate my hair blowing in my face.
My hair type is a curly/wavy hair & it’s natural.
When I wash my hair I put the shampoo on my hands & rub my hands together with the shampoo & only massage the scalp & then rub the shampoo down to the tips & then I rub conditioner in my hands like shampoo but I don’t massage conditioner in my scalp so I just rub the conditioner on the lengths of my hair & let the conditioner sit in my hair while I wash my body & then when it’s done I rinse my hair along with my body & when I’m done showing I wring out my hair or lightly towel dry without scrubbing my hair too hard with the towel because that is so bad for the hair & it can cause tangles which can cause hair to break & split & sometimes when I notice my hair dry out from weather I rub oil that is made only for hair my favorite hair oil is coconut oil.
Btw I wash my hair every other day & I condition my hair everyday & my hair is the healthiest it’s ever been & when I sleep at night I pull my hair up & place it over my pillow & headboard of my bed & I never wake up with messy tangled hair ever since I did my research on growing hair healthy.
I also take biotin vitamins everyday which also promotes healthy hair growth so my hair is healthy from the inside to the outside.

I guess one question I have is in regards to what do you do with the chicken fuzz or fine hairs at the nape of your neck? My hair gets wavy at the ends on the sides and back as it’s growing out and the poofy chicken hairs hold that out. Do the fine chicken hairs at the nape of the neck get trimmed out or do you let those grow as well?

My hair is about to my mouth in the front and back of my neck in the back. It’s pretty awkward 😂 I look shaggy asf! My go to is after a shower blow dry/comb it, then pull it back and put a beanie or cap on. It helps get it out of my eyes, I just have really thick hair

Bro WTH you looked like you was mid 20s with your long hair. Short hair makes you look like a dad about to have a mid life crises.

How I dealt with the awkward stage: extensions, protective styles. I have EXTREMELY textured hair. I currently have long box braids and my hair will be in braids till I am comfortable with my natural hair length

My issue is the back of my neck. When my hair grows out it starts to look like I'm growing a mullet and I hate mullets. Do I at least cut that part off or continue to let that grow out?

Yes. A barber will shape it. That’s normal…

I’m 62,my hair is just now touching my shoulders. Nice but it looks like I’m growing wire instead of hair. I’ve used leave in conditioner, oil sprays and a few others. No effect. Any hope or should I just cut it off..? Oh , I take vitamin A everyday and mostly eat vegan. Any information would be helpful and appreciated.

my hair is almost down to shoulders i trimmed it a bit just now i love long hair i like the look but its a pain in the @ss to dry it completely after a shower it can get a little messy at times sometimes i will put it in a ponytail but dont like to much cause it shows my minorish acne scars also it can pick up an odor not sure why i shower everyday and try to rub in hair product but to me its worth it i dont like how i look in short hair
