@chrispy5249 It's kinda surprising to read that in 2023. Some pre-downpour players already consider it to have happened. The community getting too big and worsening as a result, I mean. But while there's definitely more people, and it's not as good as it used to be, I do agree with you.
Rain World is definitely popular on the internet nowadays. Theres a massive amount of content being made for it daily now, both mods and videos. I remember when Rain World UA-cam was just turtle toad and like a few other people. I remember when there would be just a couple dozen people playing it online at any one time, and the discord had like 2,000 members (now closer to 46,000).
rain world, especially if you include downpour, is genuinely one of the greatest games i have ever played and none of my friends will get it because it's too difficult :(
For me the hardest thing is the fact that you can't immediately see what's going on. This is especially demotivating for the beginner, since they don't know how all the textures they are putting are gonna look like. Furthermore, when i tried using level editor, i found no guides what to actually do with the files, or how to make the connection.
Kaeporo made a guide with the basics a while ago, 1.9 unfortunely changed the file format but the easiest way to learn is to check what the DLC does for its regions since its the exact same method, then add custom regions support to make it work better
I tried using the Level Editor without proper tutorial and I couldn't figure out how to do anything. This video made me realize just how much effort goes into designing these rooms (even more for an entire region), and how complex the Level Editor is. Maybe I'll try tempering with the Level Editor again.
Pretty interesting. Made me think about the RW rooms being created and the process they might've gone through. You also made it seems very easy! Are there any tips you could give us? Maybe controls and such?
all the controls are displayed in the corners, they are easy to miss but you shouldnt ignore then. G and F when tiling are mandatory keys to learn how to use
for example, an easy tip is to not switch too often from the tile editor to the geometry after any small geometry change. By holding G you can create necessary geometry, this means you can create Air and Ground by using a random tile you have arround, pressing q copies a tile and puts it in your hand which lets you also travel faster between the libraries metal-grates-vents-misc-skyislands-machines-pipes are the tiles you will be using more often so knowing their order from left to right helps you find what you look for faster
Its absolutely mental how much detail and effort are cramed into all kinds of rooms, and how easy it is to just glance past it all because of the constant dangers and strict time limits in the cycle. Great stuff!
The way this world was created has a perfect combination of cleverness and hardness , you learn where to go the moment you venture out the wild , very hard at first but once you finish it you'll get a hang of it

-rooms are contained in the XX_rooms folder -rooms are managed in the world_XX text file to determine the room connections counting entrances from top left to right.
