You handled it the right way. There aren’t many ways to handle it, and everyone reacts differently and they won’t always react the right way. People like that react because they don’t want to accept it and are in denial. They don’t want to believe it, you can’t make people react the right way. You were right and at least if she catches him she can’t say you didn’t warn her. She dealt with it immaturely because she was insecure and in denial. You did the right thing.
I think you should always be honest, what people decide to do with the information given to them is on them. But at least you know that you were honest & had good intentions.
